Why would someone implicate themselves in a kidnapping and murder if they didn't do it? Jason Autry told what he told and he was right there when HB's body was transported and he's the one who pointed out she was still alive. He is part of her being murdered.
So he comes into court, he tells exactly that, he implicates himself in her murder. Of course he was believable. No one (sane) sits in court and claims they were part of a murder if they weren't.
