I think being charged for rescue should only occur when people are grossly negligent or breaking the law. I don’t want forest access to be restricted to the wealthy.
I agree and if I am not mistaken I think much of rescues are paid for through government funding.
There was an issue in the White Mountains of N.H. a few years ago when a dangerous search in the winter was questioned, the missing were where they were not supposed to be etc. Many of rescuers are volunteers and as in most SAR's conditions are dangerous.
I can not remember exactly what happened but many felt that the people that they were searching for should have to pay and whether that came to be I just can't remember what the outcome was.
