JUSTICE! They could be selling to children. They committed a crime. Why are people sympathetic to a girl that will never fly right.
The sympathy is because of the WHYs. & I can't see how somebody couldn't feel sympathy, & saying that someone will never fly right, is a big broad statement, especially when you're talking about a teenager.

I do live in reality. I am not into all the high drama.

This is not uncommon for a defense attorney to use this as a way of getting a plea deal for his client.

Too bad that Misty refuses to tell the truth or agree to testify but I imagine she has always known she cant be made to testify against herself if she is a defendant in a case.
Better to go away as a drug trafficker than be known in prison as an inmate that was involved in the homicide of a 5 year old child. 25 years looks a heck of a lot better than LWOP or the death penalty.

I have said all along Misty was not going to say a word to try to get her lesser time. Telling the truth is NOT in Misty's best interest, IMO.

IMO
BBM: I see where she went wrong. Misty should have agreed to tell the truth in the future in the event that there is ever a trial for Haleigh. It worked for Ron, I guess that is what her attorney and the SA should have negotiated on, the future........................shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.t

Dang, I think it was the trick question that the judge threw out there. He asked Misty if she likes money!!!!!!!!!!!! I would have failed that question too..........

she didn't fail that question, IMO. :banghead:

that one was easy to tell the truth on.

Ok help me out guys...minimum mandatory...so in this case she will serve the whole 25 years or is there a possibility she would get parole after a certain time? I know she faces other charges but I mean on this one.

she will get credit for the time she has already spent in jail waiting for this sentence, but she has to do the whole 25 years

florida has gain time of 15% (ie you have to do 85% of your sentence and you can earn up to 15% off for good behavior) but she is not eligible (nor are any of the rest) for that credit

had the judge sentence her to forty years instead of the minimum 25 she could earn 15% gain time for years 26 thru 40, but since he gave her the minimum she has to serve the full meal deal (minus time served)

All I can say is that you all have been so patient in waiting for justice for Haleigh.

I think much more patience is going to be required, but I do see a point in time when this case will be solved. In the mean time these degenerates are be behind bars where they should be.

The sympathy is because of the WHYs. & I can't see how somebody couldn't feel sympathy, & saying that someone will never fly right, is a big broad statement, especially when you're talking about a teenager.

I'm also wondering about the legality of the judge allowing the knowledge of another case influence his decision on a case at hand, when the defendent has not been charged in the other case.:waitasec:

http://www.news4jax.com/news/25325313/detail.html

Prosecutors said she could qualify for a reduced sentence as a youthful offender, since she was 17 at the time of the crime, which could reduce her sentence to between six and 25 years.

IIRC Misty was just past 18 years when she was involved in the drug sting, many surmised that LE waited until she reached 18 years so she could be charged as an adult.

It is true she was 17 when HaLeigh went missing, so she was effectively a minor at that time.

I am not a lawyer, and I do not play one on TV.

All MOO.

Florida has mandatory minimum sentences, but there are ways to get around them. One of the things that could have been done from the beginning was to try to get some charges dropped, or get your charges reduced to something lesser. That is on the perp and their attorney, which, I might point out, in the US is offered free of charge if you can't afford one.

One of the main ways to do that is to help LE, IOW, snitch. If you have nothing to bargain with, or nothing you want to bargain with, the next thing you can do is spend every moment you have showing you have learned your lesson and changed your wicked ways.

I don't know what Donna did; I didn't follow her sentencing.

Did Hope do any of this? Nope, she was arrogant and belligerent and threatening, unfortunately for her, on tape that was played at her sentencing.

Did Tommy do this? To my knowledge, nope, he just went and failed another LDT. He did offer up some info, but I have no idea how credible it was. (I'm drawing a blank on Tommy's sentence.)

Ron worked with LE, it appears he gave them information, what, I don't know, but it has been stated a plea deal was reached. He still got 15 years.

IMO, Misty cut off her nose to spite her face, and that's it. IMO, this isn't about all the LE of Putnam County being in Ron's pocket, and a judge in a whole different county, St. John's, being out to get Misty or trying her for Haleigh's death. If nothing else, Misty saw what happened to Hope because of Hope's attitude, and chose to learn nothing from it.

I wonder what else the judge could do, when she so CLEARLY had a defendent in front of her who by her own testimony today showed no remorse and took no responsibility, and didn't seem to think dealing drugs was any big deal, just something poor people do. Does anyone in here think Misty, given the opportunity, wouldn't be right back out on the streets dealing drugs? I think she would, and I think the judge did, too. And IMO, that's why Misty got the sentence she did.

I agree! What fresh hell was that?!

I dunno gibby. It's very strange. Perhaps ... Misty is that sort of horse you can bring to water ... but ... that's it ... it still won't drink.

It seems Misty told the truth that she loves money. Nothing wrong with stating the obvious. Now if only she'd tell the other truths.

I wonder how much in love with Ron Misty still is after the sentencing? I hope she realizes that he isn't going to wait for her to get out of prison, and I also hope that she has finally figured out that Ron got her into this mess.

If Misty isn't responsible for whatever happened to HaLeigh, she should speak up NOW with truthful information. If not, this Judge has essentially blamed Misty for HaLeigh's demise, and Misty alone is going to take the rap. jmo

BBM:waitasec:
Yep, Misty will never see Ron again. Wonder if this will sink in for her after she sits in prison 15-20 years. How old will she be then Lisa?

Glad you pointed this out. I thought she was 18 at the time of the drug bust, but didn't have a link to back that up. ty

Well I'm pizzed. As far as I'm concerned Putnam County blew it. I will never believe a bunch of "druggies" fooled the cops...........

I couldn't have stated this better, and agree :)

Maybe that horse will appear to drink only to turn around and spit it back atcha.

Still dunno why she went on the stand... still perplexing.

No, actually Ron got less time because he made a deal on HIS daughters death..basically sold Haleigh out to save his own *advertiser censored*. Let's get real here. That is exactly what he did.

I think so also, badme102.
