BEL AIR, Md. — It was a DNA dead end.

That's how Dr. Kristen Mittelman described Rachel Morin's murder investigation.

"A lot of the times these perpetrators are not in the database, as in this case. Victor was not in the database," she recalled in an interview with WMAR-2 News' Elizabeth Worthington on Tuesday.

I just saw this on the Othram site...... tingles actually going down my arms. How OUTSTANDING is this???

so we still don't know how they were able to identify him? they linked him to another crime but his DNA was not in the database so they had video of him from that crime but no identity

did someone tip them off as to who he is or did Othram find his relatives through DNA and they identified him?

I just love reading and learning more and more about Othram.

But I wish they could/would be able to better identify just HOW and WHO they tracked to Tulsa.
They wouldn't have to provide names... but clearer details would just be so helpful.

The Morin family’s attorney Randolph Rice said Hernandez is due to be hauled in front of a judge in Hartford County after being extradited from Tulsa and is scheduled for a bail hearing on Friday, with the case to be presented to a grand jury.
Hernandez is handcuffed and escorted by police

Authorities said Hernandez entered the US illegally in February 2023, and was known to be affiliated with violent street gangs in El Salvador, where he is suspected in the murder of another woman.

So his family members who he lived with in Maryland for six months, didn’t put two and two together I guess. At keast until LE came knocking. I think we have an explanation on how they came to know he was in Tulsa though.
Strange thing is, according to the charging statement, Hernandez had been staying with his family members in Maryland from December of 2023 to May of 2024. This was several months after Rachel was attacked and murdered in August of 2023. Where was he staying in early August of 2023 if he wasn't with those family members?

My thought is oerhaps at that time he was in Virginia? Maybe he was visiting the family when Rachel was killed? Wish we knew what city the family lives in.

SUCH important new facts........
Hernandez’s family members told detectives he had been staying with them from December 2023 until May 2024.

Did he got a heads up and help to get to Tulsa...

Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez’s relatives turned over two bags of clothes and a pair of shoes that he left behind at their Maryland home after he took off in the wake of raping and killing Morin, 37, on Aug. 4.

Where was he right before the murder of Rachel? Is family being totally truthful?
And where did he take off to in August and stay until December, if family is being truthful?

If family was right there in Maryland AND the videos in LA were broadcast everywhere, how could family not have known that was him>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Patty Morin knew her daughter Rachel had been killed on a trail near her home in Maryland. She had seen her body at the funeral. But 10 months after her daughter’s death, Morin tried not to dwell on what happened and she didn’t really want to know.

“Part of grief is living in denial. The pain is so great you don’t want to express it. Denial is a way your mind protects you from your pain,” Morin said

"Our suspect in the Rachel Morin homicide case was extradited here," Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler told 11 News. "It's just a routine matter of police work. We go out there, we send people out to Tulsa. The federal government, Homeland Security, provided the plane — that's why it landed at Martin. They flew our prisoner with our deputies, landing in Baltimore County."

Martinez-Hernandez waived his extradition hearing on Monday and remains held at the Harford County Detention Center pending a bail review at 1 p.m. Friday.

Court records show Martinez-Hernandez was held without bail over the weekend in Oklahoma as a fugitive from justice. He's charged with first-degree rape and murder after Morin's body was found on Aug. 6, 2023, along the Ma and Pa Trail in Bel Air.

"The investigators continue to work diligently to follow up on information we're learning, putting pieces together about what brought him here," Gahler told 11 News. "We have some ideas we're not going to speak about just yet. We have some ideas as to why he was here in this community."

Not sure we should jump to dishonesty on the part of his family, ultimately they did provide some items for DNA testing. Could they be afraid of being completely honest, I suppose so. They did a large outreach to the Latin community at large early on. But maybe this family honestly didn’t feel AH would have done something like that, so no suspicions on their part until LE knocks on their door.

Just some alternative thoughts as to why they didn’t report him. I may be way off base.

You are right...but I cannot go back to edit. (Im caught up listening to Nancy Grace on the Chelsea Grimes case. ha ha ha)
Anyway.... I wanted to just to declare a pessimism, that we often have to consider with perps who are on the run.

The suspected Salvadoran gang member accused of raping and killing a Maryland mom of five illegally snuck into the US three times in two months and was booted — before finally apparently eluding agents on his fourth try.

Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, 23, illegally crossed the southern border once near El Paso, Texas, in January 2023, a second time that same month in New Mexico and a third time again in New Mexico in February 2023, Department of Homeland Security sources told The Post on Monday.
It is necessary that they be deported to their country of origin to somewhat discourage crossings.
There is no point in these psychopaths being released from the Mexican side, because the next day they will try again. what sad times we had to live, so many tragedies everywhere

U.S. Homeland Security Police extracted Victor Martinez-Hernandez from the Tulsa County jail around 5:40am Central Time, according to Douglas Braff, a reporter with our sister station KJRH.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office is estimating Hernandez to arrive in Maryland closer to noon Eastern Time.

Hernandez will have his first bail review via Zoom from the Harford County Detention Center on June 21 at 1pm.

"The Judge will also assess the defendant’s prior court appearances, family ties, employment status, and community ties," said Morin family attorney Randolph Rice. "Additionally, the Judge will examine any safety concerns for the alleged victim, recommendations from the State’s Attorney, and the potential danger the defendant poses to the community. These factors collectively help ensure a balanced decision regarding the defendant's pretrial status."

oh he's a tiny little thing - have fun in prison precious

Early on, because investigators kept their findings to themselves, Patty Morin said that she and others didn’t have a sense of how hard they were working and how many people were doing so. Then, about four months into the case, there was a large gathering of family, volunteers and law enforcement to canvass areas in Bel Air to gather possible leads and see if anyone remembered seeing anything.

Afterward, Morin entered a room at the sheriff’s office with 30 to 40 other people, all of whom were playing a role in the case.

“I saw that this case was just as important to them as it was to me,” she said. “As this went on, I knew them to be fathers and mothers and husbands and wives, too. Rachel wasn’t just a folder on someone’s desk.”

VMH appeared by Zoom and requires an interpreter because he only speaks Spanish.

According to his public defender, VMH is a father to a three year-old girl and works to support her and his parents.

State's attorney Allison Healy said Rachel had 10-15 head wounds, was strangled and sexually assaulted.

She also revealed more about the homicide in El Salvador; she said that VMH and that victim were seen leaving a bar together the last week of 2022, and the body was found a few days later. However, VMH's attorney objected before Healy could reveal any more details.

VMH is expected back in court on July 18 for a preliminary hearing.

Here’s the booking photo for Victor Martinez-Hernandez, the 23-year-old suspect from El Salvador accused of killing Rachel Morin in Harford County.

He was denied bail today and is scheduled to be back in court on July 18 for his preliminary hearing.
If I saw VMH out on the street with his hair as depicted in this photo. I'd never suspect he was the guy on video or in the sketch. Thank God for DNA and all the LE agencies who never gave up on finding justice for Rachel and her family.
