Winter Storm Nemo: Nor'easter Looms

Really picking up here now.

Checked my boxes for the stray cat, no sign he has been here yet, and no little paw prints. I hope he has found a warm safe place :( going to go clear a little snow in a bit, and make sure he has a path if he comes by.

Haven't seen PML in a bit - you still have power down in CT? Maybe she is just having some dinner and blizzard beer? :)

Moe I hope your family is faring well over on the coast!

No, I'm a box o'wine kinda gal, lol...here with power and ears on lol...

Hi All, Winds are picking up in CT. It has been snowing steady since about 7am. The snow is coming down heavy now. I really hope we don't lose power. Gardenlady, my DH went outside to see if he should bring out the snow blower. He came in real quick. The snow is blowing around all on it's own. Trying to get rid of it now would be futile. Tomorrow will be here soon enough. We are just worried there will be to much snow for the snow blower to handle. Original plan was that daughters boyfriend was going to bring a plow home from work and he would plow us out in the AM. Well, he couldn't bring it home...so we wait and see what the night skies dump on us. Stay safe everyone.

My oldest son went out with his friend to go to a local bar (walking). I didn't really think much about it but, now that I am thinking about it, I'm kind of nervous. He's pretty level headed but it could be a tough walk home (I'm guessing it's almost two miles) and the weather is supposed to get much worse. Ugh! He really wasn't planning to go anywhere, and laughed about his friend wanting to go, but then he obviously convinced him. :(

I have family and friends in southwest Nova, been checking their FB pages a lot tonight, so far most is quiet there weather wise. One to two meter swells off shore predicted for tonight and tomorrow. :please:

I just looked outside. I will not go outside but it looks like we have about 8-10 inches of snow. Snow is accumulating on the outside window sills and I am sure the outside doorways will be or already are blocked. News just came on and it showed a few towns away there is 9.5 inches, so my estimates were pretty accurate. News also said this won't end til early Saturday afternoon. Yikes

In southeastern Michigan we just got 5.5 inches of snow. Even so, it was enough to close all schools in the county, including colleges, and my daughter's work was closed. My son came over with his snowblower and cleared our driveway. In the afternoon, my husband made it to the store okay to buy kitty litter that we ran out of. I stocked up on everything else the day before but forget to get kitty litter (and we have 8 cats). I haven't seen much traffic on our street today and our street hasn't been plowed yet. I believe the main roads have been salted and/or plowed.

I know we are pretty close together, geographically, and they got to most of the main roads. We had to go out and help my mom out this evening, and most of the main roads were plowed. Almost none of the side roads are done. Mine is never plowed, no matter how much we get. The road commission has forgotten we are here, LOL. It was odd with everything being so deadly quiet last night, I can't even begin to imagine how strange it must seem in the areas that are getting the wind and the snow. At least we didn't have that much wind.

BTW, if you need anything, don't hesitate to ask. I've got four wheel drive and a fearless husband. And I promise I'm not weird, just helpful, LOL.

Geez, there is 2 feet of snow on our deck and it is still snowing like crazy here. I can not even see the house across the street.

This is one of DH's work trucks - they repair railroad cars, it has a generator, hydraulic jacks, etc. Not a regular truck, lol...

And, praise God, we still have power :)

Yeah...my indoor cats just woke me for breakfast (gee, thanks guys), and I jumped up fast to get some coffee brewed because I'm pretty shocked we have power and do not know how long it will last lol. Looked outside, we have at least 20" with some drifts that are higher, and the snow is pouring down pretty good still.

Checking FB, I see pretty much all my family down in Fall River area (SE Mass) and cape have lost power... I think they are getting the worst of the winds along the coast.

Some towns, especially along the I-91 corridor, had accumulated more than three feet by 2 a.m. Saturday, Furey said. Most of the state had at least 18 inches of snow, he said, with drifts between four and seven feet.

Wolcott and Middlebury had 30 inches of snow by 2 a.m., he said, and there were 29 inches in Middletown, 26 in Hamden and 25 in Southington. Many towns in the central part of the state were "up and over 2 feet and counting," Furey said.

"Snowfall totals from this storm in some Connecticut towns have exceeded the normal snowfall for an entire winter," Furey said.
