I agree they are sweet people but they deserve to know answers and a civil suit may be the only way to get some truth from the laundries

You can't force someone to talk. You could force them to pay money, which I think is highly doubtful, but you can't make them talk.

However, I think they will talk. Maybe.

  • #902
Exactly, and we won't be moving on until we are satisfied that we have all the answers in this case.
I feel a sense of relief that he's gone. He won't pose a threat to anymore women. He won't abuse them, or threaten to take their belongings again.

  • #903
Hoping for a civil suit by the Petito/Schmidt family if the Laundries refuse to talk.

On what grounds? They were/are under advisement by their attorney to remain silent. They didn't kill Gabby. We don't know what information they knew or provided to the FBI. Only time will tell.

MOO.

This website is about the people who use it and their thoughts, IMO.
Nope, it is about the victims of crimes and those who are missing and need remembering. We're just faceless voices giving those left behind support.

  • #905
No, I still want to know if he committed suicide, or if he wasn't the great outdoorsman he claimed to be. IMO he got away with murder-suicide.
He didn't get away with anything!

JMO: * example may be upsetting to read.

I anticipate lots of new theories and posts with the recent news, and I think everyone should take time to get acquainted with the term concern trolling, as defined by Dictionary.com.

" Concern trolling involves someone opposing an idea or viewpoint, yet acting like they’re an advocate for the cause. A concern troll offers undermining criticisms under the guise of concern. Their goal is to sabotage the cause being discussed, and to inspire doubt among group members. This occurs in groups rallied around a particular issue, especially in political parties, and the goal of concern trolling is to cause dissent within a community."

An example of concern trolling may be: "I'm not saying BL is innocent but we can't disprove that he was defending himself from GP's violence! Size has nothing to do with violence, she was on record being violent to him. Who knows what their relationship was really like. She struggled with mental health, and she was capable of disappearing and framing him. Now two lives are lost."

This is concern trolling and it is not limited to online forums either. Sadly, I am sure we will see a lot of these comments now that BL "can't speak for himself". MOO, such a tragic situation all around.
Just want to add that having an *honest* unpopular opinion or a different opinion without intent to disrupt is not trolling. I don't intend to change my stance until/unless evidence proves otherwise.

"We" are not Gabby's family. They may be owed information... but we are not.
Okay but the FBI asked that WE (the public) help with any tips or leads on what happened to Gabby or where Brian was. So in all reality, I'd think they do owe us SOMETHING.

This is tragic all the way around for both families. I am also wondering if he committed suicide. It seems strange to me that he could be so happy-go-lucky on the camping trips and then commit suicide. I surmise that if he committed suicide it might have been shortly after he went into the nature reserve especially since the remains are said to be skeletal. I have read that it takes a long time for remains to become skeletal. My heart goes out to the families.

UPDATE: On October 21, 2021, a comparison of dental records confirmed that the human remains found at the T. Mabry Carlton, Jr. Memorial Reserve and Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park are those of Brian Laundrie. @FBITampa

And I jokingly said many threads ago said that upper left side tooth of his was going to be a giveaway. Now it ends up his teeth did do the identifying. How said for the L's. I hope the protestors let them sleep tonight. They're going to need it, if they are even able to.

Now I'm wondering where Gabby's case will go if it's determined his DNA was found under her fingernails meaning he was the murderer. Do cases like this just get dropped? It's mindboggling how quickly this one went and how huge it became. I do like that there has been some positive outcomes from this case like other missing people being found, and the foundation for missing people. It's still very sad for all involved. :(

ETA-removing previous post stuck in with new
I have a couple comments/musings /questions:

1. If BL killed himself (by whatever means), what would be a reason to do it in water, as opposed to on a road/higher land in the park? He would have done it when alone in any case.

2. On the other hand, if "gator," (or other animal) how is it that his dry bag/notebook, if on him, would be in tact to any degree?

I guess he could have put the bag where he thought it would be safe-ish (though apparently not safe enough from water/rising waters), then walked into the water to drown, shot himself, or purposefully od'ed then walked or fell into the swamp. Still not seeing why he would've done it in water. Especially if it was on the 13th /14th or so and the place wasn't yet swarming with searchers.

Or he happened to be a little away from his belongings and then ran into a predator (animal).

Thoughts?
I was thinking maybe he did this near the water knowing how the water rises possibly after going to the park so often. If he knew a place that would conceal his body maybe he went there, did whatever he did and the rising water came after. Just thinking as we go…

<modsnip>. People here cared. Why does there have to be a reason for the discussion to continue? If people have questions, we are allowed. Same with thoughts and emotions. That doesn’t minimize the spotlight that should be on Gabby in any way, Imo. Grief can touch many people and online forums can be communities. JMO.

As far as the notebook is concerned, that was found outside of the dry bag and forensics is working to dry it out before attempting to open it.

On Wednesday, investigators also found a backpack and a notebook belonging to Laundrie, 23, near the remains while they were searching the Carlton Reserve in North Port, according to FBI Special Agent in Charge Michael McPherson.
"The notebook to my understanding has not been opened. You know, that will need to be processed," Taylor said.
A source with knowledge of the investigation told CNN the notebook is "possibly salvageable." The source said the notebook was "outside of the dry bag."
"It had been clearly wet and they are going to use any potential means to dry that out before opening it," according to the source, who added: "They'll be very careful with it."
The source said it is unclear how the notebook ended up outside the dry bag.
When Taylor was asked about whether a weapon was found, he said he could not comment.
When asked if there is an ongoing search for the murderer of Gabby Petito, he responded, "That is certainly not in the North Port Police Department's purview."

I have actually read that many people who die by suicide appear "happy" before they quietly go. That they have made their mind up about their intention, and are comfortable with it.

Perhaps there is an element of wanting to have the final alive moments with their family be 'good' ones.

imo

Aiding and abetting a fugitive. That's why I believe his mother went to the ATT store and bought him another phone, also they went "camping" with him and only they returned.

I'm not suggesting there's any grounds for a suit, just sharing something they said on the news as I found it interesting. As we all know, a civil suit can be filed even on the shakiest grounds... on Banfield yesterday, they were saying that it would be hard to file a suit against BL's family if he's dead (& we now know he's dead). But, it was suggested Gabby's family may want to do something like that for the discovery, to depose the family & find out what, if anything, they knew or did. The guest argued that it could perhaps provide some closure & accountability. JMO

On what grounds?
Not being snarky.
I truly don't know what the Ls can be sued for in civil court.

To keep himself from being found, to be eaten by alligators. The dry bag was found in some underbrush is what I keep reading (across a little path or road from where LE found BL - and the officer told the parents they might not want to come over to that other place, where the skeleton and the backpack were - but we don't know the positioning yet).

I think he wanted to completely disappear from the planet, to erase all evidence of his own existence, which is normal reaction to intense shame and guilt.

I think if he killed himself, he would have made sure the notebook was safe within the white dry bag. Unless it was, and someone else took it out. Having the note book outside of the bag makes his death seem more like some animal getting him, or as someone said last night he could simply have stepped into a hole.

Thank God they managed to identify the remains positively so quickly.
