Circumstances of Discovery
The victim was located on June 16, 1987 in Toledo, Ohio, near Interstate 75. Her burning body was found in an alley near Detroit Avenue and Collingwood Boulevard.

The woman was wrapped in a tan tweed carpet and a pool cover, thrown into a bunch of weeds behind an abandoned auto body shop, and doused with gasoline. A passing motorist found her body, which was charred and decomposed beyond recognition. She probably died of a cocaine overdose several days earlier. The body showed no signs of trauma or injury besides those caused by the fire.

Authorities believe those who were with her panicked and dumped her body, but investigators haven't ruled out homicide. Investigators had searched the area extensively, including the weeds and roof of the body shop. They interviewed neighbors. They tried to match their Jane Doe with women missing from other states.

Holy Moly. Anybody volunteering to give this young lady a better recon? The clay composite strikes once again...it looks like a young Boris Becker.

No matter how they look, a couple of the older clay models have been spot on, though. So much so, I don't know how the unidentified's family didn't recognize them. Winston Richard Morris of Barre, Vermont, comes to mind.

I am not saying they do not have any legitimacy and it is one of the oldest forensic art techniques used since the 19th century. Many institutions use them even today (i know it from an archeological context, museums still use them a lot today).
But the 1970s and 1980s clay recon have a very specific odd look to them, not sure if it was the type of clay used back then or what it is...they all tend to look sort of wrinkled or mummified... you need to really break down the features to a bare minimum in your mind to be able to make a connection. The modern clay recons do so much better.

Yes, some of the older clay models do look odd, for sure, and could probably use some updating. I just wanted to point out some of them, no matter how they look, were spot on. The Winston Morris one surprised me how accurate it was. You could tell it was definitely him, making me shake my head over how no one recognized him, considering friends and family were mere hours away.

That happens with recognizeable UID as well or with computer recons... sometimes the right connections are not made for various reasons.

The WM clay is a bit caricature like and bumpy but indeed pretty spot on in summing up his features.

Sometimes a couple of hours away might as well be Mars...seems like information just doesn't travel well. Unlike gossip and misinformation, which flies at the speed of light. :p

I would be willing to, but I'm not sure how I would get access to photos of the skull.
