Well his house is in foreclosure, his income is only $3 per hour- I wonder if he'll have to go over to Amscot and get a pay day advance in order to pay JAshton? The irony would be very rich indeed..

I just hope he can still pay his child support if he still has such obligations.

Thanks. That was worth waiting for.
Now where is RH, we haven't heard from him for a long time...?

Wish I could supply a link for you. I miss his input too, hope he comes back here soon to give us his thoughts on all the latest.

Hee hee, the images I get of Baez being slapped and by who...

So glad that this went through. Baez really needs to be sanctioned for the over two hundred thousand dollars he wasted in the beginning, IMO, but this is a good start. I wonder what he's pawning right now to pay for it?

Oh, and by the way, there's rumor a stripper pole was installed in Casey's cell today...hmmm...guess the boss is going to make money for her boy to pay his bills *snicker*

TY for this..and after listening to Mr. Sheaffer...He uses alot of the words many have used over the past...and I apologize in advance..as this is name calling..but his nic name was almost from the beginning [Baez] and although Mr. Sheaffer didnt use that term..he used many other applicable terms ..Schoolboy, immature...arrogant..inexperienced...foolish..and the list goes on....Its about time the "Court" called him out for his silliness..!! TY Judge Perry..

As to any further comments..I truly think everyone here has expressed my thoughts on the matter!! TY TY one and all and TY QB for this link!!:seeya:

Bill Sheaffer used to attend the hearings, but haven't seen him lately. Kathi is at every hearing.
I don't know why they seem silent lately.

I seem to remember that Bill Shaeffer had back surgery. This could be making it difficult for him to sit in certain types of chairs or for long periods without pain so the hearings may be difficult for him.

I've seen Kathi reporting on other cases lately so maybe she'll be back to more reporting on this when her other things calm down. Hope so... I love to watch her get those after hearing interviews. :innocent:

$500.00 is one of the smallest sanctions I have seen. I guess that's because the state is the one whose attorney's fees are being paid. In a private case, the sanction would be based on the billing for a private attorney which would be around $300.00 per hour or so, at least. So, if the attorney spent 6.5 hours (can't remember the total time) that would be closer to two grand. If you add the time spent at the hearing, it's even higher. I guess JA didn't charge for that though because he was already there on other motions.

I think the amount is very small and won't hurt JB. I hope the shame does. I've never been sanctioned and would be very ashamed if I was. Knock on wood that I never do anything stupid enough to warrant that. A sanction against the attorney personally is very embarrassing and must be reported to the state bar.

Unfortunately, a person must be able to feel shame, and I don't know that Baez is capable of that. I do hope it affects him, but part of me is thinking he's giggling over the tiny amount he was sanctioned.

Thankfully, most other lawyers are like you, Gitana. Most lawyers woudln't want a sanction in the first place. Baez is his own category of bad lawyer. I guess we'll see next hearing if he acts better or if it's his usual deflection by whining and complaining.

Yeah, another innocent bystander that could be under the KC bus-JB's ex & kiddies...not to mention his wife-Yes JB deserves what he asked for, yes it made me :), but at the end of the day, this schlub has to pay out of his pocket (previously lined with almost $90K in ABC money, IIRC) which means out of his family's mouths.
What a dope. Not a name call, just an observation.

Yep, I don't think he felt shame as much as embarrassment (which means he would do it again if he could get away without being embarrassed, no morals learned there!).
Then, he had the cajones to ask the court, in front of all the world, to be lenient on him for 30 days. First off, ask the judge that at the bench, it is far less humiliating....secondly, it is a little late for it to dawn on you that you just cost your family that money, after all the time you have spent trying to cheat the system.
I bet he wanted so badly to turn to his right and punch KC right in the kisser. Not cause she did this to him, but because she has become the thorn of all thorns...He has to be so regretful that he ever took this case. No money in it for him, his reputation is shot, and she's gonna get convicted-Way to torpedo a career!

That expression of "I'm not with HIM! ->" so clearly on CM's face during yesterdays hearing is a sign that yeah he probably gets this now. Notice how he was not willing to stick his neck out when JB started fumbling about the report schedules? To be fair to CM it is doubtful that in those 40 years he has ever tried to try a case with another lawyer like JB. I would like to hope that JB is fairly unusual. Lets also not forget that after 40 years experience in that sort of profession you can drift out of the practice of doing it yourself, assuming that the more junior members of the team are picking up the slack on the day to day stuff. CM lent his name and reputation to this, but really hasn't been paying attention the way he obviously should.

Unfortunately for all involved neither CM nor JB can bail on this case. CM is limited because he is the required DP qualified attorney. In order to escape he needs to get someone equally qualified to replace himself. One speculation (and thats all it is is pure speculation) about why retired DP specialist Judge Eaton was in the courtroom on Monday, was that CM might have been trying to lure him onto the defense team.

It's even worse for JB. recent Florida law (enacted pretty much in anticipation of JB himself.) prevents a privately hired attorney, who has accepted payment to represent a client, from bailing on the case should the client be declared indigent. JB took his substantial portion of that ABC check. He's stuck until or unless KC fires him and the judge agrees.

Interesting, Faefrost
True, due to recently enacted Law, Baez can not bail ...and CM is DP qualified...but then again so is new attorney Ann Finnell yet her role her is Mitigation.
CM is also occupied with his other, very political, high profile case which probably pays him.

I thought at first Judge Eaton was simply invited to observe a hearing on a high profile case. But you have a point CM may be trying to lure the retired Seminole County Judge to the Team, perhaps in an advisory capacity.

CM was confused, shocked to hear Eaton left and replied to Perry he shouldn't have left...not difficult to deduce Eaton was there for a reason.

More and more I suspect that he is like his client in wondering how he can get out of this mess and avoid going to jail over the finances. I am still suspecting that a huge problem for JB producing these reports within the alloted time frame involves everybody getting paid. At some point in all of this the JAC is eventually going to kick over the right anthill and force some public revelations about where the money has been going.

I agree

Baez's child is an adult, she was the spokesperson for her father and this case in July 2008...she graduated from University in iirc 2009..

The Orlando Sentinels May 2009 2 part report on him is very eye opening when it comes to how he dealt with finances, at least up to 2007 according to the article.

The original OS link to the article no longer works but I believe we have it here on WS in the Jose Baez thread...will look.

Here is a link to a thread on WS to back up the above

The interview with Schaeffer is great. He says "on air" how childish and inexperienced Baez is and how he has endangered his client.

Beyond embarrassing. If Baez is capable of getting embarrassed or not. He did shake his head in the courtroom when Perry said we may have to go to the last resort and that is the 500 a day and contempt of court for the defense. He is a willful child sitting next to his willful client.

So true!!!!! This is :offtopic: but ICA and JB have aged 10 yrs since this case began. This photo really captures it.

Back on topic........ I believe HHJP has shown tremendous restraint by not imposing sanctions on other motions (not sure if SA has req'd them prior). I was just a lowly legal secretary and even I understand the value and importance of the expert process.

This is neither here nor there - but did y'all notice the large mole on Baez's cheek is suddenly a lot smaller? I was wondering if along with his (weird and unflattering) buzz cut he's been having a little laser work done.

Well I know he certainly is eating well. That's for sho!

Yuk yuk - for sho! A buzz cut is so wrong for someone who has more hanging below the chin than above the ears. Oh dear!:floorlaugh:
