hoping that today brings calm not more violence and destruction of property in the name of peace and justice by some.
For those not familiar with the Watts riot, Milwaukee is like a picnic. It is so easy to say as a white person that there are no issues. As Paul Wellstone said, " We all do better when we all do better."

Watts has changed demographically. It used to be 70% black. Now it is 70% Hispanic.
California Counts: Demographics changing in Watts, but challenges familiar
"Since then, Watts — a historically black community of roughly two square miles and home to about 40,000 residents — has grown more multiracial. About 70 percent of the people here are Latino, 28 percent are black or African American, and 2 percent are from other ethnic groups, according to 2013 population data gathered by the Watts Community Studio, a planning project sponsored by Los Angeles Councilman Joe Buscaino."

So you cannot compare it to the troubles going on in Milwaukee at this time, in my opinion. Culturally, it is a different dynamic between cops and Hispanic families.
I am comparing it to the Watts riot of the 60's
Good thing they already have the National Guard lined up. A curfew would be a good idea as well. One of the Live Streams I watched, of the memorial-----the spokesman for the family is asking for EVERYONE to meet up on Tuesday. They are bussing in people, from Revcom, BLM, New BP, Nation Of Islam, to all 'come together' and have one large massive protest and put forth their demands.![]()
It might be a big problem.
Even our extremely liberal mayor says that the still shows a gun. I tend to believe it to be true then. They still should release the footage ASAP.
Flynn cautioned that the shooting was still under investigation and authorities were awaiting autopsy results, but said that, based on the silent video from the unidentified officer's body camera, the officer "certainly appeared to be within lawful bounds."

lynn declined to identify the officer who shot Smith but said he is black. The police chief said he wasn't sure what prompted the stop but described Smith's car as "behaving suspiciously."
After watching the officer's body camera footage, Flynn said the entire episode took about 25 seconds, from the start of the traffic stop until shots were fired. He said Smith ran "a few dozen feet" and turned toward the officer while holding a gun.
"It was in his hand. He was raising up with it," the chief said. He said the officer had told Smith to drop the gun and he did not do so. It was unclear how many rounds the officer fired. Smith was hit in the chest and arm, Flynn said.
So I guess there was so many rounds fired that he couldn’t even count them all on the video. “Behaving suspiciously” = Driving While Black. The video must be bad for the cop, or they would release it.

How can it be stated that blacks males are targeted for traffic stops, and then stated that they don't have cars to drive to jobs?? Am I missing something?
It just seems some think we shouldn't expect any more from the rioters because they are black, can't get jobs, oppressed, low income, or whatever. Isn't that rather demeaning? We do in fact have a black president , black police officers, black business owners, etc. I'm trying to understand the line of thinking but just don't.

Yes, I did post the article that showed some blacks. But, Latinos are second in being killed by police. That does not sound positive, does it?Right. But I thought you were pointing out how 'much better' things were now in Watts. And talked about families and cops playing ball together, etc. And I am just saying that it is not the same demographics, which is one reason it is easier for community policing there now.
My opinion on this is that it is not really a race issue. It is a class/poverty issue. It just so happens that in many parts of America it seems to be minorities that make up a large portion of the lower class. The question is why? That is where the frustration comes from....
I think we can all agree that in western society, especially America, the rich keep getting richer, driving a bigger and bigger wedge between classes. That is why the poorest of us all feel "oppressed". Socialism is not going to fix the problem. People do not need hand outs, they are all fully capable of taking care of themselves but they do need an even playing field and for that to happen the rich need to stop making each other richer at the expense of the poor.
