GUILTY WV - Sheila 'Kathy' Goble, 62, Charleston, 24 April 2010

  • #21
He said deputies have found nothing wrong with the vehicle. It didn't appear to have had any mechanical problems and was not out of gas, he said.
"Everything about this investigation raises red flags because of what we understand from the family," Crosier said. "This is totally out of character for Kathy Goble. She rarely stayed away from her cell phone for any length of time. It is unusual for her not to call her family back."
Crosier said deputies found Goble's cell phone, which had been left at a friend's house.
While he would not name the friend ,he said, "We don't believe it was left intentionally."
Crosier also said Goble is believed to have been at a friend's house on Kenna Drive in South Charleston on Saturday evening. He would not say if that was where her cell phone was found.

That would be the Kanawha River. I-64 is not that busy late at night, but it sounds like her car was there by 4:30pm on Sunday. There have been a few crimes(robberies) recently in Southridge(where the Walmart is) but it doesn't sound like anything happened there if she made it to S. Chas.

Just a thought I had....I'm "assuming" LE started her car to observe no "mechanical" problems" or ran out of gas....HOPEFULLY it was taken away with a flat bed tow truck....but, sometimes a strange noise while driving....or rubbing sound or wheel shaking might have someone feel it neccessary to pull over and not drive any further. And, put the 'ol towel/tee shirt out the window.
One time I heard a high pitched rubbing noise while I was driving...just "assumed" (LOL) it would "drive itself out"....or just a brake pad rubbing....said I'd just drive and get it fixed when I finished what I was out doing. Welllll....continued "doing what I was doing"....driving down the highway and I found my wheel decided, shall we say, to "go off in a different direction"....the noise was my wheel bearings rubbing, which caused so much friction, it caused my tire to sever itself from my axle - or so I was told by the tow truck driver as he asked me "why didn't you pull over when you heard that "weird sound while you were goin' 60 mph"....LOL
Thank God no one was injured because of my ignorance and attitude....the moral of this story....I DO pull over and hang the towel out the window when my car makes "weird noises" while I'm driving.

This woman didn't have a cell to call for help....so, either tried walking to an exit (improbable)...or was "helped" by a so-called "Good Samaritan".

Another thought....I know it was said the woods around there were being searched....but, what if she DID decide to take to the highway to walk for help....got walking quite a ways away from her vehicle....people get distracted while driving...or worse yet, a drunk driver....sometimes go onto the shoulder of the road and could have hit her because it was so dark. Maybe they thought it was a deer they hit and kept on going??? Or, even the deplorable explaination, they CHOSE not to stop.....

..snipped..

Dogs trained to detect human scent as well as cadaver dogs from West Virginia K-9 Search and Rescue scoured the side of the road along I-64 in Putnam County where Kathy Goble's vehicle was found Monday evening.
The dogs did not detect anything.
Police say the longer the search goes on it become less likely there will be a positive outcome.
But Goble's family is clinging to hope.
"Her family can't sleep, they can't eat," said William Herrald, a friend of the family. "It is impossible for them to do anything but worry and wonder where their mother is." Kathy Goble's employer, Kelley's Men's Shop, is planning a candlelight vigil for this Friday at 6 pm in the store's parking lot.

I have just started following Sheila's disappearance. From what I understand her x-husband saw her Saturday night. Was that before or after she had visited her friend Fred. Also from what I read she was attached to her cell phone. My question is what was her cell phone doing out of her purse at Fred's house? And how could she have forgotten it? Was there any reason for her to be where her car was found. Wasn't it a long ways from her house? Has LE checked video cameras to see if they can locate the route she took and to see if she was alone? These are just a few thoughts.

I was wondering why the phone was left behind as well....sounds out of character for her.....made me wonder if the boyfriend is possibly being looked at?? And was her purse found??

Husband's visit was right after work, before Walmart and before Fred's.

David McCartney, Goble's ex-husband, said he saw her Saturday evening. She had worked her usual 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. shift at Kelley's, and came to his house to visit right after work.

Crosier said investigators also have recovered surveillance video footage of Goble at the South Charleston Walmart from Saturday night. The footage shows Goble purchasing items and leaving the store on her own. The items purchased at the store were found at the same South Charleston home her cell phone was found in, Crosier said. The home on Kenna Drive is a friend's, he said.

The earliest known sighting of Goble's vehicle on the interstate was about 9:45 a.m. Sunday, officers said.

Mark Morton, the manager at Kelley's, said Goble left the store about 5:10 p.m. Saturday after an uneventful day on the job.
"She was in a real good mood," Morton said. "It was just normal Kathy all day Saturday."
He said she could have been headed anywhere, as it was a Saturday night.
"She had a big network of friends," Morton said. "She's very social. She could have been going to meet a friend or going to the (Huntington) mall - anywhere."

The cell phone was at Fred's house. We don't know it was out of her purse. Her purse could be there too and it just hasn't been mentioned.

According to deputies, Goble went to Walmart on Saturday night before heading over to Kenna Drive to visit with a friend. Her wallet and cell phone were found at the house, although her car was found at the 42.2-mile marker just near the Crooked Creek exit in Putnam County. Her car was found around noon Sunday.
The search-and-rescue dog team did not turn up any trace evidence or clues about Goble when they searched near the Interstate on Wednesday; however, deputies are still searching.

Okay her WALLET and phone were at her "friend's" house, along with her Walmart purchases.

I'm beginning to wonder if they are looking for "fred" also? Do we know if the police have actually spoken to him?

Good Morning, I just read that Sheila's wallet, cell phone and the things she bought at walmart were found at Fred's house. Did the police search his house or did he give them the items? Why would she leave her wallet and cell phone behind and drive off? I wonder, Was she in the habit of carrying cash ? I don't think she ever left Freds.

I found a regional jail record with a man with the same name as her boyfriend. I won't post it here because I don't know that it's the same man. It was from last year around this same time in the wv regional jail for the Charleston WV area.

I actually live in this area about 45 minutes away from where she was shopping at wal-mart. Tonight we are expecting bad whether we are actually under a flashflood warning. The particular area in question is being hammered by storms right now. I hope the whether doesn't effect the search but, I am sure it is quiet possible that it will. I also wanted to point out ( I am not sure if this has been mentioned already or not) but,the interstate where her car was found is a bad stretch of hywy it has fast moving traffic with a bunch of tractor trailor traffic at high speeds. I actually go out of my way to avoid this stretch of road. I can't imagine that noone saw anything when the car was left on the side of the road. I will have to go back and read all of the posts but I find this fact alone very odd.

Have any trucking companies that run that route, especially the ones where that is their daily route (dedicated runs), been notified. Truckers talk on the CB, and I would always know long before I got to a location if there was a car/or person on the shoulder of the interstate.

Ruby, I have no idea about that but, I am pretty sure that we have cur. partrol around here. About 2 wks ago I was in this area and me and my daughter in law counted about 5 cars beside the road with white cloths hanging out the windows now this was on corridor g that merges into this interstate. I checked WSAZ.com this morning and she still has not been found yet. So sad.

Hi all. I just found this case and read the thread and numerous news articles. I think I've got it. Is this synopsis correct?

Saturday April 24
- Kathy works as usual until approx 5pm.
- Kathy goes to visit her ex-hubby.
- Kathy goes shopping at Walmart and purchases items. LE has video of her purchasing.
- Kathy goes to her bf Fred's house approx 8:30pm. This is the last sighting of Kathy.

Sunday April 25
- Kathy's car seen on Interstate at either noon or 7pm (depending on news article - most say 7pm).

Monday April 26
- Kathy doesn't show up at work. Co-workers and family get worried.
- Kathy's car found on the Interstate. Car is locked with a white towel in the window as if car had broken down but there was nothing wrong with the car. Car found by co-worker driving home from work Monday night.

Notes:
- Kathy's Walmart purchases were found at bf Fred's house.
- Kathy's cell phone was found at a friend's house. LE won't name the friend. LE says they don't believe Kathy left her phone intentionally. Kathy's wallet was also found at the friend's house.
- The press seems to think that the friend is actually bf Fred.
- Two homes have been searched, but LE won't say whose homes.
- Kathy is always happy and is very well liked, loved, and respected. Stable mentally/emotionally. Saturday was a perfectly normal day for her.
- Not known who called LE and when.
- Not known what Fred says the circumstances are of Kathy leaving his home Saturday night.
- Not known what bf Fred thought/did seeing Kathy's Walmart goodies, wallet, and cell phone sitting at his home all weekend into Monday when she was supposed to work.
- Not known if bf Fred called Kathy about all her stuff left at his house.
- Not known what bf Fred told LE he thought/did seeing all Kathy's stuff left at his house all weekend into Monday.
- No media interviews of bf Fred?
- LE statements indicate high level of suspicion/concern.
- No named POI/suspect by LE so far. Press seems suspicious of bf Fred.

Thanks!

BeanE I think you have a pretty good grasp. The one thing to point out from what I've heard and read(I'm a local) is that the car was spotted on the side of the road as early as 9:30 AM on Sunday. All the different news articles online say different times.

I've also read that her co-workers became worried when she didn't show up for work, but I don't know if they contacted the police or if it was her children.

I really wish LE would release a few more details. I shop at that Walmart and a few things have happened in that area lately that make me a bit uneasy to go there alone. I think from what has been pieced together though, nothing happened there and something happened at the house she visited in So. Charleston or shortly after.

ETA: I have a day mixed up. I thought her car was found on Sunday, but I guess it was Monday. All of the local reports seem to have different details.

For the past ten years, Goble has worked at Kelley's Mens Shop. Kelley's Vice President Kristi Waldeck says everyone is worried.

"Kelley's is like a family," Waldeck said on Wednesday's MetroNews Talkline. "Our employees have all worked here for a long time and we're all very close to one another."

Kanawha County Sheriff's Lieutenant Sean Crosier says there's evidence Goble stopped at the Southridge Wal-Mart at 8:30 p.m. Saturday night after leaving Kelley's Mens Shop just after 5 p.m.

He says they do not know why her car was along the interstate where Waldeck spotted it on the way to Huntington Monday.
