Laptops are allowed in the courtroom but must operate on battery. I'm not sure what the mistrial comment is. This was a pretrial hearing not the trial. Maybe I am confused.

A slight correction SOTS :) We sat next to a reporter from InSession and she plugged her laptop into a power strip that was in front of us! I believe they have a few such power strips scattered about the courtroom just for this purpose. The media was allowed in first to set up and more than a few of them were 'plugged in' so to speak.

ETA: Sorry SOTS, had not finished reading the thread when I posted. You are correct, as usual :)

Well then weren't they lucky....
I guess they say that so that folks don't expect it. From what I have seen the OC Courthouse is very Visitor friendly.

Thanks to everyone who was in the courtroom and posted their impressions and thoughts. I greatly appreciate it!

I watched the live feed on WFTV but didn't watch the whole thing online. I missed the first part of Cindy's testimony and I didn't watch DP's testimony, Cindy's co-worker at Gentiva. I did watch all of Lee's testimony and I also saw the 10 minute break during Cindy's testimony. I watched part 2 and 3 of the hearing on WFTV (they've only got those 2 parts up along with the raw video footage of Casey walking into the courtroom..arrgghh..where's the rest of the raw footage -- there must be part 1 and a part 4 or 5?

During the 10 minute break it seemed like people were chatting it up and having fun. Is it really that light hearted when HHJP isn't there during the break?

I'm wondering if Casey ever turned around to face the gallery? Could anyone see which tooth/teeth she chipped?

If anyone who attended court watches part 2 and part 3 of the raw feed on WFTV, do you notice that Casey is looking at the camera in the courtroom quite a bit? Did you notice that while in the courtroom?

I was up in the balcony so could not see who/what KC was looking at. But you are right, during the break it was somewhat light hearted on the part of a number of people. that surprised me a little, we went from silence during the hearing to audible chatter and some laughter during the recesses.

during the girl chat recess, I saw Casey write something on a white piece of paper and the one young lady took it, turned it over and placed iton top of the notebook she was holding....I tried to watch where she went with it, but then the link I was watching just cut off......anyone else see this?

many thanks to those who attended today, and shared......

Yes, I saw that too but like you I have no idea what happened to that piece of paper.

This wasnt directed to me, but since I sat across from them, I can offer something. There was no affection or support from GA to CA. At one point CA was patting his knee and he just kept his arms crossed. At another point, his body was angled away from her. Interesting body language. He did not want to be there.

Cindy is trying to keep up appearances like patting George on the knee. George is beyond putting on an act for the sake of looking like they are united or happy together. I think Casey saying that about him molesting her did it for him. That came right on the heels of him supposedly having an affair.
I think that George was distancing himself before that though. I noticed him angled away from Cindy for quite some time now. I sit like that when I am shutting someone out that I don't want to see or hear. It speaks volumns.
I look for George and Cindy to split up and divorce sometime down the road.

Cindy looks much better in shorter hair. Just my opinion of course.

For those who went today - did anyone notice if Cindy tried to get KC's attention before she left? I swear I heard a woman whiper-yelling "Casey!" right as she was about to leave and then when CA is shown right after she looks very hurt (as if her daughter just totally blew her off). Any clarification?

you heard right and Casey didn't even acknowledge it although I'm sure she heard her. Casey was also angrily scribbling notes and tossing them to JB and CM the whole time CA was testifying.

I noticed LDB was standing right beside JB at the defense table showing him some documents. KC was so lost in her writing she didn't notice LDB could have seen the page laying on the table. I don't think LDB looked at it though, she was focused on the documents she was showing JB.

Could somebody please tell me why communicating devices are allowed in a court room even by attonery's?

Last year we went to a court room and no metal was allowed what-so-ever.

I cannot tell you how livid this makes me. I just hope in the end we will see at the very least that ICA is in prison for the rest of her life.

ETA:
Why are people allowed to come and go as they please while the hearing is in session?

With all the security in that court room you'd think they would handle a tight ship.

I was subpoenaed recently to testify as a witness in a DUI case a couple of weeks ago in my local County's court. I was absolutely appalled at the lack of "order in the court" during my day there. There were people dressed very very inappropriately, there were people talking the whole time during some of the cases. There were people in an out of the courtroom all day. There was lots of noise out in the hall, which the deputy tried several times to quell. She kept going out asking people to be quiet and move away from the door. No one paid attention to her. There was lots of talking going on amongst various attorneys, court personnel, etc. during the proceedings, while the judge was talking. There was cell phones going off left and right.

Needless to say, I was shocked. The whole procedure, from the time I got there in the morning, having to check in, in a packed wall to wall room with no air conditioning, waiting for instructions, to what I witnessed in the courtroom just amazed me. Oh and the case I was there to testify about got dismissed and no one told me, so I sat there in the courtroom waiting and waiting. I finally got up and asked the guy sitting next to the judge what was going on and he was like oh, that case was rescheduled. It would have been nice of them to announce that in court. None of us sitting there waiting to testify knew. The whole day was a fiasco.

I had the same thought and wondered if any of Her questions came from anything she may have seen

Excuse typos... I'm riding on a bumpy road right now.

I don't think anyone has seen video yet from this hearing. Cindy said this while JB was questioning her.

ETA: I think her exact words were "I still think she's alive" but don't recall the context.

It was after LDB had cross examined Cindy, and during JB's rebuttal questioning.

JB: you still believed Caylee was alive - after smelling that smell
LE did not believe Caylee was alive
when you made stmts to LE - you smelled dead bodies - you wanted them to know the smell you smelled was different than a dead body
CA - yes, I guess
JB: you wanted them to keep searching for a live Caylee
CA - absolutely - I still think Caylee's alive

When I had a DUI hearing over two years ago I experienced that same chaos in the denver court system, but much worse.

I must admit, I dressed worse than Lee at my hearing, but I tried my best (I was jobless and almost homeless and owned about 3 outfits. I don't know what Lee's excuse is).

I was shocked to see MANY people there under the influence of alcohol. And I could even hear a coke head grinding her teeth (huge sign of cocaine use) and speaking with the bailiff with a torn up mid-drift top and pants that were unzipped and unbuttoned because they didn't fit. Home girl could have at least wore a rope around her waist to spare all our eyes.

Judge Perry's court room is tame compared to what I have seen in the past. I have no doubt that come trial time he will be a lot more strict.

Re: Cindy saying she believed that Caylee was still alive..
Did KC start crying after Cindy said this???
I thought I heard this from someone on JVM last night.
They said she cryed twice .. once when Cindy made this statement and once when Leee mouthes "I Love You".

She was winding up to a poke in the eye. Not crying yet.

Cindy's statement at 3:16 in the video. Camera pans to ICA a few seconds later. I don't see any tears but there is some kind of emotion.

I think the emotion was due to the fact .... Casey was once again reminded that her mom believes her. If Cindy states she still believes Caylee is alive, then she doesn't think Casey harmed her.

I'm with you on the lax courtroom - especially the texting really irks me.

Do you think it could be because it's a hearing not the actual trial?

No it doesn't matter. Either hearing or trials it's all the same.

I've been in some intense situations and even trials, funerals etc. and that doesn't surprise me that people take a break from the gravity - I think it's pretty normal. In the case of Casey, however, her every move is being examined so I would think her handlers would be more careful about the appearance of what she does on the break.

I was also thinking that perhaps Cindy broke down aftewards, in the parking garage becaus Casey ignores her still and has not problem chatting it up with the girls on break but can't find it in her heart to show some love for her own mother. Just a thought.

Another thought on the hair...Casey is growing her hair long, so Cindy is too. Guess we shall see how long Cindy's hair will get.

That's pretty much what Cindy's mom Shirley told investigators. They wanted to know why her behaviour was so irrational and why she staunchly defended KC (paraphrase). Shirley stated that the only reason Cindy was acting that way was because if she doesn't believe KC, then that means Caylee is dead. This was in 2008 though.
I don't know where CA's irrationality comes from now, aside from an obvious mental disorder.

Nowhere close to how long KC's is. I want to know what kind of super shampoo they use in county jail! Her hair looks smooth and shiny... and I so hate to compliment KC, but she actually looks sorta pretty.

Ok, someone punch me in the throat now.

IMO - That's just Cindy wanting the attention back on her - after all - how much attention is she getting from that statement?
