I never mastered the formula for calculating rates of descent, but from 24 stories, I'm guessing that lawyer had enough time to think, "That wasn't such a good idea!"

It works out to around four seconds which reminds of the sleater-kinney song 'jumpers':

If they wait, the window can be repaired and then how would they prove that it was defective???

I don't see any reason for a wait, either, but regarding repair:

This would have been investigated as a possible crime scene so glass, hardware, plaster etc samples would have been collected, and everything photo'd.

Even if it weren't a possible crime scene, all that would be gathered for insurance--or lawsuit--reasons.

Maybe I'll win a Darwin Award for my utter inability to remember that formula. My SIL is an engineer and has explained it more than once.
