VA - Boy, 6, in custody after shooting teacher, Newport News, Jan 2023 *mom charged* #3

“After the indictments by a Newport News special grand jury were unsealed Tuesday morning, Parker turned herself in to police about 2 a.m. Wednesday morning. She has been released on a $4,000 bond pending trial, and showed up at Thursday’s hearing in a gray pantsuit.

Circuit Court Judge Matthew W. Hoffman advised Parker of the eight indictments, telling her each charge is punishable by one to five years in prison. When asked about her plans for a lawyer, Parker told Hoffman that she has hired Curtis Rogers, a Hampton attorney, to represent her.

Parker’s next court appearance has been scheduled for May 17 in front of Circuit Court Judge Gary Mills.”

Gwynn told 10 On Your Side’s Andy Fox that the report speaks for itself, and that the evidence is crystal clear.

“I am also confident that the people who read the report were troubled when they read the section by the parents and guardians,” Gwynn said. “Because, as you know from the report, a number of parents of the students from Mrs. Zwerner’s classroom asked that their children be transferred to another school. And I’m sure that some of you thought that the only victims was Abby, but when you read that section, you knew there were other victims.”

Gwynn went on to state the report was made public to ensure everyone, from administrators to students, had a chance to be heard.

Parker attended an attorney advisement hearing at 10 a.m., where she stated she understood the eight charges against her.
Press conference held for former Richneck Elementary assistant principal charged with felony child abuse

A special grand jury report outlines Parker's alleged actions on the day of the shooting. Some of the allegations included in the report are as follows:

  • Parker ignored multiple warnings from various staff members, including Zwerner, that the child had a gun. She also ignored reports about his behavior being out of line.
  • The day of the shooting, Zwerner went to Parker's office to tell her the child was in a violent mood. Parker did not acknowledge Zwerner or look up from her computer.
  • Parker was standing outside of her office when someone came into the main office saying someone had been shot. Parker went into her office, shut the door, and remained there until police arrived.
More details on the grand jury's report can be read here.

Sounds like she had it out for Zwerner imo.

Just as I expected, the Commonwealth Attorney has taken over the investigation and working directly with the school board, NOT law enforcement.
I do believe many more could have been charged, should have been charged, this Commonwealth's attorney has tried to protect these individuals from day one.

Key point... No one can be charged with obstruction of justice at this point it's past the deadline.
Reporter asked why wasn't she charged with 15 counts of child neglect since there were 15 students in the classroom.

Now let's talk about she could get zero days in jail.
A joke, this dude is more worried about protecting the school board and being re-elected.

So sad for the entire community, the students, the parents, and AZ.

Seems I'm not the only one who thinks there's a cover up. The grand jury recommends additional investigation, however, the Commonwealth's attorney said he'll be doing that with the school board. Who is the Commonwealth attorney trying to protect, his friends on the school board and in administration? I do believe he ask for and delayed selecting a special grand jury, so some would avoid prosecution due to time limit.

10 On Your Side asked if they are alleging a cover up, which the special grand jury wants to be continued investigated.
Both attorneys spoke about what appears to be cover up in the special grand jury report.

“There is a volume of information that should be maintained and kept, and so that investigation full and complete and transparent, and that does not seem to have taken place,” Biniazan said.

She is being temporarily held at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail in Suffolk until the federal prisons bureau assigns her somewhere. The judge ordered Taylor go directly to jail because she failed several drug tests while she was on federal pre-trial services.

The AG is NOW "handling" this? Well, there goes the hope of a full and complete and transparent investigation.

I'm sorry it's the local Commonwealth's attorney.

I fired off a letter to the State Attorney General today over the involvement of the local Commonwealth's Attorney, requesting she look into the delays and why some were not charged initially, especially the obstruction of justice. There are many that cannot be charged due to one year time limit. You know the State Attorney General had to intervene last time to get DT charged.

The NN COP turned over everything to the local Commonwealth Attorney, he 6 months before calling a grand jury knowing good and well the ramifications of a delay. He had an opportunity and did review any and all documents, could have issued initial charges without a special grand jury and all these delays.

The grand jury certified the charges back in March. Did the local Commonwealth's Attorney delay the arrest, in order to have a judge that would be sympathetic? We shall see.

Our State Attorney General is very transparent, charged school officials and School Board representative, when the local Commonwealth Attorney refused, in a different locality. Yeah, she's a spitfire, when it comes to the schools.
