Imagine Chambers and Harvey's reaction to this news

and then think of the families' reactions.
'BREAKING: Cheshire Constabulary says it is carrying out an investigation into corporate manslaughter at Countess of Chester Hospital, where baby killer Lucy Letby carried out her murders.'

Will Paul Brand be off to the Dordogne soon? No, see second tweet

Paul adds
'Given the investigation we should be careful what we say, but this of course follows claims made in the media about how management handled concerns raised about Lucy Letby at the time of her crimes.'

and has attached CPS statement on this

Police are investigating possible corporate manslaughter at the hospital where child serial killer Lucy Letby worked.
The former nurse, 33, was found guilty in August of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill six others at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
Letby will spend the rest of her life in prison after being sentenced to a whole life order.

"Hospital bosses release statement after police launch corporate manslaughter investigation at Countess of Chester following Lucy Letby murders.

Jane Tomkinson OBE, acting chief executive officer at the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said:

'We were deeply saddened and appalled at Lucy Letby's crimes when the verdicts were delivered.

Following the trial we have always maintained we will be supporting the ongoing investigation by Cheshire Police and will be cooperating fully with the investigation announced today so that we can help get the answers that the families and babies affected by this case rightly deserve.

Cheshire Police have given us their assurance that they are providing ongoing support to the families, who remain at the forefront of our thoughts and efforts to support this investigation.

It would not be appropriate for the trust to make any further comment at this time'."

'Elements of the Offence

The following needs to be proved:

  1. the defendant is a qualifying organisation;
  2. the organisation owed a relevant duty of care to the deceased;
  3. there was a gross breach of that duty by the organisation;
  4. the way in which its activities were managed or organised by its senior
  5. management was a substantial element in the breach; and
  6. the gross breach of the organisation’s duty caused or contributed to the death'

kind of related ( whistleblower theme)

'Exclusive: Leaked internal document lays bare concerns of ‘toxic’ issues within watchdog that mean whistleblowers’ warnings are ignored — and the public put in danger — in disturbing echoes of Lucy Letby case, writes health correspondent Rebecca Thomas

Nurses and midwives accused of serious sexual, physical and racial abuse are being allowed to keep working on wards because whistleblowers are being ignored, a damning new report has found.

Staff are too scared to report their concerns to the nursing regulator because of a “culture of fear” within the watchdog, documents seen by The Independent reveal.

One whistleblower, speaking to this publication, drew parallels with the Lucy Letby case, accusing the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) of being defensive and trying to protect their own reputation.

They claim “deep-seated toxic conduct” within the NMC is leading to skewed and failed investigations.

A review of NMC guidelines was launched after The Independent highlighted concerns earlier this year by speaking to staff who complained that the NMC was leaving nurses accused of sexual assault and domestic violence free to work unchecked. '

( some of the allegations at the link would be criminal matters)

It wouldn't be a problem if there was personal accountability of managers.
Then, everybody would try to get rid of rotten apples.

In theory.. surely there's a strong case for the latter cases
couldn't you make the case for July 2015 onwards? ( thinking back to eg what Stockport Trust did over Chua. very prompt, iirc. ( paired work and cctv within days)

'

2 July 2015 ( after Child D)

Dr Stephen Brearey, the head consultant on the neonatal unit, carries out a review of the three unusual deaths in June 2015. ... the director .... is told that Letby was the only nurse on shift for each of the deaths, the trial was told. Letby remains on the neonatal unit.'

allegedly/ JMO/IMO /LOLO
(I've removed a name and added ellipses instead)

if not July,

'23 October 2015 ( after Child I)

Dr Brearey becomes increasingly concerned following the death of Child I. Another staffing review finds Letby was present at more unusual deaths. Another consultant, Dr Ravi Jayaram, alerts management to their concerns but is told “not to make a fuss”. Letby remains on the neonatal unit.'

Possibly yes .. it would be interesting to see where the cut off point would be based on reasonable response

I REALLY wish DE would stop giving interviews.
It makes me so uncomfortable.
I feel he would be contacted if he was saying anything out of line, being that he is familiar with many of the police overseeing the investigation and the prosecution team, from his time in court. He's not saying anything that wasn't already said by the "gang" of consultants in the media after her conviction. Only evidence directly relating to baby K is sub judice, her appeal won't be affected by anything published. The jury in her new trial will know she has been convicted.

I think it's bad that the reporter doesn't disclose that one of her key sources was accused, by Judge Goss just a few months ago, of a ' flagrant and serious contempt of court.... you are liable to arrest and at risk of imprisonment'
The whole thing about him and his arguments that it's a miscarriage 'cos "bad statistics" is flawed anyway. She was not convicted on the statistical evidence.

We had nine months of evidence and the apparent rise in mortality was barely even touched upon. I think what people seem to have in their minds is that the very early news reports, and some still today, tend to give the false impression that the whole investigation started because someone at the hospital "noticed" a rise in mortality. That's a total red herring but it's become the leading "fact" as to the origin of the case.

The investigation was started because people were noticing, anecdotally, that Lucy Letby was always nearby when babies had sudden unexpected collapses or died. Lucy Letby was in the frame right of suspicion from the outset but the hospital and police were never going to say we think we might have a serial killer on staff.

Even if someone proves that the "rise in mortality" was entirely flawed and worthless it would make no difference because a) it was never significant in her conviction and, b) there is a multitude of other far more compelling evidence which she was convicted on.

Lucy letby seems to hav made friends after all. shauna hoare who was involved in the murder of Becky watts. Murder of Becky Watts - Wikipedia

also another individual convicted of murdering her baby.

interesting article actually.

“Despite the killings, a source claims Letby got on well with staff at the category A prison where she had been held on remand.

They said: “She became really chummy with one of the nurses who came round to give prisoners their daily medication. They’d talk at length about different pills and stuff – which we found very strange. And she was also allowed her laptop in her cell to work on her case.”
