Yes, cows need a lot of water when it gets cold. More than in the summer heat. But it is warming up, back into the 20s and the coming week should be into the 30s. Hopefully the ranchers will start to have some time to get out and check the countryside. There is no snow, so that will help.

They must have been living in the vehicle. The nearest motel rooms open probably would be Miles City, Glasgow, or Bismarck and even those are not going to be affordable for a couple of out of work losers.

On old buck died in my shelter belt last fall. About a week later I decided that the rack might look interesting over the porch so I went out with a saw to get it. The entire dear carcass was gone, not a trace of it! OT: When I was in high school a friend and I found an unattended Cat at a...

There is a LOT of Federal land in the area, much more than most people realize. Starting near the confluence of the Yellowstone and Missouri rivers and down stream from there almost 100% of the bottom land is owned by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Much of the land in McKenzie County North...

If they stayed in the valley there would have been no shortage of dead trees, branches, and other debris. It's been a strange year. Last winter there was record snowfall not only in the Williston-Sidney area but throughout the entire Yellowstone River drainage basin. Consequently last summer...

Snow tires have deeper and wider treads than a typical tire, and chains would not prevent skid marks, however the marks would be distinctive. But there has not been any real snow this winter, and the weather had been unusually warm the weekend she was kidnapped. Temperatures had been in the...

That is an excellent description of the magnitude of the area involved and why a systematic search of everything is impossible. I'll just add that much of the land is owned by people who no longer live in the area. It's leased or rented by larger farmers. For example, I own land 200 miles from...

Farmers do not leave flags in their fields. If there is going to be construction the "Call before you dig" people will come in and mark the location of underground wires and pipes, but those do not look like that type of flag. They are markers left by LE.

All of that seems to have gone out the window once LE had the tip and the suspects were picked up. To me that suggests that LE has information indicating that these two idiots drover around for quite a while before they got rid of the body.

The ground is frozen for at least a foot, probably two. In a normal winter it would frozen to at least five feet. Several weeks ago I needed to dig a small hole in the yard. I had to use a pick to break up the ground. My shovels would not even put a dent into the dirt. This time of year the...

The sugar beet plant is the large facility on the northeast corner of town between the county road (Holly St) and the lake.

I heard it on one of the local radio stations. Perhaps someone misread or I misheard.

Nothing on the local news, but that is not unusual. The local media does not do a lot of reporting anymore. Also not unusual are people walking or hitch hiking between Trenton, ND and Poplar, MT. There have been some cold nights, so natural causes would not surprise me.

The total area of the counties in question is a little over 14,000 square miles. That is greater than the state of Maryland. But it is unlikely that she would be at the far end of some of those counties, so narrow the search to the area that they could have driven in an hour or so and you are...

That sounds very reasonable. It's possible they that do know where they went, but have not told LE. Perhaps whoever the tip came from only had general information. All we can do is make guesses.

I read at least one article which said that Waters was arrested in Williston on the 12th and Spell was detained in Rapid City on the 13th. I find it interesting that LE had Spell back in Williston on the 13th, yet there have been no reports out of Rapid City of any hearings. That indicates to me...

The ground is frozen. If they did actually bury her in the ground it would have required a lot of time and effort. They would need a pick ax as well as a shovel to dig a grave, and at least some minimal planning. What I found interesting is that LE has asked land owners as far away as Montrail...

Williston is my home town and when we were kids we used to drive to Sidney to get our beer (MT had 18 year old drinking). We would take the back roads on the way home, or have a kegger somewhere out in the bottom lands along the Yellowstone or Missouri. It was (and still is) such a maze of tree...
