I agree. If there wasn't a sign I don't know how she would know to turn there if she was unfamiliar with that area as well.
What kind of searching has been done along Union Pass RD itself by the family? Or has the focus been on the southern route the clerk had given?
Union Pass Rd has been thoroughly searched on both sides of the mountain by family, search and rescue and some very kind local citizens who generously helped look for Aubree. Our family had a Forest Service map and followed every trail on the map as well as any side trails that may have be able to be traveled with a truck, on both sides of the mountain. There are wilderness areas on either side of the camping area that were not searched as motor vehicles of any kind are allowed in those areas and because the truck was not found it was felt that it would be unlikely she would have wandered into those areas. We have pretty well covered the areas to the south as well. We are just finishing our search of the "Lander Cutoff".
