Zellner Tweets

Asked whether she and her team have identified suspects in the case, Zellner says yes—and that they are all men who knew Halbach. “We have a couple. I’d say there’s one, leading the pack by a lot. But I don’t want to scare him off, I don’t want him to run,” she says, explaining why she won’t say more.

Not really buying this, "reason". Saying "We know who you are" is sending the same message to the killer. "we're on to you". and where would he go, exactly, if she, "scared him off"?

(If I did it, and KZ said, "we know who killed her", but she didn't use the name "Safeguard"... that would be enough to scare me, I would think!).

Yeah not sure what her strategy is with that? Maybe thinking the killer in question will come forward and admit to the crime as has happened in other cases like the Riley Fox case.

I would think she have to wait for the results of the testing before naming anyone, so why not just say that?

"That is what made them suspects also."?? Ummm... Yeah... ok. It wouldn't make them witnesses against him or anything. That Steve Avery guy truly IS an evil genius. I never would have thought of that.

Well he is evil, but not a genius. Funny when he tried to blame the murder on his brothers in his 2009 motion for a new trial, he did use it against them. So...

I think from what i saw of Ms. Zellner and what she said i think she already knows who it is but has to get all her information completed before submitting it. That will be her next step. The other test results could take 2-3 mnths. before being completed.

I don't think i would be relying too much on detecting EDTA from blood samples lifted for forensic testing because of the dilutions involved and because of the miniscule amount of EDTA in a vial used to preserve the sample. IMO it's junk science.

If the tests come back showing EDTA is present do you feel that Zellner would be wrong in saying it meant LE planted the blood because it's "junk science"? Or is it "junk science" only if no EDTA is detected?

If science is correct about EDTA testing then my take is it doesn't matter what comes back because it should never have been admissable evidence if it's so unreliable. Unless some new whiz bang new and recent scientific testing has now been developed, which i have no idea about? So i think there should be other indicators as to SA's innocence if that is the case. All IMO.

I think for myself the bigger question would be was there any other way SA's blood could of been obtained for "planting" in the Rav4 vehicle other than having had it come from a vial of his blood that has been held in evidence? He did in fact have a fairly bad cut on his finger didn't he? That would of yielded blood not contained in a vial and if he had of discarded bandaids or whatever he used to stop the bleeding could that fresh blood of his been lifted from something else and a bit of water added to it if dried to make it liquefy again to plant?

SA's blood in TH's SUV is devastating evidence for SA. If proof of planting cannot be achieved then SA doesn't have a good chance for exoneration (IMO).

I also think that the fact SA's blood was in TH's vehicle would of also yielded his fingerprints from her car also. How would his blood be in the vehicle anyway? From the cut on his finger, a nosebleed, lol? If he was wearing gloves then there wouldn't have been any of his blood in there. And if he cleaned off his fingerprints which i doubt very much because you can't see fingerprints with the naked eye, & then why leave the blood evidence if he meticulously cleaned up afterwards?
Can't have it both ways, and both ways don't make sense. So what part of SA's body was the blood in the Rav4 from?

It's been speculated many times, that he wore gloves, and it just leaked through.

Personally, my money's on the blood in the evidence vial...

Oh...and it wasn't the producers of MAM that gave me this impression, (even though they brought it to my attention), it's the behavior and trustworthiness of Manitowoc LE...

I doubt very much the blood would of leaked through a glove IMO. What type of gloves would he have used i wonder? I also agree with your take on the Manitowoc county LE, but i don't think all of them would of been in on it maybe just a couple of them. It only takes a couple of rotten apples to spoil the whole lot. And if i'm wrong i'm sure there will be plenty of crow pie to go around, :)

My thought on that is he did not wear gloves but he did hold onto something (like a rag for instance) to keep his fingerprints from being left, but that rag did not cover the top/side of his hand and with the cut on the side of his finger, if he bled it was possible for blood to drip/smear without him leaving fingerprints. Gloves are not the only way to avoid leaving one's fingerprints.

To my knowledge, not a single one of them spoke up, when the sanctity of that investigation was breached. Time and time again. Just unholy, (sorry Pam!).

Good point Safeguard. So a whole barrel of rotten apples then.

Good grief. Those petitions were drafted by Steven's lawyers, not by him individually.

Or he was never in that vehicle?

I remembered he told someone she hadn't shown up but I couldn't remember who it was. Thanks Limaes.

So it must be true because you both remember? I thought you only used verified facts in forming your opinions
