Most people in prison suffer from mental health issues so it’s certainly not a get out of jail free card. Mental illness does come into play when charging and sentencing though because it alters the intent and also the court does need to be notified of their issues so they can continue treatment...
Having watched back the show in light of the arrest I wonder if it was aired in conjunction with police to put the heat on the perp. Especially the in depth information about the phone and tracking capabilities of gps technologies etc.
To be fair, living so close to the scene where she may have disappeared and being fit and able bodied with a family known in the community it may have looked strange if he DIDNT partake in the search.
From what I can tell about the family from a cursory google search including the siblings they all seem relatively normal people. Nothing stands out. Which makes the whole thing even more peculiar and perplexing.
Why and how are the two biggest questions right now.
No one is questioning his demeanour. Calm down. People are expressing sympathy for him.
If anything anything he had to come under scrutiny even harder because as a tactic the police didn’t want to give away what they knew and refused to publicly rule him out.
He’s a very brave, courageous man...
Also my theory is that the police didn’t public rule MM out so the real perp would think he was either off the hook or it was a tactic by police for him to become complacent and relaxed if the possiblity of the husband was still up in the air.
Police probably have to be a whole lot more...
I think in situations like these people are trying to look for any clue. No one can absolutely be sure of anything and I don’t think people had accused with any certainty. But the fact he’s not a hysterical mess makes me have more sympathy in a way because it means he’s yet to properly grieve...
MM’s demeanour does not come across as someone who has lost a wife or whose wife has been missing. The only thing I can surmise is it must be shock and it hasn’t truly hit home for him yet.
I feel so awful for the family.
The longer this case goes unsolved the more intriguing and perplexing it becomes. Simply because one would expect that a woman going for a run on her own would either go missing from some misadventure or accident or some random person who’d kill or attack in the spur of the moment and leave...
For those interested there’s a really good doco on SBS on Demand about NSW child protection unit and how the caseworkers go about their day to day work. It’s called The Department.
I think after all these years just any motive would be something.
It’s not about an “acceptable motive” which is an abhorrent thing to say. The truth is more than enough.
What IS the truth? What would the motive be? A realistic one. Do the police even have one or are they just trying to rule...
Indeed. My boss is a solicitor who often takes on criminal clients. He wouldn’t give a rats who they were his job is to defend them and do the best job defending them. He considers all his clients innocent (which technically they are.)
You’d be surprised at what can happen in 5 mins. It really doesn’t take much to grab a kid and take off with them somewhere or even entice them with something. If it’s going to happen it’ll happen in under a minute.
There’s a show that’s been on recently about different styles of parenting and...
Some possibilities:
To rule it out completely (would police really take you seriously if you hadn’t even conducted a check around the property?)
To see if someone took him on a whim and left him nearby instead or committing to fully abducting him
To see if someone took him and had him in...
