NC - Laura Ackerson, 27, Kinston, 13 July 2011 #9

The appeal for GH was not denied (yet). This is just the state's brief in response to the defendant's. Those are just the first steps in the process. Next move will be oral arguments in front of a 3 judge appellate panel. After that the appeal's court will decide (which takes about 5 months after oral arguments).

And Young's conviction was already overturned by the appeal's court and the state filed an appeal to the appeal. The NC Supreme court has decided to hear the case and that will occur sometime in the coming months, maybe spring 2015.

Here's how the appeals process works in NC:

Yikes. I got carried away by the headline and apparently didn't grasp the first paragraph. I thought the "State" was the court. Yep, you're right Mad74.

From Jewels link above:

The case is expected to go before the Court of Appeals at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday and will be carried live on WRAL.com. Oral arguments before the court typically last about an hour.

It's amazing that he and his wife thought they could get away with it. The reasons for appeal are ridiculous.

Yeah, he had his day in court. Ridiculous to think any of the stuff he mentioned prejudiced the jury - the rest of the evidence was so overwhelming.

I saw Oxygen did a show on the case? I'm going to have to try and find it. Killer Couples or something episode 401 I think.

The episode mentions this little scandal, which somehow I never saw: http://www.wral.com/wake-detention-...-inappropriate-inmate-relationships/13494204/

I still think of this case: Beautiful Laura and her brave fight for little Grant and Gentle. She loved them so much, I hope they grow up knowing that.

Oh my oh my. I really, really hope his conviction sticks. Way too many wife killers in NC getting new trials lately.

Appeal for Grant Hayes denied!!!

Just curious why news about Grant Hayes has been put in the Amanda Hayes thread when GH has his own thread?

It was noted several months back that our GH trial thread was closed. We've been talking about GH here for a little bit, iirc? Is there another GH thread that I don't know about? This was our final GH trial thread:

I pray Texas goes hard on her, she deserved to get life just like her heathen X.

They should also be charging her for illegal dumping of hazardous chemicals. They have pictures of her doing it!
