Officers with the McDowell County Sheriff's Office are actively searching for a missing man.

The man, Billy Joe Baker, 46, of War, W. Va., has reportedly been missing since May 31. Baker's last known location is in War, according to a release from McDowell County Chief Deputy, J.E. Muncy.


Baker is described in the release as standing at 5' 10", weighing 245 pounds, brown eyes, with black hair, according to the release.

Those with information on Baker's location are encouraged to contact the McDowell
County Sheriff's Office at 304-436-8523, or call 911.

Police can not confirm that body found in McDowell is missing man

The body was found around 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Warriormine area of War, McDowell County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy James E. Muncy Jr. said.

Billy Joe Baker, 46, of War, has been missing since May 31.

Despite public speculation on social media, Muncy said it could not be confirmed that the body is Baker.
