Do DV perps typically volunteer to go to jail in place of the victim?

IME, Yep! It's a great manipulation tool down the road
"I went to jail for you." or "I had to go to jail because of you."

First of all, acc to attorneys I know, the Laundrie’s attorney is spot on and has done an excellent job legally. He’s warded off LE very effectively. PR-wise, not so good but I don’t think anyone expected this unprecedented social media blitz.
If and When the case goes to court and trial, the Laundries, most certainly BL if they find him, will need another attorney. This is not a wealthy family, and so they had better be saving the big bucks till then. Even if BL is not found or found dead, a civil suit from GP’s family is most certainly going to happen. This is just the beginning of the saga

How can a civil suit be brought against the parents? If BL is dead, one could be brought against his estate, but against the parents? For what? I think we can be pretty sure they didn't kill GP. I don't get it. Please explain!

I don't think that his parents are responsible for the cost of his defense. He is an adult and is indigent, He will likely be deemed indigent and have a public defender......unless his parents are crazy enough to offer their life's savings to a private attorney. jmo

Why ?

1) Narcissists do not off themselves and they do not feel guilt. They have no conscience.

2) Parents aren’t worried or frantic at all. Did not even give a “our son was last seen wearing …”

I feel they are hiding more than we know but if he left when they weren't home or in the middle of the night, they may have no clue what he's wearing.

I don't think her parents bought it. Her mother said "the kids" bought it.

"Nichole Schmidt: They bought the van, they converted it.

The goal was to spend four or five months crisscrossing the country, having adventures — even working on organic farms — and chronicling it all in real time on social media."

It would not surprise me if they both put money in. But it appears it was titled in GP's name.
I would guess they got a loan. Maybe she was on title because she was the only one on the loan? Unmarried couples can do several things like one person contributes the down payment and the other is on the loan. The one with the the loan is the only one on the title but they may tell everyone it's "their" van together. As a couple you could then proceed with additional legal docs describing the dual ownership agreement, but given their age that probably wasn't on their mind. It may not necessarily be a good thing to be soley responsible for payments if you agree to split them because it can damage credit if you can't pay. Maybe BL wanted her in that position for leverage. Regardless, nothing has come up about any additional docs so the van is GP's legally.

From the link:

"NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - Tennessee bounty hunters are joining in the search for Brian Laundrie. They searched near the Appalachian Trail in Cocke County in East Tennessee after campers though they saw Laundrie.

“They had seen a white Camry that fits the description of his grandfather’s vehicle,” said Xander McDouall, co-owner of Predator Hunter Nation."
_____________________________________________________

Hmmm.....tell me more about this white Camry. Where is it now? Does the grandfather not currently have it? Was it left at the reserve for BL to pick up, leaving the Mustang behind?

If BL had access to another vehicle all this time he could literally be anywhere in the country.

Interesting.
Wow this puts a new spin on his travels! White Camry! I wouldn’t want to mess with all those bounty hunters!

I hope my 22 year old daughter never comes to me asking for $50K to finance a boat trip down the coast with her loser boyfriend to document on social media. I suspect all the parents were footing the bill for this adventure. There is no way they bought and paid for that van with jobs at Publix and Taco Bell. It was a recipe for disaster.
As someone said earlier...they were eligible (or she was) for the stimulus money. That may have been a nice nest egg for the trip. Her mom said that "THEY" bought the van. jmo

Oops, I just edited my OP because I think that's the name of the DA, not an attorney representing the defendant? There are two listed but I think they are representing the states case. Imo
Yeah, I realize that now….

And on that same topic, for the federal case, doesn't an attorney have to make a "notice of appearance" for the defense, just as the notice was made yesterday for the assistant US Attorney? @Alethea ?

Yes, once you are officially hired. It usually happens after your client is officially served with the arrest warrant/civil complaint but it can happen before if your client instructs you to appear. I never had a client disappear on me before so I am not sure how Brian and SB or another lawyer would handle it since it's not clear to me you would have your client's permission to appear on their behalf if they're missing.

But still they would attempt - they would say what they last saw him in. He lived at home. Mom could see what clothes are missing and if he packed a bag. My point is they made no effort to describe anything and that is very telling

It speaks to how inept their RE lawyer is at trying to defend this homicide case. Narcs are good at pretending but the incompetent are not.

Right. She began blaming herself before she even got out of the van. Even his speeding was all her fault. At least one of the officers must have picked up on that when he asked Brian, Did she put her foot on the gas pedal, too? Imo
Exactly. Her story directly contradicts the second eye-witness account in which he does the slapping. She readily accepts the behavior as her own.
