Could be, but wouldn’t that mean he premeditated this? Guys, And I hate to be disrespectful, but I dont see that as a forethought coming from him. And on that note, why use her card?
Why not use her card (in his mind)? It's free money. He may have drained his own account/accounts as well, but that is not illegal. And the FBI has been completely silent on this case except for an occasional "we can neither confirm nor deny" statement. For all we know, he drained his own accounts between Aug 30-Sep 10, as well. jmo

Breaking Watauga County- a body has been found near a popular overlook along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Sheriff deputies are confirming a male was discovered dead near the Thunder Hill overlook near Blowing Rock. Park Rangers, the SBI and sheriff deputies are investigating.

4:07 PM · Oct 9, 2021

Has anyone been reported missing in this area?

This is near Appalachian State University campus where it was reported some students had sighted him "on the parkway" That would presumably be the Blue Ridge Parkway. Thunder Hill Overlook is one of the overlooks along that parkway. He presumably left the overlook, according to the college students reporting this, in a silver 4runner. MOO

Davis, who spoke to a number of news outlets on Saturday, claims he saw Brian Laundrie driving in a white pickup truck around 12:30 a.m. ET on Saturday in Tennessee near the North Carolina border.
Now they have found a male body in NC, near Thunderhill Lookout. If it ends up being BL, I would believe he was saying he was going to CA to throw searchers off trail as he headed the other way back to NC, to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I pray this is not BL as it gave me an immediate sadness. He owes it to the Petito's to tell the story of what happened, and to stay alive for his family who love him.

It will be interesting to see if LE also locate an abandoned white pick up in the same area as the body???
I was wondering if LE drove from park to park as well.... IMO

Climbing difficult land formations were challenges for him.
He had the will, and he found the way.
He had strength, willpower to do it, endurance and persistence to achieve the goals.
The earth and its tough formations will not control him, he will conquer them.

Van life was a challenge.
He had the will, and found the way even with apparently little money.
He studied what was needed for the travels, accumulated money, mapped out plans, etc.
He probably took on this challenge to get out of being controlled by his parents
Snipped for focus

BL was far from being a "climber". He scrambled up rocks that millions of people scramble up. This is not a challenge. You can do that when you're 8.
AFAIK the planning, maps, money accumulation belong to GP. "He found the way even with apparently little money" requires a footnote; he required very little money of his OWN. BL's "will" extended to sponging off others, including stealing someone else's credit card and vehicle so he could run home to Mom. This man has no goals. He's dependent. Never had to be by himself. Not capable of meeting the challenge even of everyday living.
IMO

you have to call in or log on and "register" a gift card- and the company in charge has a record of the use of it

A visa or Mastercard gift card? I have used these many times and have never had to register them with anyone. In fact, when I use them online, I have to fill the card holder name as "GIFT CARD RECIPIENT" or whatever it says on the card. MOO

Edit- I would call these the 'burner phones' of the credit card world.. lol

Are you counting the text about helping with Stan?

"No service in Yosemite" alleged message to Nicole Schmidt.

Separate issue - why is Nicole S now quite silent (and apparently asked to be so by the FBI) on the "No service in Yosemite" text ? (This was referred to in a previous thread Quite extensively).

suspicion - it was sent on Brian's phone and signed Gabby (or it had more text on it than has been released). Obviously if an SMS comes in frm a foreign Cellphone, number the handset does not tag it with the name associated with the previous number.

It makes no sense to send a No service message from Gabby's phone - you are trying to send a message
out on a system you suspect does not work (a contra argument is that the Rx signal indicator was showing poor performance and the message was sent while driving before the tower connection finally dropped out). That suggests that Gabby's phone was on one provider's network and Brian's may have been on another's.

So Nichole S may have started assuming things and from an evidentiary standpoint the LE and prosecutor don't want a lot of red herrings floating about.

If NS is quoting more "Gabby phone " messages than in fact exist (and were sent by Brian post his murder of Gabby) then that provides a chink hole for defense to work into.

EDIT

"Petito's last known location was Aug. 25 in Grand Teton National Park. Schmidt told Fox News that she received a text from Petito's phone on Aug. 30, saying that there was no service in Yellowstone, but she does not believe that message was sent by her daughter."

But why did she not believe that ?? Was it in fact sent from a DIFFERENT Phone number ? Did Gabby have a special way of signing off messages.? Either the press has loused something up or there is more to the message than what is shown. The FBI by now of course would know what IMSI (internal handset number ) it was sent through (this is completely regardless of any SIM card swap that that BL might have done ) . There is some sensitivity about this message that Nichole S is not coming clean about .

End of Msg theories from KG for a while :))

For the member having problems with duplicates. I’m sorry, this is moving so fast that I cannot find your comment but it isn’t you.

The software hangs up. After you post something, at least for me, it keeps that same post in a reply box below the main body of messages. So if you try to reply to another message, both will show up. And then there are the times when duplicates just happen — seems to be a different issue.

I deal with the text that gets leftover by selecting it all, deleting it, and placing an X or another letter at the very top. Give it a few minutes to save the draft and then move on — all the excess will disappear and leave the single character.

Your mileage may vary but this has worked for me.

Why would her children being around cause her to not speak of Gabby? If she knew nothing, suspected nothing, why would the topic be taboo?

IKR? The way she said the kids were there, it sounded as though she was saying that of course they couldn't talk about murder in front of the kids! But that was on September 6th and she says she didn't even know Gabby was missing at that time. IMO, it should have been perfectly natural to talk about Gabby in front of the kids. The subject of Gabby should have come up, at least once, to ask how she was doing by herself in WY, had she and BL face-timed or texted or talked, etc.

To quote the NPPD PIO, "There's a lot of oddness."

It's also weird considering the sister made a point of mentioning how Gabby and her kids were close, how the kids loved Gabby etc. Wouldn't the kids be asking "Uncle Brian, where's Gabby?!" ?? Nobody knew GP was missing at that point. It's weird that they DIDN'T talk about her.

Do you think it's because his parents babied him? or the opposite?

As he's 8-9 years younger than his sister, he may have been mollycoddled as a young child. The baby of the family is often treated quite differently to older siblings and I think it's possible that this is what we're seeing now. He may not have been taught to take responsibility for his actions and over- indulged by his parents.

Very good points, especially about contextualizing people.
I read a recent story about Andrew Yang, the tech guy and former presidential candidate, said he found it so odd when people recognized him in public even when he was wearing jeans instead of his professional jacket. Because most people didn't. Even though he was very famous during the last presidential election.

Found the story.

Andrew Yang: "This was particularly surprising to me because I was wearing jeans and a hoodie. The fact that people recognized me out of my campaign uniform of a blazer and dress shirt was shocking to me. My favorite was when a young woman came up to me and said, “Are you Andrew Yang? No, no, you’re not,” and then walked away."

When I Ran for President, It Messed With My Head

She could not see Andrew Yang in that context so her brain ruled it out for her. Something similar could be happening with BL if he has changed his appearance at all.

he dyed his hair once; he could dye it again. he needs some one willing to hire him illegally or with a fake ID... maybe in a coffee shop or a bodega? he knows smoothies... but he needs to live somewhere cheaply and I do not think that roommates are his thing. once he has to work, he risks contact with the public and being recognized. not sure if he can "work from home" with fake ID. IMO (pure speculation).

Is it true that someone, not family, helped BL get a phone. Based on retired FBI investors, BL will find his comfort zone by relying on someone. Perhaps, within Florida. I wonder what it takes to track through the relationship tree. Are there legal requirements to monitor someone distantly related. It seems that it would take a lot of time. BL would need to keep moving and not settle to not get caught. Eventually, this movement should lead to a mistake.

I wish this site had a thumbs up button lol. This reply gets 2 thumbs up! This family is just acting too odd!

Just replying as to what I would do. If I were this deep in the fooey stew; I still think I would put on some big old swamp boots (is that what they call them?) and pull myself out before I drown in the fooey. Not sure what it will take for them to put the swamp boots on but hopefully it will be sooner, rather than later.
I do feel for them because personally, I would have never let it get this far out of control.

Actually, BL's parents have no incentive to do anything other than to keep their mouths shut. AFAIK, they cannot be compelled to talk, and if they are questioned, they will have their lawyer present and won't be compelled to say much, if anything at all. I don't see any plus side for them saying anything. They can ride out the storm until the attention dies away and then go on with their lives.

Body found on local section of Blue Ridge Parkway Saturday afternoon - WataugaOnline.com

A body was found on a local section of the Blue Ridge Parkway today. Sources tell WataugaOnline.com that the body was found down an embankment in the area of Aho Gap and the 321/221 access.
HMMM Nat.Park service is the agency that would release details, and they haven't yet. Didn't the NPS at Yellowstone refuse to release details about possible reservations for G and B? or do I have this all wrong? JUST A QUESTION jmo ETA disregard........not BL

So … the last time Brian spoke with Bertolino was ON the 13th and the Laundrie’s recently corrected their statement to say Brian left for a hike ON the 13th. But wait. Now there is reference to Christopher being gone for 3.5 hours to search the reserve ON the 13th, which is why the FBI had him out on foot searching the reserve for 3.5 hours, likely to try and show that Christopher wasn’t actually searching the reserve on the 13th.

So, Christopher searched the reserve for 3.5 hours on the 13th, but didn’t report his son missing until the 17th? 4 days later? Hmmmmm.
