What would someone say in this type of situation if they were NOT a victim of DV? Are all people who don't push the blame on someone else to be considered DV victims? Not sure I'm understanding the logic on that. Is the normal reaction expected to be one of denial of any involvement, even if they were involved?
If you look at what BOTH of them say and do, you will see a pattern of him minimizing anything he does (and forgetting to mention that he hit her and grabbed her jaw, which there is corroboration of from the marks on her cheek and the witnesses) and her taking the blame for everything. While crying and looking terrified. Notice her reaction when the cop tells her witnesses reported him hitting her. THAT’S what screams to me that she is the victim.

Do DV perps typically volunteer to go to jail in place of the victim?

I read him saying that in an almost mocking tone. As in, he knew they would say no, because they didn't believe he was the aggressor and he was confident of that. It seemed smug to me, just my opinion.

I thought Brian had a different attorney. Wasn't there a document posted in the last thread with the name of the lawyer?
I think it was the US Atty who will be prosecuting the case for the US. ? jmo

Also I wonder who bought the van? Didn't they both work at Publix and maybe she worked at Taco Bell and as a Pharmacy Tech? I'm guessing her parents did? How much do those type of vehicles cost?

I don't think her parents bought it. Her mother said "the kids" bought it.

"Nichole Schmidt: They bought the van, they converted it.

The goal was to spend four or five months crisscrossing the country, having adventures — even working on organic farms — and chronicling it all in real time on social media."

It would not surprise me if they both put money in. But it appears it was titled in GP's name.

I think so, yes.

When the cop says no, because they don’t have any charge on him, notice he doesn’t say, Well, I was definitely slapping her before, can you charge me with that? Or for speeding to evade police stop?
Yes and as someone previously pointed out, he became tongue-tied and seemed quite nervous when first approached by LE at the Moab stop.

If they know that the police won't take him, gives the impression that he is a good guy trying to protect his girlfriend. I will say this watching those videos, as a DV victim myself, the part that hits me hard in this was when the officer said "you probably could not physically destroy this man the way he could if he attacked you...

I missed that. I've only been able to watch pieces at a time. Which one said that?
I'm not sure which officer it was but it was just after he mentioned him crossing the double yellow line and swerving onto the curb. Brian said, oh, that was her grabbing the wheel.

Then he said something like, did she take over the gas petal on you, too? Imo

So her parents probably bought her the van, and supported this cross country trip with Brian. I would assume they approved of him and didn't think she was in an abusive relationship.
They have said they supported her dream and JP said he didn't like him but no more than any of her other boyfriends he didn't like. They didn't see red flags before this trip.

And on that same topic, for the federal case, doesn't an attorney have to make a "notice of appearance" for the defense, just as the notice was made yesterday for the assistant US Attorney? @Alethea ?
If he is caught, they may assign a public defender, I think. Right now no one knows if he is among the living. jmo

From the link:

"NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - Tennessee bounty hunters are joining in the search for Brian Laundrie. They searched near the Appalachian Trail in Cocke County in East Tennessee after campers though they saw Laundrie.

“They had seen a white Camry that fits the description of his grandfather’s vehicle,” said Xander McDouall, co-owner of Predator Hunter Nation."

Hmmm.....tell me more about this white Camry. Where is it now? Does the grandfather not currently have it? Was it left at the reserve for BL to pick up, leaving the Mustang behind?

If BL had access to another vehicle all this time he could literally be anywhere in the country.

Interesting.

I could agree with a lot of this, I still don't understand why his parents still haven't put out any clarifying response as to any of it. Their lawyer is terrible, such a bad decision to stick with that guy if your take is true. I think BL was coherent and knowingly took GP's life, but I think the after effects of doing so drove him to break mentally. In other words, I think he was fine murdering her because he seems like the psychotic type but wasn't smart enough to know how to cover it up and couldn't mentally handle being caught for it as the walls were closing in and that's what broke him. I'm convinced at this point that he's dead of suicide somewhere in that preserve.

First of all, acc to attorneys I know, the Laundrie’s attorney is spot on and has done an excellent job legally. He’s warded off LE very effectively. PR-wise, not so good but I don’t think anyone expected this unprecedented social media blitz.
If and When the case goes to court and trial, the Laundries, most certainly BL if they find him, will need another attorney. This is not a wealthy family, and so they had better be saving the big bucks till then. Even if BL is not found or found dead, a civil suit from GP’s family is most certainly going to happen. This is just the beginning of the saga

ITA. I also think her begging to not be separated showed a lot of fear. Fear of his reaction but DV victims also have very low self-esteem due to the abuse and therefore she would be afraid to be alone thinking she can't handle things without him. JMO

It would take literally seconds to see if grandpa’s car is where it should be.

IF BL is out in the FL wilderness, I'm wondering what he is doing for fresh drinking water.
I’m a Floridian…. There is salt & fresh out there everywhere. The Everglades are fresh water…It feeds our water systems, which is usually why we get gators in our local lakes around neighborhoods, they come through the canals that are everywhere. I’ve often wonder if BL could be somewhere in the Everglades. It’s so vast, has the Big Cypress Seminole Indian reservation, Everglades National Park and much more. Loaded w/alligators because it is fresh water…very few roads, most are access roads for various reasons with Tamiami Trail/Alligator Alley being the most popular. It connects both sides of our state and when driving across, the alligators are usually everywhere on the banks. While I can’t see BL choosing that area, it is close to his last known whereabouts (if we can believe what’s been said) and it is remote…and it will stay warm all year long. Florida’s vegetation is green all year long. Trees do lose their leaves but grow back in immediately there after (South Florida). It’s anyone’s guess where he is, sadly.

'He grabbed it with his nail. I definitely have a cut right here.'

In newly released body camera video from the August 12 traffic stop in Utah— #GabbyPetito tells an officer #BrianLaundrie hit her. MORE: https://8.wfla.com/3md85S4
After watching the video again, my initial reaction was that the officers were all very nice to both Gabby and BL. One may have been more talkative than the others, but he was very friendly, and I felt he was trying to relate to them (about his wife) to make them feel better, but also perhaps to plant the seed that maybe they weren't well-suited for each other, especially on the road. As a talker myself, I know that while you're doing the talking, you're not actively listening; you're not picking up on what's in front of you very well. They overlooked two things -- BL told them himself that he hit her, and they ignored the fact that Gabby demonstrated how BL grabbed her face and cut her cheek with his nails. I don't believe they deserved disciplinary actions or anything, but if one of your officers has a gut feeling, pay attention to the gut feeling. Our gut feelings and minds often conflict, but the mind tricks us while our gut doesn't lie and should be trusted.

I know the le and witnesses must feel so awful. I hope we all can learn from this in one way or another.

My husband is twice as big as me. We've never laid a hand on each other in anger but if I started hitting him he would sit and take it. Why? Because he could easily break a bone or kill me. But I wouldn't be able to seriously harm him with my bare hands. If I got a weapon that changes things as then I'd be able to harm him, so therefore he should be able to defend himself against true physical harm. See the difference, though? It's not about gender, it's about size and capability, and intent.

I hope my 22 year old daughter never comes to me asking for $50K to finance a boat trip down the coast with her loser boyfriend to document on social media. I suspect all the parents were footing the bill for this adventure. There is no way they bought and paid for that van with jobs at Publix and Taco Bell. It was a recipe for disaster.
