This one really intrigues me for the reasons Charlie noted. I grew up in the area around the same time, and I knew people who were into D&D and also related pursuits (notably the Markland Medieval Mercenary Militia--I think that's what it was called). I must be no more than two or three degrees...
Has anyone watched the Hulu series yet? It's very interesting. The director takes an unusual approach; some might find it too decentralized and meta, while others will find the wealth of footage and interviews, as well as the insights, fascinating. I'm in the latter camp. I've just watched the...
Is there any chance of a connection to the murder of Karen Douglas (same county, January 1981, also had a daughter)Missing Pieces: Can DNA, sketch help solve 1981 murder of young mom named Karen Douglas? | khou.com
For her to have been our lady, she'd have had to have lived under a different identity (or identities) for 26 years. I don't know whether that's plausible for our lady, but the idea of someone being missing a long time brings up some interesting possibilities. What if Jacqueline ran away...
I was top of my class but still had a crummy sense of direction. I guess they're painting her as a responsible young woman--which is fine, and believable, but 14-year-olds can get into a lot of trouble, especially these days. I feel like the stuff about the late buses is important somehow.
NPR's podcast "Embedded" has a series on the Capital shooting--or, more accurately, on its effects on the survivors at the paper (Embedded). The first two episodes are out now.
I had a friend in high school (coincidentally, probably around the time this photo was taken, though I'm sure this isn't her) who had cerebral palsy. Her left leg was shortened, and her left eye was very like this girl's. Just yet another possibility concerning her appearance.
Wake up, you old thread!
I just watched the ABC 20/20 segment on Alcala, and it got me wondering where I could find the most complete set of his photographs. I haven't looked at any in a while, but I remember there used to be two sets online and they had slightly different numbering systems...
I'm getting drawn into this since running across her yesterday. A site called Beach Party Movies says that Sue Williams / Sue Hamilton the Playmate is not the same (Karen) Sue (Levitt) Hamilton who died of suicide in 1969. So who's alive and who's dead? Was the Playmate the one who lived at 2465...
The age and some other details don't match, but I've been looking through missing files for Massachusetts, Maryland, DC, and now Virginia, and I just ran across this one.
Helen Irene Allison – The Charley Project
I knew her via The Writer's Center; she organized a project in which I participated. TWC is an extraordinary resource for the area's many writers and would-be writers. People not from around here don't always know the richness of the area in the arts. It's no wonder she was known by so many.
