Women, 2 dogs found after 5 months drifting in Pacific

In a bizarre turn to the interview, Appel pulled out a GPS device she said they used on their journey. “Garmin makes a great product,” she said, smiling. She also eagerly interrupted Lauer when he mentioned they used a water purifier on their trip, interjecting with the name of the brand – Katadyn.

Ted Gartner, the Director of Corporate Communications at Garmin International, told TIME: “Garmin only found out about their Today show interview after it aired. To my knowledge, we have not had any contact with either woman, nor have we compensated either of them in any way.”

Katadyn could not be immediately reached for comment.

I'm sure Garmin wants nothing to do with this "fish story." She had a GPS???? And they were "lost" at sea???

Aaah, so it wasn't until the Taiwanese ship arrived that they felt they were in danger:

They said it wasn't until they were in the hands of their supposed rescuers on the Taiwanese fishing vessel that they actually felt their lives were in danger. "We were never 'lost at sea.' We knew where we were the entire time," Appel said. "While the media portrayed a rescue with the Taiwanese fishing vessel, they were actually the reason why we called for help."

Instead of obeying standard regulations for the distance a vessel is supposed to keep while towing a boat, the Taiwanese vessel purposely rammed against them, she said, overpowering their significantly smaller boat. "The Taiwanese fishing vessel was not planning to rescue us," she continued. "They tried to kill us during the night."

It was then that Appel said she decided to alert the U.S. Coast Guard. But she claimed there was an explanation for why she still didn’t use the EPIRB and instead used the satellite phone on the fishing vessel.

“I was able to get on a surfboard and get on their boat, make an actual phone call. Because no one spoke English, it was easier and safer for me to relay the information to the U.S. Coast Guard-Guam sector that we were in danger without them realizing what we were saying. If I had thrown the EPIRB at that point, he [the captain] would have known.”

Appel said that she never doubted they would eventually get to dry land, even if the fishing vessel hadn't towed them.

"We were going to run into land somewhere," she said.

WTH??

Where are the dogs, that is my only question. Are they safe? Or are they off on their own branding adventure as well, ready to star in dog food commercials and tout the benefits of diamond studded collars?

She's delusional if she thinks she's going to get these companies to sponsor their next "voyage".

I think they should be billed by the Coast Guard for any expenses they put out for them.

This is really upsetting to read and listen to the shady details they describe. Not only do they exaggerate everything they flat out lie apparently. Like the part about the "shark attacks". They werent attacked at all. Fish of all kinds may approach a boat hoping for scraps or chum to be thrown overboard or they were just being curious. From this part of the article it appears the sharks never even touched their boat.

"“The sharks were six inches away,” Appel said during a Wednesday interview with Matt Lauer.

And I saw one video of one of them saying they would have been dead in 24 hours if not rescued. But then we read that they had a years supply of oatmeal and rice and stuff. So how would they have died in 24 hours?

I hope they somehow end up learning a lesson not to try to manipulate people and not try to make a fake story out of something that can be deadly serious.

I have a bad feeling that we have not heard the last from these two. The way they are having a grand ole time on the Today Show they seem to be enjoying the limelight a little too much. And then they talk about sailing next year already and building a boat for it. Good Grief. Please just go home and stay on dry land you two.

"She announced plans to build an “unsinkable and unbreakable boat” for the new voyage."

They absolutely should be billed and apologize to the people on the Taiwanese fishing vessel for accusing them of purposely ramming their boat and intending to kill them during the night (insert eyeroll here). The part where they say they would've been dead in 24 hours (while still not activating the emergency beacon) was referencing the Taiwanese fishing vessel.

Oh, o.k. So... the Taiwanese boat tried to KILL them, now ?
*Sarcasm*

What a slap in the face to people who were most likely trying to HELP them.
Unreal.

RS & BBM

I know that it's easy to brainstorm solutions from behind a keyboard, and I wasn't there, but. . .
Could they have untied their tow rope during the night, drifted away and then tossed the EPIRB?
Not to mention, I would be very hesitant to board a vessel with a murderous crew. A lot could have happened in the time between boarding the fishing boat and getting the Coast Guard on the phone.

The way she was so dilusional about the sharks talking to them and them not going into a port because their boat may have exceeded the recommended size so they stay out in a dangerous seas I think we know what happened here.

She didnt understand what they were saying and automatically assumed the people would do them harm when they were likely just trying to rescue them.

So their tow rope was a little short and their boats touched. Big deal lady.
I am positive they would not have let you board their vessel and make a phone call if they were out to hurt you.

She is totally dillusional and needs to be checked out by a head doctor.

But the thing that gets me is that she believes they are trying to kill them so she hops on her surfboard and climbs up the fishing vessel and makes the phone call?

WTH!

I would love to hear from the vessel.

Gawd.. that shark tale, with the sharks trying to "tell" them, You're in our living room and you’re not leaving fast enough. But Jennifer & Tasha didn’t realize what they were being told until it was too late. Wowza.

Then this business of the Taiwanese fishing crew trying to kill them! But brave, heroic Jennifer gets on a surfboard, paddles to their boat, climbs aboard and asks the murderous crew (politely I hope) if she could use their phone. Wowza.

I now think that Jennifer is actually nuts. And Tasha is just a laid back young woman who is going along for the ride, not saying much other than the usual 'yeah it was really something' ...

Jennifer initially claimed that the Taiwanese crew was kind and gracious. Hear her own words in the video below, starting at 8:52.

EXCLUSIVE: Truth about the bungling yachtswomen 'lost at sea for five months' - one was crash-prone 'kinky sailor' who paid for trip by working as a dominatrix - and the other had never sailed at all (and now they're planning to write a book)

Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...an-kinky-sailor-dominatrix.html#ixzz4xxriPchF

Oh geez, those pictures of her on The Daily Mail!! AAGGHH!!

Appel also penned her first novel, The Original Niagara Falls Angel Falls: The Nephilim Stories Part One, in 2005 – re-released in a 'revised' edition in 2011. Written under the name LJ Leppa - her last name and initials written backwards - she described it as a distillation of her online dating experiences and her quest to 'find a possible mate or at least a person who would want to have fun sharing time well-spent together'.

I found the novel on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Original-Niagara-Falls-Nephilim-Stories-ebook/dp/B004ASN8I4

Imagine the outrage if this was two taiwanese girls accusing U.S. sailors of trying to kill them in the night.
