I suspect this is the reason there will be two trials - one for each in separate locations. In the beginning they both confessed, although Spears said he blacked out and didn't remember for almost a week. I bet their stories have changed considerably since the DP is indeed on the table. Seriously - the two trials tells me they both have blamed the other - otherwise they could effectively try them together. Both are going to be found guilty and both will get the DP IMO.

I think there is a reason for them to remain on this earth - to SUFFER. Death is too easy. They need to live everyday in fear like this poor little girl did.

If convicted, both will be sent to Potosi. Missouri ended the utilization of segragated death row housing in late 2001. They will be among the population, I suspect the fear may well be palpable. They will have at least 5 to 6 years minimum to recall while they are there.

Chris Collings will be in court on Monday November 3 in Phelps County, Mo. Will post on the outcome of the hearing, am not sure right now exactly what it is about.

On a sad note - Monday will also be the one year anniversary of when Rowan went "missing". Rest in peace little one - justice will be served soon.

Both of the jailed ones will be in court today. Spears in Waynesville and Collings in Rolla. The hearing concerns the collection of hair samples from both.

The girl's Mother more than likely would have definitely prevented this if she had a thought it could have happened - I seriously doubt she wanted any of this. I'm not much for blame except for those arrested. If this Mother had some clue of the future - she will suffer dearly for it. Quess I don't understand this condemnation of the girl's Mother without a knowledge of the circumstances...seems petty to me.

I'm not sure if this has been discussed on here - I read all the posts but may have missed it. One of the articles in the links refers to Rowan's older sister(s) telling their mother that she/they were being abused (when they were younger) and that the mother said to keep it quiet and stop "lying". And that the sister(s) has left home because of this. I'll look up the exact article when I have time and post the link...

I had a college roommate whose older stepbrother raped her when she was 12-13. She told her mother and her mother slapped her across the face and told her not to ever lie like that again.

"David said he came in, checked Rowan's room and found she was gone," Copeland said. "He said he knew Chris had gotten her and taken her to his house. He got there, and Chris was raping her. He raped her too. Then they thought they would be in trouble, so they killed her and threw her in a hole."

One scenario is that the Spears had been sexually molesting her for awhile but doing so gently enough (well, as gently as possible with a 9-yr-old...:furious so that there would not be alot of physical damage and that Rowan would not be scared enough to tell. But when Collings got ahold of her that night, he may have not taken the same precautions (since it wasn't *his* wife that would be told) and hurt her much more than Spears. At that point, they realized there was no turning back... :furious:

This isn't the one I read previously but it refers to it, I believe. This may be a rumor and I do not want to help spread unfound rumors, but I was wondering if anyone else had heard about this?

I have read this rumor on a few sites, including one where the poster indicated that she was the older sister named here. I have not seen anything that corroborates the report itself.

I think the whole case is almost beyond belief. I am still waiting to hear if they charge the police officer who found her.

Ok fill me in why would the police officer be charged, I didn't see that part....most of the old links to papers don't work anymore. I sure hope these two get death for what they did to this little one!!!!

I TOTALLY agree with you Believe~ I have thought this from the beginning and was ignored in the first thread. There is NO WAY possible that deputy would have know exactly which one, and WHERE to look axactly- I heard it was tricky terrain and hard to get to. You would have had to have knowledge of where to go.- BTW- Great sleuthing- I had no idea he was arrested for sodomy- I would think they would WANT to take a CLOSER look, IMO. I am going to google him now and see what else I find.

After at least 2 reschedulings, Boles' trial is set for 3/17/09. I don't know whether any of the internet talk is true, but I will say that it seems to me that much of the local speculation seems to be based on the entry at Dreamin' Demon.

The facts are that he did find Rowan's body in a sink hole where he says he used to play, and he is accused of sodomy...the victim being a child.

Beyond that, it is difficult not to think on these two facts and wonder if Rowan fit into any of this. I mean, was this the only sinkhole in town? On top of that, it will be interesting to see how the sexual assault charge plays out. JMO.
