I'll be listening to the scanners tonight and hiding. My plans to go out of town were thwarted.
March 16, 2011: Mark your calendar. On March 19th, a full Moon of rare size and beauty will rise in the east at sunset. It's a super "perigee moon"--the biggest in almost 20 years.
"The last full Moon so big and close to Earth occurred in March of 1993," says Geoff Chester of the US Naval Observatory in Washington DC. "I'd say it's worth a look."
Full Moons vary in size because of the oval shape of the Moon's orbit. It is an ellipse with one side (perigee) about 50,000 km closer to Earth than the other (apogee): diagram. Nearby perigee moons are about 14% bigger and 30% brighter than lesser moons that occur on the apogee side of the Moon's orbit

In Atlanta GA we had a BLIZZARD March 11 1993... thunder lightning the works!
hmm... I do wonder...
Of course it's a fact. Ask any bartender.lol, my mom worked in a psych facility many years ago. She says this old myth is NOT a myth but a fact.
There would be a marked and very trackable increase in incidents during full moons.
After that she spent a number of years working at a general hospital, there were always more bizzare cases during full moons and the number of cases overall seen in the ER were always higher during full moons.
It's rising here and looks very cool, there is a thin layer of clouds creating a spooky effect. Yes I howled at it, lol.
Soo it had been cloudy this evening as we BBQ'd burgers on the grille at 7:30 tonight and I thought, "self" we might not see this big supermoon tonight.
Darkness fell at 7:45 or so and at 8:30, I looked out the sliding glass door toward the east. Low and behold there was a brightly glowing object in the sky. I thought wow, I've never seen a moon so bright, I was awestruck.
So okkk, I suppose the condo association put a globe nightlight in the open yard and I've missed it the whole last year. Still the bright glowing nightlight put me in awe of the Supermoon for about 10 minutes.
Sign me,
Mooned by the condo association :floorlaugh:
