Bosma Murder Trial - Weekend Discussion #11

It could be that because of the case against his lawyer (Murray), the arrangement became public knowledge; the decision discusses Murray being paid by legal aid for representing Bernardo and that he purposely didn't bill legal aid for the copying of the video tapes so that prosecutors wouldn't...

They had an entire day of legal arguments yesterday to sort this out, though.

    Bosma Murder Trial 04.19.16 - Day 37

Maybe the crown is anticipating MS defence which could be that he was either 1) too ill or 2) too injured to participate. So they're controlling the evidence before it is raised later. e.g. here they tone down the idea that he was sick. Just an idea, all MOO. molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes...

    Bosma Murder Trial 04.13.16 - Day 34

I've lately been puzzling over the fact that in both test drives they didn't arrive in a car. I thought maybe there would be evidence that someone did drop them off. But we haven't heard any. So: How did they actually get there? And how did they get home from the first test drive? In both cases...

But DM was apparently charged with forcible confinement (before the charges were upgraded http://www.chch.com/110078/). In addition, in the crown's opening statement, the test drive is repeatedly referred to as an "abduction". (source...

    Bosma Murder Trial 03.31.16 - Day 28

So possibly it's the room mate who knew in advance about the plan to steal the truck? But now that we heard from the roomate(s) why didn't we hear about the plan to steal the truck?

    Bosma Murder Trial 03.31.16 - Day 28

I remember, but cannot find, the reference to a letter or other means that DM was trying to prevent a witness from testifying. Didn't he write a letter to CN to say something along those lines? Could it be SS, or is there someone else entirely? And if it is SS maybe that is why the cross began...

Or there was something on the farm that he was wondering if he would be able to gain access to again.

Right. And this duck looks like a LE team that is confident in the charges, not wavering from its original statements one bit, and a swift, massive and intensive investigation involving hundreds of individuals in various areas of LE. It doesn't even remotely look like anything else.

You may personally want a body or partial remains, but the medical specialists who have to make the declarations may have other ways to determine that a death occurred. That's their job. They've done their job here and we're not permitted to know at this time what the evidence was that led them...

Jury selection relies on the challenges that are available to each of the sides, each of them has a limited number of challenges available. A bit about this process is explained, along with some interesting juror selection techniques, in this article...

The bankruptcy was related to the company, and it was possible that the parents/grandparents were just going about their routine, outside that event. The bankruptcy process would, by its nature, likely be ongoing for some time. So why would regular life 'stop' during this process? (Particularly...

I agree with this. I know we are off-topic now, but this is a situation that cuts across geography, social class, economic class, everything. The inability for parents to get help and access to care for children with mental health issues is a heartbreaking, yet 'hidden', side of our (slipping...

What about the fact that they own the property on which he has been living, and which is now a crime scene? Or that he was using his father's (?) email address for business communication? So wouldn't LE have tried to determine what they might know, how involved they were in his finances, etc...

Trying to clarify the use of the identity theft versus identity fraud, this link seems helpful. It appears that he can just be in the process of acquiring the identification for the purposes of crime: What is Identity Theft? Identity theft refers to the preparatory stage of acquiring and...
