WI - Sylville Smith, 23, fatally shot by Milwaukee PD officer, 13 Aug 2016 *Arrest*

Perhaps counting shots on a silent video was a little difficult.

'Flynn cautioned that the shooting was still under investigation and authorities were awaiting autopsy results, but said that, based on the silent video from the unidentified officer's body camera, the officer "certainly appeared to be within lawful bounds.

Yet, he knows from the silent video, that the suspect was told to drop his gun? That doesn’t make any sense. The official version of the story is already falling apart, and they haven’t even released much information. They obviously are being selective in what information they are releasing. Determining how many rounds were fired is easy. They just count how many rounds were missing from all the guns at the scene. They know how many rounds the suspect had in his gun, but they can’t count how many the cop had?

Again, the video must look bad for the cop, or they would have already released it. They are just stalling now.

Sister of #SylvilleSmith in exclusive interview: being black is a risk every day.If he was armed, it was for defense

The interview with Smith's sister has much to unpack. Swayed between encouraging community building and expressing deep mistrust. #Milwaukee

Smith's sister made clear she will not accept the official account, not even the video when it's released.

I realize a family member doesn't want to think one of those own family members can be criminal but when they deny evidence that is presented to them they will never recover. IMO the sister is the type that could witness her brother killing someone in cold blood and find an excuse for why he did it. She says that she will not believe the video no matter what it shows has lost my interest of anything more she might say. The father seems to know the truth of who his son is. He seems to blame himself for not being there for his son. That I have heard, he has not blamed law enforcement for his son's death. He says the glorifying of guns is what lead to this.

Hmmm. Ever notice that rioting almost never happens during daylight hours?

Rioters must all be vampires, lol! Guess they need their beauty sleep after all that brick throwing, shouting, arson, vandalism, and property destruction. Gotta keep those "rock star" hours-- up all night, sleep all day. Rally the other criminals on social media. Etc.

Doubt that many of them have a legitimate "day job".

Mayor announces curfew for teens, 4 police officers and 4 county deputies injured during #MilwaukeeUnrest overnight

http://www.jsonline.com/story/news/local/milwaukee/2016/08/15/mayor-announces-curfew-teens/88763360/

Sherman Park, located at 3000 N. Sherman Blvd., will also be closed to the public starting at 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. and will continue until further notice, due to an order from Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr., according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

How will they be able to know the age of teens? I cannot remember the plàce, but someplace a court denied the requirement to show id's to vote because they said it discriminates as many blacks don't have id’s, so how are they going to know if the person is over the age for the curfew?

And for that I have the utmost respect for his truthfulness on this. jmo idk

I agree they should release the video as soon as they possibly can but it's been less than 48 hours since the incident happened. I really don't think counting the bullets in the cops gun would be an accurate way to determine how many times he shot at SS. Isn't it better to wait and get the facts straight? Geez KaaBoom, hang on---it'll all come out sooner than later.

There are areas in the city and most others that I have seen, Usually in open parking lots were men (usually) will gather and contractors will pick them up and take them to job sites, (day labor) to work for the day or two or three depending on how long it takes to finish the job. This I know because I knew a construction company that picked them up and dropped them off, this was 10-12 years ago and he was paying $100.00 day. Jobs are there if they want to work. jmo idk

The Wisconsin Department of Justice is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting — a step that is required under state law every time a suspect dies at the hands of officers or in official custody.

snip

Even if a decision is made to release a video, it can still take time to do so under the state’s open records law because DOJ officials will still evaluate whether they need to be redacted to protect confidential information.

So it isn't MPD.

It is logical for them not to release the video until the interview of witnesses and law enforcement are complete. If they release the video before finishing up the interviews of witnesses and law enforcement it puts into question if the person is telling what they witnessed or are they answering questions on what they saw on the video. In one of the pressers the chief said the soonest a body cam video has ever been released was one week later and it was Chicago that released it. They are well within that time frame still.
As of yesterday the officer had not been interviewed yet. Just like all of us he has a right to councel during an interview. It takes time. IMO

But they did count how many bullets were in the suspect’s gun, right away. They did report the suspect's criminal record, right away. Why is it important to wait to get the facts straight before they report on what the cop was doing, but they can report everything about the suspect within a few minutes? They are being selective. Releasing all the information about the suspect immediately, and holding back the video, does not help, and doesn’t look good for the police.

I can guarantee you, if they thought releasing the video would help their case, they would have already released it.

Since some people think the blacks are lazy welfare cheats who bring trouble upon themselves, why do they bother to comment on life in the ghetto? Some want the rioters shot like animals.

I imagine the people commenting like that will never go to the ghetto. So why waste energy commenting and watching? It has no impact on most people's lives. The killings in Chicago do not affect the commentators. And commentators do not feel ths the lives are worth anything

Are you referring to commentators here at WS? I hope not.

bbm Who said that?

bbm, Did this happen in the ghetto? Or did SS get shot in the ghetto?

bbm, Why would they?

bbm, Chicago?

Two questions

Where have I heard the name Gov. Scott Walker from before? Has he been involved in any recent national media cases or stories?

Is it common for a Body Cam to not have audio or are they saying there was a defect of some sort?
