As I've said before on this forum, there are two kinds of 'targeted': (1) targeted specifically to Tristan Beaudette and (2) targeted against Malibu Creek State Park. In the latter, the victim could have been anyone in the campground that night.
There's also the matter of the other shootings...
I have doubts about the existence of those alleged rumors. I never heard any of that during my time out there nor during subsequent follow-ups with various people (LE, locals, CPS). Not one person has ever expressed the idea that TB's murder was gang-related and not one person ever said they'd...
Maybe you can clear this up...
The Local reported the following:
Lost Hills Sheriff Department and Search and Rescue responded to the scene with multiple air and canine support as well as infrared technology. According to Matthew Sr., canines did pick up a scent but lost it before they reached...
Yesterday, the California State Parks Foundation was hosting a volunteer work day to 'improve and maintain campgrounds' at Malibu Creek State Park.
invitation on CSP Twitter
This seems awfully tone deaf although it's probably the work of a bot tweeting out pre-scheduled calendar items...
Just for context, I'm posting this history primer from the Topanga news outlet:
Murder in the mountains
There's one notable murder missing here, the 1979 murder of German teenager Marcus Grabs by the 'Freeway Killer' William Bonin. His body was dumped in the Malibu Canyon/Las Virgenes area...
From the local area's The Acorn:
Investigation mounts as another dead body is discovered in the area
And if murders and body dumps aren't enough for you, there's also a suspected animal mutilator active in the area:
Second report of animal mutilation in Agoura Hills
This would be a body dump. It's just off the 101 freeway, which makes it a convenient spot to leave a murder victim.
Body dumps have been going on in the area for a long time. Almost all of these are said to be 'gang-related', although in LASD-speak, that also means 'don't expect us to do...
I know that they do - or used to - in one of them. From what I was told, it sounded more temporary than permanent and it was for known people with an established reason (field studies, etc) to be in the park. The other one looked empty or possibly used for functions/events.
Not Matthew Weaver. Body found in a Simi Valley park.
Suicide suspected in man's death
The lack of news and leads must be so frustrating for MW's loved ones. And also condolences to those who knew the man in the news report.
There's the CPS staff - rangers, admin, groundskeepers, maintenance, program directors, etc. Then there's a revolving group of people - biologists, botanists, soil scientists, environmental scientists, GIS specialists, archaeologists, grad students and fellows in all of the above - who spend...
I can understand that thinking. If it was targeted, there'd be nothing to worry about now.
However, having visited the park and talked to staff, one big roadblock to reopening the campground would be having staff/volunteers there after dark. I was told no one stays overnight or after dark and...
And you've got the LAPD mixed up in that one as well. The following news story on the Richardson case is a head-spinner...
A very different story (Pasadena Weekly)
This is relevant to post here because it involves multiple LA LE agencies and sometimes we don't realize what a victim's family is...
<modsnip: snipped quote that was removed>
If your looking for motive, you can't dismiss out of hand the entire category of 'work-related'. <modsnipped> No one has suggested that. But just being realistic, there are all kinds of workplace issues that can lead to these incidents. Rivalries...
There's usually a non-compete clause in the pharmaceutical industry. Not sure how enforceable they are but I know they exist.
His work as glimpsed via LinkedIn (IIRC) indicated he was a formulations chemist in charge of a team of workers. It all looked very industry-standard, although he did do...
TB had left Allergan and according to a work colleague 'was excited to start his new job.'
What was this new job? We don't know. It's not mentioned anywhere except to say that he was headed for a new job/life int he Bay Area. His work colleagues don't appear to mention it as it has not been...
Yes. From the very beginning:
Lost Hills Sheriff Department and Search and Rescue responded to the scene with multiple air and canine support as well as infrared technology. According to Matthew Sr., canines did pick up a scent but lost it before they reached the road. Scent dogs and cadaver...
There's a little more about Matthew here:
Young man vanishes: Simi Valley native is missing
The younger Weaver, a native of Simi who recently moved to Granada Hills, also has a passion for rescuing animals and is extremely close with his brother, 17, and his sisters, ages 14 and 24.
Described...
