So far, the protests at Fond Du Lac and 35th have been peaceful.

Other news: shots reported at JFK Airport in New York. Breaking news now.

Updated: No shots. Terminal evacuated (out of caution?), but no shots.

Going back to Milwaukee...

Milwaukee man shot by police seen with gun in body camera footage, officials say

Sylville K. Smith, 23, was identified Sunday as the subject of a Saturday afternoon traffic stop that turned deadly when Smith allegedly ran from officers and then turned toward one with a gun in his hand.

Both Smith and the unidentified officer who shot him are black, Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn said.

“The individual did turn toward the officer with a firearm in his hand,” said Flynn, later adding that Smith “was raising up with” the gun.

Flynn said he had viewed the body camera footage, which had not yet been released to the public. The entire incident lasted 20-25 seconds in Flynn’s estimation.

Police officers could be seen on the footage administering CPR to Smith, who was hit in his chest and arm, Flynn said.

I wondered about the loss of jobs in Milwaukee. What did they have besides breweries. I think Milwaukee is like Detroit and south Los Angeles. Loss of good paying jobs and nothing to replace them. Milwaukee had good jobs.

The US has to invest in replacing jobs. Solar ? Replacing bridges. Making buildings energy efficient. Lots of things to do.

From the article

journalism-career images of Milwaukee’s manufacturing heritage — and the losses suffered in the early-1980s recession — was an assignment covering a job-application event at Wisconsin State Fair Park for 200 positions at the old A.O. Smith plant on Milwaukee’s north side.

I held a temporary position as a general assignment reporter for The Milwaukee Journal (yes it was a long time ago) and my task was to interview some of the applicants. Normally, this wouldn’t be news, but the first day A.O. Smith began taking applications an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 people showed up. The day I was there, my recollection was that there were another 5,000 or so, which made for a target-rich interviewing environment.

I'm pretty sure this is tonight - live. I watched the prayer service earlier on this same channel.

The crowd looks to mostly young people. Teenagers to early twenties. Well dressed and well-shod teenagers, by the way. And there sure seem to be some rabble rousers around and about.

The teenagers need to be home at this hour. Even though this is probably the most exciting thing that has happened in their lives in a long time. So much restless energy - you can feel it almost oozing off the screen!

Police may want to consider instituting a curfew going forward. Curfews for teenagers are not unknown and they've been instituted for far less than this type of a situation. The kids don't like curfews, of course, but parents are often grateful for them because it lets them out of being the bad guy.
