Only thing I could think of was non lethal round ie rubber bullet/bean bag or possibly bolt gun think what they use on livestock just a guess
She was found up to a year after she was killed. They were probably working with skeletal remains, and if the bullet or shot was not present, they would have been guessing based on skeletal trauma and trace evidence from the bullet/shot to determine cause of death (gunshot injuries can leave metallic traces embedded in the bone even if the bullet or shot is not found - Radiodense bullet wipe around osseous entrance gunshot wounds - PubMed ).

Haslett, who is white, allegedly told the surviving victim that one woman had been killed with a gas mask and the other "died by electrocution" during a sex act, the probable cause states.
That sounds like some sort of fantasy he came up with, and told her to scare her more. Crosdale likely died from a gunshot. That doesnt match up to his story at all

Bbm
On the day Haslett was arrested, court documents show investigators executed a search warrant on his home.

Inside, investigators located numerous items of lingerie, items used for electronic storage, external hard drives and cell phones, among other things.

They also located numerous large blue barrels and a black gas mask.
So maybe he wasnt lying entirely... ughhh

He told the victim there were 2 others. I dont see why he would tell her a number lower than his actual total if he planned on killing her anyway
Why do these creeps do anything?

Franklin Delano Floyd told people that he'd killed Michael Hughes about six different ways, each terrible, sadistic, and horrendously cruel. And since they never found Michael's body, I'm not convinced ANY of the versions he told was actual truth.

Maybe Haslett only killed two people. Maybe he killed half a dozen, but wanted to see her reaction when he said two and described the methods he claimed he'd killed them by. Maybe he killed more than two but didn't want to talk about the others. Maybe he only killed one but was inflating the numbers to make her more scared.

Until we find the bodies, we won't know. And if we don't find them, or even if we do, depending on the state they're in, we still won't know for sure when the only living witness to their deaths is their killer.

Haslett is so mentally deranged that I wouldn't believe anything he says about anything at all. I only hope he was sloppy and left plenty of evidence in his home for LE to find, like the SD card of photos.

Incredibly disturbing and graphic details in the full probable cause affidavit, obtained by KMBC -- one of the most depraved things I've ever read.

Some of the non-graphic information in the probable cause statement:

- The victim reported Haslett used a gas mask on her (pg. 1)

- Among the items recovered by LE on October 7, 2022 were "numerous items of lingerie" in Haslett's bedroom and "an unsecured handgun with the hammer back and a round in the chamber" in the living room couch (pg. 2)

- "Among the several items of evidence that was collected at the residence, was a piece of paper that contained handwritten questions and answers that appeared to have been questions Haslett asked [redacted] followed by [redacted] answers." (pg. 2)

- "The dungeon, was outfitted with two interior security cameras in addition to a security camera that was located outside of the room and positioned towards a shower. The cameras appeared to operate wirelessly and a hard drive or other type of storage system was not located for the cameras. The cameras contained ports for secure digital cards, commonly referred to as SD cards, but none of the cameras were found to contain one. The only door to this room was secured by magnetic locks, similar to what would be seen inside of a business and an interior electronic key pad." (pg. 2)

"A confidential source (CS) was contacted and stated he/she believed Haslett began constructing the room in the basement in 2021." (pg. 2)

- Haslett's phone "contained saved images of Missouri River navigation maps." (pg. 3)

- Janie Crosdale's remains showed "both perimortem high velocity projectile trauma and perimortem blunt force trauma" and the barrel she was found in showed "an apparent bullet defect." (pg. 4)

It reads like he was videoing extremely violent xes stuff. It's difficult to know his son was living there at the time.

Last year, a Clay County grand jury indicted Haslett, who is now 41 years old, after a malnourished woman, wearing a collar locked around her neck, ran to a neighbor’s house and said she had been restrained in a man’s basement in Excelsior Springs. She said she escaped a room built to keep her confined while Haslett drove his child to school.

I wonder how she was able to escape.

He had a magnetic lock on the door and a keypad inside the room that controlled it. She broke the keypad and that unlocked the door. It's in the charging / probable cause statement posted up thread. Snippets from the statement below.

@mpnola apparently reports were made but it doesn’t appear that it was looked into seriously.. the woman who escaped and the one found deceased were taken from the same area. When she said her friend didn’t make it was the deceased woman the one she was referring to? It’s very likely they knew of each other.

a local bishop told the Kansas City Defender, a Black nonprofit online news outlet, that Kansas City Police had ignored reports of missing Black women from Prospect Ave., an area known for drugs and prostitution and where T.J., the woman who escaped, told police Haslett had initially picked her up.
