"To be honest", "Absolutely", "As a matter of fact", "Truthfully", "You know", "Honestly",
All......a precursor to the "mistruth" to follow. Many answers are "yes", "uh huh", etcc.....when you qualify your answer before you give it....you are trying to create validity to your statement. I am not a psychologist, psychiatrist, mental health professional, or a linguistics expert........but I can tell when someone is trying to appear honest. My son has said on more than one occasion....."Mommy, how do you know these things?"...My answer........I was a kid, I lied, I covered, and best of all...."I REMEMBER". The fewer the words.....the better. Carp....I could convince my DH, or kids that we have had an entire conversation that never took place. The one that speaks first or MORE....loses!!!!! Perhaps JB will now contact me for these life lessons that he failed to memorize.
