Savita death leads to call for clearer NI abortion law Professor Jim Dornan called for clearer guidance in NI

My problem is they have known this since at least 1992. In the case of Miss X, then 14, who was raped by her neighbor. She was court-ordered not to leave Ireland to obtain an abortion in England (up to 4,000 abortions are performed in England annually on Irish women). She appealed to the Supreme Court who overturned the lower courts decision citing Miss X's suicidal ideations as an overwhelming factor in allowing her to pursue a termination.

Politicians to date have refused to legislate for this ruling. It is beyond infuriating.

Just as a head's up there is an extremely similar law making its way through the Ohio State Legislature known as the fetal heartbeat bill which would have the same effect as Ireland's law does - again, there are no exceptions provided for rape, incest or life of the mother.

Sadly it seems that the Supreme Court is moot at times when individual states and even Congress keep seeking ways of circumventing prior rulings.

My theory is that it's a larger conspiracy to create fodder for the wars, force people to bear future warriors who will have such disenfranchised childhoods that they look at military service at the age of 17 as a relief from hunger, poverty, and domestic violence, finally a way to be housed and fed at the mere price of laying their lives on the line.

I came to that conclusion years ago after observing that the very people (term used lightly) who oppose abortion under ANY circumstances are also the people that would take away free or reduced price lunches from the children for whom that is the ONLY meal they get, ever, deny them housing assistance, health care, or food stamps and generally showed EXTREME disdain for the very children they had INSISTED be brought into this world. Oh, and also disdain for the PARENTS who could have bettered their lives and livelihoods had they not been forced to have children before they were able to care for them, or often themselves for that matter.

Grrrrr, don't get me started.

Don't bother refuting these subhumans aren't out there in huge numbers; I knew them personally and professionally in my days in clinical social work, operating an emergency shelter for children, and teaching 'at-risk' populations.

I have far more respect for Ireland than I do for the pro life movement here in the USA, where I reside. At least they're consistent.

IMO it's cases like this that points out the absurdity and bolsters my own pro choice stance.

Nor should there be ....any exceptions for rape, incest or life of the mother. A fetus is either a person with rights or its not.

If a child and an adult are trapped in a cave with very little food, no one would argue the adult can kill the child as to not share the food and live longer. IMO it's the same thing. It's either "all in" or not.

IMO a fetus is a person when it can be viable outside and apart from its host....I mean mother.

This has turned into an abortion rights debate, which for obvious reasons, we do not encourage on Websleuths.

This thread is closing now.
