Kapua, looking at the subpoena list just now, I see numerous state witnesses to come. Interesting that Mario (brother) is a state witness. Defense is recalling the Scott family and calling Jonny Pipkin, so I think one intent is to go after the evidence that was brought to the house. Defense...

Friday is a state holiday, Admissions Day aka Statehood Day, so no court. There might be protests at the courthouse though. It's a weird holiday because many Native Hawaiians don't want to be a state and dispute that statehood is even legal.

Hard to imagine Rivera would have her testify about this truck if it didn't match up. This would mean that SC left immediately after coming home Sat. Night, no? And only if he came in at the earlier part of Young's window of time 11:00--11:30. I am confused.

I dream of live stream ... Anything from Maui News? i remember there was a date I posted for the phone records, coming up soon. Anyone recall? Also the dentist is to testify as well as "the bug guy." The defense should not be presenting until state rests. Only reason I can think of possibly...

Yep, :) i'm having trouble with these times. For one, what does driving to Kahalui on Saturday morning have to do with anything? Sunday morning on the other hand ... Second, grandfather says Steven was home at 11:30 Saturday night, does he not?

Before I read, I just talked to my tool expert (lol, I have a son who lives to use the right tool for every job). I asked what the serrated side is for and he said, sawing branches. So when you are whacking your way through the jungle, sometimes there are small branches and stuff that you...

Yes. And think about how they described what they found. They found bones, not hunks of flesh with bone underneath. They only found flesh on the piercing (and obviously the fingertips.) So the flesh had been removed fairly thoroughly, and that takes care.

Oh, my bad, you are talking about just the top edge. But that would be awkward to invert and use instead of a knife. If you look at the handle, you can see the finger grips are only on the bottom with the smooth edge down. So if you are swinging the machete side to side or up and down against...

Huh, for some reason the last three replies didn't load when I opened the page, so I had missed them. So clearly there are a variety of machetes around the world, and probably in Hawai'i, but the garden variety here is not serrated, and I mean the garden part literally. Serrated blades are...

No, it has a uniform edge. The blade is slightly curved on your standard machete, but we also have a straight machete. I've been around many machetes here in Hawai'i over the years, and never have seen one that was serrated. Hunting knives, yes.

I guess it's too late to edit. I meant that he had had some access to a lump sum that may have been enough. He may also have spent it elsewhere. Also I am not up on the going rates for accessory to murder on Maui. Ice heads around Haiku probably come cheaper than professional hit men on the...

SC did have enough money to hire someone. He had borrowed $1200, and as Crabapple J noted back in 2014, SC still had a bald tire when he was searching. And the truck got repossessed. What did he do with his loan money?

He did not murder her with the machete though. The holes in her clothing were from a knife. Some of the holes were quite small. He did not defleshed her jaw with the machete either, IIRC on the testimony, because that blade was serrated. So that's two blades and a machete. While it is...

Agree, and I am on the side of premeditated murder -- with something unforeseen necessitating (in his mind) a hastily concocted alibi involving placing himself with her and within a certain proximity to the scene that was not originally intended. This need to improvise a story made him seem...

yes, I read Maui News, which places this on the 13th http://www.mauinews.com/page/content.detail/id/612727/Witness-offers-contradictory-testimony-about-truck-s-location.html?nav=10 It is disappointing to see that they are not both getting the dates right. Sigh. This stuff messes up timelines...

You should watch The Wire. ;-) There are people that you just don't call on your AT&T cell phone network. There are other ways to find people, like going to where they hang out, and arranging meetings, and there are non-contract phones that are easy to buy. It's interesting (to me) that the...

HGO, here's a source article on the shoes (flip-flops), found Friday, Feb 14, by searchers. I don't know what "some other valuables" refers to. This is the day that MPD did the grid search and found her remains. I had thought the civilian searchers were pulled out of that area on the Friday...

Well yes, but that's one set of friends we've heard from, who are good human beings and not all strung out or dealers. But it did he have some acquaintances who were in that other world? I've lived in Hawai'i for over 15 years now, and as nice and full of aloha as most people are here, the...

all it takes is a meth habit? There are actually Various Hawai'i murders where guys acting together have done stuff as bad as this in terms of dismemberment. In fact more of the bad ones were done by two or more acting together than not. I happen to think this murder was specially horrific...

Right, but you had Albert Young noted after that too, and that's what I was questioning. Cass does not actually know, does she? She was told by SC? But I see no real cause for doubt on this one.
