Just terrible for Crystal, her Grandma, especially her children and the rest of her friends and family that loved her.I'm really critical of law enforcement a lot but I think they did a good job making sure things were done right.People in the area of course had their crazy theories about kidnappers in the middle of nowhere and then trafficking her down the river to the Atlantic to waiting boat but I think it was obvious where it was headed. It just so sad.

@johnbelt
Look forward to what you have to say.

Yes it seems they waited on his confession. The heat was on him to lead them to her body.
While he played the worried sick, mental breakdown.
Loosing his memory sad story breakdown.
While his own family went to bat for his innocence.
Yes I guess Murdering your wife, mother of your children could make you sick while you are scared the truth is just a knock away from LE exposing your murder of this beloved woman that you buried deep in the woods. Shame shame and shame. JMO He was not mental at the time. JMO He was angry jealous and evil.
He snapped or do you think premeditated?

The body was found in Kentuck WV, 20 miles north of Sissonville. Confusing that Crystal's last phone ping that night/morning near Mammoth WV, 20 miles south of Sissonville.

Pretty sure that LE knew the story from early on but didn't reveal anything. Couple other current cases where there is similar silence.

RIP Crystal.

ETA- I was never sure that Crystal made those last late night texts, which could change the timeline.
1000% agree

Here is a link to a local reporter's Facebook who was at the arraignment. Husband states she hit her head on a rock and stopped breathing after a 20 minute altercation.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WOWK) – The Kanawha County Sherriff’s Office says that James Kiser, 40, of Kenna, West Virginia, confessed to killing his missing wife, Crystal Dawn Kiser. James led detectives to the location of the shallow grave where deputies believe the body of Crystal is located. Crystal was last seen on Friday, August 9, 2019.

Deputies say on Thursday, September 5, 2019, James was interviewed and admitted to killing his wife, Crystal Dawn Kiser, during an argument at her grandmother’s house on Lessie Lane, near Sissonville, West Virginia, and taking her body to a remote location in Kentuck, West Virginia. There he buried her body in a shallow grave.

On Sunday, August 11, 2019, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office began asking for the public’s help to find Crystal. She lived in Jackson County but was staying at a relatives house in Sissonville when she was reported missing. The mother of two was house-sitting for her sick grandmother when she vanished.

Deputies say the investigation included reviewing several hundred hours of video from businesses and residences. Electronic records were also reviewed, and several hundred hours of interviews and searches were conducted.

On Friday, August 30, 2019, what would be Crystal’s 38th birthday, her family held a candlelight vigil in her honor. “She would never ever in a million years, not be in contact with her children. And on top of that, she would have never left her grandmother ill. There is just no way — no way — that she walked up and left,” said her cousin Kelly Boggess George on the night of the vigil.

Forensic investigators with the Kanawha Bureau of Investigations along with Investigators for the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office will be exhuming the body.

James Kiser has been charged with 1st-degree murder.

This combined effort involved the cooperation of the following agencies:

  • Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office
  • Kanawha Bureau of Investigations with emphasis to the Saint Albans Police Department and South Charleston Police Department
  • Jackson County Sheriff’s Office
  • WV K-9 Search and Rescue
  • Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit
  • WV Division of Forestry
  • Charleston Area Medical Center Security Department

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) — Kanawha County deputies said they believe the body of Crystal Dawn Kiser, a woman from Jackson County who has been missing nearly a month, has been located and her husband has been taken into custody in the case.

They believe the body of the 37-year-old Kiser was found in Jackson County, the sheriff’s office said Friday during a news conference.

Sheriff Mike Rutherford said Kiser’s husband has confessed to the crime and has been arrested. He was arraigned Friday afternoon.

The sheriff’s office got a report on Aug. 11 that Kiser was missing. During the investigation, detectives reviewed several hundred hours of video and spent several hundred hours scouring the roads and area in Jackson County where she was thought to have been.

Rutherford said on Thursday, Crystal’s husband, James Kiser, 40, of Kenna, was interviewed at the sheriff’s office and admitted to killing her during an argument while at her grandmother’s house on Lessie Lane near Sissonville. He told detectives he took her body to a remote location in Kentuck in Jackson County and buried her body in a shallow grave.

Shortly after the interview, James Kiser went with detectives and pointed out the grave where he said he buried her. Detectives are currently at the scene collecting evidence.

“The body has not positively been identified as her, however, we have full confidence that it is her due to his statements that were given to the detectives,” Rutherford said.

The sheriff said both families involved have cooperated during the investigation.

A criminal complaint said that James Kiser told Kanawha County deputies during an interview Thursday that he traveled to Lessie Lane on the morning of Aug. 10.

James Kiser said he “lost it” during a verbal and physical altercation between him and his wife that lasted about 20 minutes. He said he and his wife wrestled during the altercation. At first, he said his wife hit her head on something inside the home. Later in the interview, James Kiser said his wife hit her head on a rock outside the residence and stopped breathing, the complaint said.

After realizing he had killed her, Kiser said he became afraid and then loaded her body into a vehicle and took it to the remote location, the complaint said.

The following agencies were involved in the investigation: Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, Kanawha Bureau of Investigations, St. Albans Police Department, South Charleston Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, West Virginia K-9 Search and Rescue, West Virginia Division of Forestry and Charleston Area Medical Center Security Department.

“We are sad that it turned out this way but we’re glad that we’re able to bring a closure to her family and let them know where she is and that justice hopefully will be served,” Rutherford said.

The husband who was in the hospital with amnesia and didn’t remember being married to Crystal?

I must have missed this information being released. Where can I find it at?

Bowing my head.
Crystal's family has been through so so much.
Why just Why?
This is so horrible beyond belief.
I can now say the rumors were true on SM.
His family defended him, what a heartless coward.
My stomach aches on this one.
Your life was stolen.
Crystal I am so sorry. You were just there to honor and love and care for your grandmother.
Rest Easy soon. Justice is coming.
I pray they lay you to rest by your mama.
So sad for her daughter.
And the family member who always knew this monster took you away from them. Today is dimmer without you here.
Prayers for Grandmother and all.
May Justice be granted soon and MAX!!!!
Beautiful post, @Steph8angels. I wish I could like it 1000 times.

To be fair to his family- we see this often, and it is understandable in most cases. Who wants to believe their parent, sibling, grandparent, son, daughter, grandchild, cousin, etc would do such a thing? I am sure most, if not all of them, are horrified he did this- they are victims, too, in the sense that they believed in him, that he wouldn't do such a thing. That is devastating for a family of a murderer. It's embarrassing, and it follows them around, too, for the rest of their lives.

Thank you, your post always rings truth in these horrible ending outcomes.
I was so angry, as I too wanted to believe it was a stranger stalker at hospital and not the husband.
It breaks the heart of both familys. A double whammy of grief.
Thank you again @Steelslady

Her husband?!?!?! Oh my, for a bit we were all concerned about the creepy guy at the hospital.

I didn't see this one coming- did anyone else?
I’m a little surprised myself. In the missing mom and wife cases that first come to mind (like Watts), the guilty husband makes a dramatic plea for her return. And we didn’t see that here. But of course, this is a common, if not the most common scenario. I’m not sure why I felt like Crystal’s disappearance was the work of a stranger.

I hear you. I was wondering who the creepy guy at the hospital was- I remember something about LE was checking video to see if they could identify him. Wasn't her niece's phone stolen and then found, or do I have the wrong case? I just remember for a little bit the focus was on that guy at the hospital. I didn't follow this case on social media, so I had no idea anything was going on behind the scenes with the families.

I wonder if we will get to see the actual arrest warrant. I'd like to hear the whole amnesia and hospital story and why he had to go to where she was and confront her. I mean I guess I want to know they why. I know it's nosy of me but it's like I always tell people you never know what's going on behind closed doors of people that seem like they have the perfect life. RIP Crystal. Prayers for your children and family.

Did not see this one, figured LE had vetted husband and he was home trying to hold down the fort and looking after the kids. And I should know better ! DV is such an ugly thing, I try not to let personal experience taint my follow up in these cases. So terribly sorry he apparently took her life.

BBM - Nope but then again I don’t think many of us heard he had amnesia. I’m sure all our hinky meters would have started to twitch immediately had we heard that!

I really never considered anyone random having done this.Living in a holler in WV myself it isn't likely your going to meet with stranger danger. The majority of females murdered by someone close them is to big to ignore and usually until a stranger is a arrested I'm not surprised anymore.

Agree- I never saw any post pertaining to that, either. That sure would have raised my hinky meter up for sure!
