I agree. I don’t think anyone watching the Moab tape would believe Gabby would soon be murdered by BL, if they had no idea of what actually later occurred.

Within my own experience and in my own family and circle, there have been numerous DV relationships — some really extreme — that went on for years, and no one wound up dead. Of course they were awful and shouldn’t have taken place at all.

But how did BL escalate from slapping to murder? I still can’t believe how this all turned out, and I’m sure the Petitos can’t either.

I suspect he's been doing painful physical things to her for a while and in the last few months it really escalated in private. We don't know, but that makes more sense than they slapped each other, he grabbed her face to push her away, and two weeks later he commits violent murder by strangulation out of the blue. I can't get over how violent strangling someone to death is - it's really a lot worse IMO than just shooting someone, which only takes a second to do.

Assaulting someone and leaving them lying on the ground until they die (whether the assailant looks at them or not) is very likely second degree murder. The push is a physical force which is known to be able to cause injury - which it did in your example (or else Gabby would simply have walked 10 minutes to the main campground or flagged down another camper). She was left there will all her things. So this assailant committed a felony (assault, DV, ending in death) and then took off with all the victim's possessions...

People don't go off with other friends/boyfriends without their ID, phone, and their basic possessions. They just don't. If they are locked out/thrown out on rocks in a campsite, they get up and seek help - unless they are not able. They do not just lie there waiting to be strangled by someone else.

Your defense left out that she died due to strangling. He cannot leave not knowing she's dead, IMO. If he says she was moving around after he strangled her, he is lying because she died due to a crushed windpipe and, likely, pressure to arteries.

He did not just push her. Another person did not just happen open her, sitting on open ground with no camping equipment, and just randomly strangle her.

The strangulation is what the defense has to explain away. No reasonable person would believe the Rando story.

I was only making this up. I don't believe it. Just saying he could use something like this. He could say she was so angry at him, she walked away and he could say someone else strangled her. All I'm saying, if his defence is good, and DNA is lacking, he might not get first degree murder, nor even second degree murder. MOO.

I was just rereading the warrant. One debit card and two other Capitol One accounts. Three different account numbers. Seems bold. MOO.

actually, the indictment lists the debit card (with its last 4 digits) and PIN for 2 capital one accounts (with each of their last 4 digits)...the debit card is not an account of its own, it and the PIN are "access devices" attached to the 2 bank accounts...moo

They had planned to stay 3-4 nights at most places she had selected on Dyrt, as far as I can tell from Dyrt and her instagram. It was Gabby on Dyrt, doing the research, AFAIK, Brian did not have a Dyrt account.

I don't think they were at Arches continuously - although they could have gone through twice (it's on the way from where they were in CO to Zion and Bryce, where they also stayed).
It is....it just seems odd. Why do you believe they weren't there continuously.

I just did that trip, and even though those three appear close-ish, in real life, it doesn't make much sense to go back and forth logistically, none are right around the corner from each other. Not saying they cared about that...when on NO timeline or calendar, they may not have cared at all. BUT if they stayed at Arches since sometime in July through August 12/13, it's a pretty good span of time. If they stayed that long, I wonder why and who they may have met and interacted with that we may not be aware of. MOO

If one isn't listed or recorded or engaged ~ then isn't there a requirement for a public defender to be appointed? Maybe there's another document somewhere?

He is a real estate attorney. BL needs a lawyer that is knowledgeable in federal court procedures and is accustomed to the federal rules of criminal law. That probably won’t happen until he is found. SB does nothing more than speak for the family and give advice to them. No need for him to file his appearance in the courts.

IMO he probably didn’t go back in mid August to run an errand. Likely after Moab their relationship problems were escalating, she escalates to breaking off engagement and threatening to end trip, he escalates to actually ditching her and moving her stuff out back home.

They make up over the phone and he comes back as long as they are still engaged. Two days later 8/25 they are in a shop and he is insisting she publicly confirm they are fiancés.

Two days later 8/27 after embarrassing merry piglet, she cancels engagement again and wants nothing to do with him. In a rage because he came all the way back to Utah/Wyoming he chokes her out

MOO JMO IMO etc

I think you are very much on the right track. Even if she didn't cancel again, she decided to stand up to him about his public behavior. Having come back to her, at expense, did indeed increase his anger, IMO. It seems highly likely.

Knowingly and with intent to defraud.

United States of America v. BRIAN CHRISTOPHER LAUNORIE

Thanks for this.
Wow!
They are seeking pretrial detention for
1) being a flight risk
2) "Safety of any other person and the community"

BBM

So Brian is considered a danger to others.
That's the first time I have seen LE express that.
They certainly aren't warning the public about him!

I know that is true legally, but the inference has been made that he was stealing her money. But, that's okay. FBI had their reasons to charge him for it.

He was stealing her money. It’s her account, her money.

We'll see. IMO, the 'current complexities' could simply mean that BL's missing and hasn't been charged with murder. No teeth yet. That could change. I pay attention to wording.

IMO, if not Baez, it will be someone of his caliber. I certainly don't see SB defending BL in a federal trial.

MOO.
Same here. Baez did not say "no," or "never." I am assuming Baez can be in charge of a Federal trial.
I wonder how much money he would ask for rep'ing BL. I also wonder what the going rate would be for any good defense atty in a case like this. Flat fee or per hour -- either, imo, would be pretty steep, IMHO. Lotsa bucks.

Does anyone out there have a feel for what a defense fee for a trial such as this would cost? I'd really like to know...

The expense was paid for by them both according to her lawyer.
I can't find exact tweet right now, so if anybody can locate it quickly, I'd appreciate it. I'll try.

I think that BL is going to be arrested when we least expect it. Kind of like a pregnant woman waiting for labor to start, but it feels like it’s never going to happen…..then all of a sudden….. BOOM!!!

If SB knows where BL is at, does he have a legal duty to report that to LE?
I read that if he is asked specifically by LE, he has to tell the truth.

I find it curious that Gabby and Brian's Dyrt account submitted a review for a BLM campsite in Arches Utah, in JULY, saying they visited in July. How long were they at Arches in Utah? The body cam incident was August 12th. That is quite a long visit, right? Or something isn't quite accurate, which is also possible. I find it, again, quite curious. MOO.
Check out Gabby & Brian V.'s reviews on The Dyrt
I think it’s common to not list accurate info on that when you are traveling like they were. My friends who used it for their cross country camping trip never put when they were at a place because they didn’t want someone stalking and predicting where they might go. MOO.

Have you verified it was from their account? What other journeys were actually documented by Gabby in the interim? Did any clash with the date of that review?

It would have to be a totally made-up theory involving fantasy people who may or may not exist, IMO.
The only suspect that we know of is who the FBI have named a POI, and that's BL.

Exactly this, and the people who claim to have these additional theories know this, because they never post them, even when directly asked. MOO.
