How can they go from a massive search at Carlton Reserve to opening to the public?!?!!

I'm gonna say because they've been searching for weeks, including after conditions improved, and didn't find anything. jmo

IMO, I appreciate everyone’s personal experiences being shared, but I think we should remember that this case has been compelling partly because we saw the idyllic edited van life footage and we also saw the Moab footage. There was no beautifully arranged sleeping area in that footage. It showed the contrast between what can be presented on social media versus reality. I’m not sure any of us have a good sense of BL in reality other than his SM portrayal and the Moab video. I don’t believe his book choices make him a killer. I also don’t believe we know he’s not a killer because of anything he’s posted.

My observation of BL is that he seemed to be manipulative to the LE officers in the Moab stop (didn’t answer direct questions, lots of hand signaling, blaming Gabby, going out of his way to appear helpful). His walk also doesn’t seem like it’s due to loose sandals… but rather something that would require at least physical therapy to correct. I’d be very surprised if he could just decide to change his walk to blend in. Beyond that, I don’t know much about him and his reactions in extreme pressure situations. I would guess he’s not a criminal mastermind and is relying on the head start he got to stay ahead of LE.

Just wanted to take a minute to remind everyone that our own situations and experiences can be invaluable in seeing a small detail, but they may also sometimes cause us to see things that aren’t there.

All JMO.

the second sentence should say "and tell her to go take a walk" instead of "and told him to go take a walk"
Oh yikes! Thank you - will edit my post.

Id venture to guess that a good number of us has had their early adulthood dreams crushed largely by the relationships we were in at the time. Its a sad reality/risk of early adulthood. And moving on from those disappointments and relationships was a rocky road, but most of us have found acceptance of that fact and some resolution in our lives. Those two were out there alone in the mess they created for themselves by not really ever being on the same page in terms of passions and goals. And they had no relief from each other and no real confidants that they could receive counsel from except their respective parents, long distance. And neither wanted their parents to know just how much trouble they were really in. Sadly, I think what happened was almost bound to happen and no one but they could do anything to avert it. jmo So, here we are.

I have thought these thoughts many times.... Most of us here have many miles under out belts, and our logic, sense of responsibility, and are so much more seasoned and only behind the protection of a keyboard...

I can think of many things i did, especially in connection with a relationship... that makes me pretty d*amned happy that I made it through without more dire consequence.

These were immature young adults, with basically very little life experience to guide them.

At the end of the day, we have absolutely no idea of what was going through their young challenged and tortured psyches with no solid ground beneath them.

I truly believe we could have been looking at a case of manslaugher with a minimal sentence with just one or two different actions.

Thank you for sharing this!

My mind goes over and over the possibilities in this case. Sometimes they're out there, lol. But not always.

1. Assuming he is alive and has help, BL needs (at least):
- to interact with as few people as possible
- to avoid being recognized
- fake ID
- access to food and potable water
- a place to sleep
- access to a vehicle
- escape routes, if need be
- internet access/free wifi
- cash transactions
- proximity to helpers

2. Native American tribes have cabins for rent on their land. BL may have seen or heard of these. Maybe the law is different there regarding whether a fugitive can be arrested there if their crime wasn't committed on NA land?

Interesting fact--REI.com uses Native American place names when giving store locations. I imagine BL knows that.

3. If you search for cheap accommodation on the site hipcamp.com, you see rougher, more isolated places available. Perfect for such a fugitive--fewer amenities = fewer people around. A helper could funnel the payment via a gift card or an app.
How far would he need to travel to get to them?
Vehicle he allegedly drove to the 'meditation zone' is the last stop we got and we don't even know how real that is..
Travel involves risk.
But he had a 4 day head start..
Pay cash in advance for as long as he needed..

How do these online bank accounts work like.Chime!
Ppl.can open bank accounts without ever entering a bank

It's almost the same as a brick and mortar bank. Proof of identity is a must, ssn, and any other documents required by the banking industry. In order to get cash with these online bank app's is designated atm machines. If you pay a fee you can use any atm machine.

Everything else can be done online with transfers from one account to another, and deposits (checks) can be done either through direct deposit (by an employer), by snail mail sending a endorsed check to the bank address, or depending on a cellphone taking a picture of the endorsed check and having it accepted by the bank.

These online banks are under the same rules and regulations of the banking industry/FDIC. It's fairly simple and Gabby was using the capital one 360 checking account and probably had a savings account and possibly a credit card account, also of course the debit card for her checking account.

Would you feel the same if she had been your daughter? The actions and behavior of BL
(And his parents) have made it extremely difficult to sympathetic with. They have shown no mercy or compassion to Gabby and her family, IMHO

Investigation Discovery to air new segment:
Gabby Petito: ID Special Report
Wednesday, Oct 13, 9pm/8 central.

Hope they have new info. This re-reporting (disguised as new info) & expert panel rehashing/ review is getting tiresome. We need an arrest & justice.

Thanks much for the announcement for the program, @JudgeJoe!

I do want to ask the Investigation Discovery people -- why do we have to wait until Wednesday?!...:(
Like some others here, I'm guessing, I got excited, sat up straight, and started to look for it in the TV listing, but then I saw the date (d'oh), and I settled down, took a breath, and sighed.
It's just an example of how starved we all are for some Real News! It's how we operate here, isn't it? :)
Go, go, go. Read, read, read, and then get back to Websleuths to share ideas! We're want justice for Gabbie and her people, and justice for BL and his people, too. Grrrrr.
We'll see what's what on Wednesday...

Heavens to Betsy, look at the pack belt. The guy has no clue. I can guarantee that every single poster on this thread knows that a belt buckle goes in front of the belly. Look where BL put his. As you get up to go get yourself a snack while the next page in this thread is loading, observe that your hips go up and down when you walk. Then, consider what will happen if the pack is loaded. The pack will be off center. Every step you take, the pack is messing with your body and impacting the way you move. It may list to one side, turn you into a human pendulum, make your spine twist….
Pro tip: a belt buckle connects in front of the belly. (Exactly where in front of the belly it goes is an advanced pro tip and unnecessary for this point.)
Moral: BL is clueless about basics. He has always had someone else to get him through even simple stuff.

Also, BL’s dad is worrisomely ill-equipped for whatever trip they’re on. His poor body…

Agree with your points. Do you feel it could have been as simple as he buckled quickly for a picture then adjusted properly afterwards? I’ve done things like that but you may have a different perspective from mine.

<modsnip - no sleuthing parents>
I don't see him living with anyone if he's in a house, basement, apt, etc., not even with relatives. Would you keep this guy in your house if he were your nephew, etc?? He!! no, I wouldn't touch him. No way.

Upstate New York is where I would be looking for BL. The Catskills and Adirondacks are obvious areas of interest, but there is a lot of open space upstate.

I would be looking at properties owned by the family/relatives, especially ones that are deceased.

IMO

A lot of those upstate ny cabins do stay empty except during hunting and fishing season. I know fishing season starts late winter/early spring, but I don't know when hunting season begins or ends.

The buckle means nothing. Knowledge of the basics mean nothing. Grandma Gatewood walked the entire AT twice in her senior years with all her “gear” & provisions in a pillowcase slung over her shoulder. She was highly motivated. Brian Laundrie is highly motivated. He will never be caught if people continue to underestimate his motivation.

First, just a disclaimer: I’m happy to find out facts of this case as they come out and everything is subject to change.

I personally don’t believe BL is in Carlton Reserve until someone can confirm a more concrete reason for thinking that besides that the parents said he went there. It makes no sense to me that he’d be there, but I’m definitely not privy to the information LE has (I hope). Unfortunately at this point, I’m having trouble believing the parents, SB and the NPPD so I do need something confirmed for me to get on board with that.

I think the biggest issue with anyone finding him is the head start he has. If he hasn’t used credit cards, it seems like it’s just a waiting game for someone to either see him or for him to slip up. I love that @Tiff23fr mentioned Maslow’s hierarchy of needs earlier because I don’t think he’d be able to prioritize art or his love for the outdoors at this point because a rational man would be strictly in survival mode.
JMO.

If we're lucky he can pick up where he left off with his arts and crafts. He could do that all day everyday in prison...

Call me a cynic but this sounds awfully like he is bowing out....

Anyone else surprised to the degree that Brian has been able to evade Dog and the FBI? Not one single solid lead so far.

I don’t think he is evading; I think he is dead

Something changed?

But what?

I'm not so sure they were.fighting a lot her mom.even her dad said no they were not.aware of any fights!

To.me it was the time.comsumed.for the vlog she was.doing!

Seems.after.6 hours at the co top he said ok that's enough she wasn't having it he took.her.phone! Said hey im.gonna.just.leave.u here! I can see.this argument clearly ! He takes.phone she's grabbing g for it hes.pushing her away! She was.distraught over.this vlog! He said Maybe she couldn't do.it! I do t think they were.fighting.over anything else!

How.long were they at the restaurant where he was.upset! Were they there so long their

lunch.prices became dinner prices?

did he fly back. to.Florida so.she could.do.her blog and he would t have.to.just sit there?

There is more.to this than we know! I hope we.hear his explanation sometime soon!

I think he was.going.to hitchhike home.at first. Then went back.for the van!

Who.knows!

Just.my thoughts.today

BBM
Possible. As you said, apparently he wasn't supportive of her work. However IMO the smallest things might set him off, so they could've been fighting over anything.

And yes IIRC he took her phone and tried to take her van, according to a witness and/or Gabby herself.

IMO

Every now and then I picture these scenarios. Brings tears. Young lady embracing life, hopeful expectations of the future, while constantly around a man she loves who doesn't believe in her, belittling her work and her. Having to walk on eggshells.

MOO based on bodycam, witness statements, and my personal education/experience.

As for her parents saying they weren't aware of fighting, that's not uncommon in these situations.

IMO
___________________

This is ridiculous IMO. Six hours is not even a full dang work day. This is what she was trying to put into place for generating the income they needed to continue their trip. This perspective basically blames Gabby for BL flying off the handle, MOO.

MOO
Yes I'm afraid she lived with this, never knowing when he'd blow. Her parents just learning about this must break them.

Feeling the feels today. I've been distracted from all that, by focusing on other details of the case.

Feds would have found it already.
I see more of a picture of somebody being handed a wad of cash to find a private rental in a specific area or region.
Harder to track.

Or a secret friend but the Feds would probably have found that too.
