From what we've been told, one could infer that DS confessed because the lawyer told him to. That seems problematic to me.

I assume as soon as the accused and the lawyer have that engagement (i.e. the police filling her in then discussing the situation with the accused), that lawyer has been retained. Maybe I'm wrong.

Hard to say. I'm guessing that he's full of ****, as he does end up confessing. So the whole "I don't remember doing anything" is a crock. And all this talk of "God" doing it...he had books on serial killers. That tells me he had a fascination with this stuff. Why would God tell him to read...

DS's "incoherent gibberish" and talking like there was a third person there could also very well have been drug induced as opposed to mental illness. His grandfather said he didn't want him around because of his drug and alcohol abuse.

Interesting theory. But I am inclined to think jealousy/unrequited love (or infatuation) in regards to Chy plays a role. "Hideous baby" maybe coming from his anger and resentment at what Terry and Chy had created together. Something he wanted for himself with her. MOO.
