Travis Rodrigues, 41, made an appearance via Zoom from the Halawa Correctional Facility, where he is being held on a $2-million bond. He has been in custody since February 2021 after he allegedly confessed to beating Kytana Ancog to death.

[...]

According to court documents, Rodrigues’ attorney Walter Rodby asked the court for a mental evaluation in August. The court granted the motion for Rodrigues to be examined by three doctors to determine if he was fit to proceed.

One report submitted to the court Thursday shows Rodrigues is fit to stand trial. However, one doctor could not complete an interview and the other refused to participate. As a result, Rodrigues’ hearing is adjourned until the doctors comply.

[...]

A massive search for the 18-month-old's body conducted by Honolulu police has been fruitless. Rodrigues claims he does not know where her body is located.

You're welcome. Have you ever heard of a doctor refusing to participate in a court-ordered mental evaluation? That is a first for me. Seems rather odd. MOO
I'm sure there is a backstory, hope we learn the details.

Eighteen-month-old Kytana Ancog’s smiling face is probably the youngest among a sea of missing children’s photos posted inside the entryway at Kaahumanu Hale, the courthouse where justice for the toddler is being sought.

A judge dismissed the hindering prosecution charge against Scott Carter and canceled his trial, which was scheduled for this week.

Prosecutors said they were delayed in gathering evidence because the girl’s father, Travis Rodrigues, was uncooperative.

The state can still file new charges later.

Man accused of killing daughter refuses to appear in Oahu court

Travis Rodrigues, who confessed to killing his 18-month-old daughter, Kytana Ancog, on Feb. 4, 2021, refused to participate in a court hearing Thursday to determine whether he is mentally fit to stand trial for second-degree murder, the second time he has defied the court's order to appear.

Oahu Circuit Judge Christine Kuriyama said the court was informed Rodrigues would not go to a Halawa Correctional Facility hearing room to participate in the hearing, which was held via video teleconferencing. Kuriyama waived his presence and rescheduled the hearing for Nov. 1, noting that one of the doctors had not completed her report yet.

[...]

On May 19, Rodrigues refused to be taken to the hearing room at Halawa, where he is being held awaiting trial. A hearing rescheduled for July 14 was continued to Thursday. [Sept 29]

Thanks @PommyMommy for the update.

Seems like refusing to participate is working well for Rodrigues? I mean really, this is how we handle an inmate refusing to appear at court hearings?!!

The man who confessed to killing his 18-month-old daughter, Kytana Ancog, in 2021 was apparently trying to delay trial when he repeatedly refused to meet with a three-member panel of mental health professionals.

Dennis Donovan, one of the three examiners, found that Travis Rodrigues' unwillingness to participate in interviews is not due to a "compromising mental disorder, " but seems voluntary, Circuit Judge Christine Kuriyama read.

The judge found Rodrigues fit to proceed to trial on the charge of second-degree murder in the Feb. 4, 2021, death of his daughter, and ordered proceedings to resume before Judge Rowena Somerville. She set trial for Jan. 2 and reinstated his bail at $2 million.

All three examiners found Rodrigues mentally fit to stand trial, despite months of delays mostly because of Rodrigues' failure to participate in assessments.

This guy has wasted far more time and energy than he's worth
Hopefully there's a trial soon and we won't ever hear of him again. Sadly I don't think Kytana will ever be found.
