David Shoemaker, 37, was last seen in the Stealey area of Clarksburg at approximately 2 p.m. March 26. His sister last communicated with her brother on Facebook Messenger later that evening and he has not been heard from since. Shoemaker as approximately 6-foot-2, with broad shoulders, but an overall slender build.

Police: David Shoemaker's body found in West Fork River

CLARKSBURG — Local police have identified David Shoemaker as the deceased man pulled from the West Fork River near Glen Falls just over a week ago.

Shoemaker had been missing since March 26.

Police are unable at this point to determine Shoemaker's cause of death or how long he had been in the water before he was found on April 12, according to Clarksburg Police Detective William Dawson.

“We don’t have anything to go on right now. That will depend on what the autopsy says,” Dawson said.

The body was found by kayak during a river bank search by the Clarksburg Police Department and the Greater Harrison Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, Clarksburg Police Chief Robbie Hilliard has said.

Police and fire crews had been conducting searches along the riverbank since March 24, when a 911 call reported a man yelling for help from the river and firefighters reportedly attempted to pull a man from the water.

According to Dawson, police still believe there is a body in the river from that incident.
