In 1979, Susan "Sue" Roop was going through a challenging divorce after discovering her husband Raymond's infidelity. Despite hardships like being run off the road and her house burning down, Sue remained optimistic, having been awarded custody of her children and expecting $3,000 from a property sale.

On January 12, Sue was last seen getting into a truck with an unidentified driver. Her children were soon greeted by Raymond, who claimed Sue had abandoned them. In February, a missing person's report was filed, and letters from Sue expressing fear for her safety surfaced. Despite multiple potential leads, Sue's remains have never been found. In 1993, a partial skull found on Bolt Mountain within the park was positively identified with Sue's DNA.>>
