Found Deceased WV - Bryn Hargreaves, 36, former UK pro rugby player, Cheat Lake, approx 2 Jan 2022

Updates on the Missing in West Virginia Facebook page have said there have been 3 reliable sightings in the Vienna, WV area. The post is updated by a family friend but his mom also comments. Vienna is 2 hours from Morgantown, WV where he was living. His mother has been in the Vienna area searching for him. His mother and I think a brother traveled from the UK awhile back to search for him. Without a phone to check social media they say Bryn may be oblivious to the fact his family is here trying to help him. I never hear about any homeless encampments in Vienna but nearby Parkersburg has some. But I don’t feel like our area is doing enough to make the public aware that Bryn might be in our area. I wouldn’t have known if I didn’t see updates on the Missing in WV Facebook page. I haven’t seen any postings on the Vienna Police Dept Facebook page.

That's an interesting detail about the shower:
"He said police were called to Bryn's apartment building as there was water leaking into an apartment below.
They found Bryn's apartment unlocked, but all of his belongings were there and his shower was still running."

Gareth Hargreaves
A private investigator has begun the search for missing ex-rugby league player Bryn Hargreaves in the United States amid fears from his family that potential criminality could be behind his mysterious disappearance.

Hargreaves, 36, was reported missing more than five months ago by his employer after he failed to arrive for work and that sparked a major search by police and tracker dogs in West Virginia.

Repeated attempts to track him down drew a blank, however, and his family have set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for a private detective to take on the role.

“The police over there aren’t doing anything.” Bryn’s older brother Gareth, 38, said. “There are a few things that have come to light that need to be investigated that haven’t been previously. The only way we can make that happen is through a private investigator. There’s possible leads and motives that could lead to criminal outcomes.”

The PA news agency has contacted the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office for comment.

Hargreaves, who played in Super League for Wigan, St Helens and Bradford before moving to the States to work in the oil and gas industry 10 years ago, vanished without trace from his apartment on 3 January and Gareth believes he may have been abducted.

“Bryn had mental health issues and was in severe pain with his back from a car accident in December,” Gareth said. “He’d also been away from his family at Christmas. The most likely scenarios were that he decided to harm himself or had decided to disappear for a bit and come back.
But five months on, those two possibilities look less likely because you’ve got to think a body would turn up. We had his bank account investigated by the police which showed there’s no withdrawals and his wallet and his ID and passport are all still in his apartment so he had no means of access to his cash and no ID to travel.

So you start to think of the other possibility, that he didn’t plan to go missing and that someone has had some input, through abduction or something along those lines. You start to think of all the weird things at the time which start to add up.

An interesting read
Noting:

One said: “There’s just no way I could see he’d ever do anything to harm himself. As soon as the news emerged that Bryn had vanished, I immediately thought of those capable of causing him harm. Many of us know them.

“In the industry we work in, it’s run like the Mob. Not just pipes but concrete boots are a trade tool if someone stands in the way of the wrong guys. Bryn didn’t allow anyone to cut corners, which may have upset some. I have a strong opinion over who that may be.”

The man went on to name several individuals he believed could possibly have been involved.

A second friend poured scorn over the idea Bryn could have done himself harm.

[...]

“It [divorce] must have devastated him but there is no way he’d harm himself. It smacks of others’ involvement.”

[...]

A third friend of the rugby player said he would never accept Bryn would harm himself.

He said: “He was strong both physically and mentally. Of course, people suffer in silence, and Bryn may have, but I can’t believe he would do something to himself. I hope the police are looking further into his private life. There must be something in that.”

All three of Bryn’s friends spoke independently, unaware of what the others had said.

I believe a doctor was missing from this specific area, so this could be one of the two or someone else. My opinions.

“The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office said the remains were found in a wooded area between South Pierpont Road and the Hannalei Development near the lake.”

I have inside knowledge on this case and it's believed to be Bryn. I emailed about verification, but delete if necessary.

A man and woman were out in the woods around their house looking for shed antlers. They came upon skeletal remains off the back of their neighbor's property, called the cops, and texted the homeowners.
