People in this line of work have years of experience being VERY careful in their choice of words. Very much like politicians, which is not intended to be complimentary, LOL. A lot of this is just theatre to them. They are creating an impression they want the public/potential jury pool to have. We shall eventually learn whether the impression is real or an illusion. IMOOooo
Good points!

And perhaps SR needs more practice? YMMV, but while I was interested in what SR had to say, I was admittedly disappointed in his lack of professionalism as an “expert” compared to the many experts I’ve listened to testify over te years.

And, I have zippo background in SR’s field, but even I was able to catch things where he was just wrong (ie, his comments about the use of pen register warrants).

As always, all of the above is MOO.

And also, I have read of several cases where the criminal was eventually identified decades later & had led a spotless life after even a committing a horrific crime.

Justice still must to be served, but the above serves to remind me that we are all so much more complex than the worst thing we may have done.

I believe they turn law abiding to keep their fingerprints and DNA out of LE data bases. To keep a low profile under LE radar. I doubt it has anything to do with getting an epiphany and suddenly developing morals and values.

Perhaps!

But for me, whatever the reason, the fact that some lead clean lives after “getting away” with a terrible crime is good for society, yes, since they weren’t apprehended for years/decades?

IMO, I am sure BK did his best to cleanse the sheath, he just missed a spot.
One thing I have found interesting is they said it was a single source of DNA on the snap, but the leather should have bovine DNA and I would have thought the DNA on both the person touching the sheath and the sheath would shed when it is touched. AND, I would assume whoever sewed the sheath would have left DNA as well as whoever set the snap and packaged the sheath.

Not to mention apparently there wasn't enough left to have it retested lol

Let's be honest if it weren't for touch DNA there is absolutely not one piece of evidence that links BK to this crime. There also is not one piece of evidence that he knew the four victims and absolutely no motive whatsoever. If he indeed was involved he didn't do it by himself in my opinion.

Can you please explain what you mean about the pen register warrants? Thanks

Because, more than likely, BK scrubbed it clean.

He missed the grooves.

JMO
Also, could he scrub under the sewn threads that hold the sheath together or inside the glued margins? Just not sure that anyone could get ALL the DNA from the manufacturing process off of the sheath.

Also the hemoglobin of MM if found under her I would imagine it to be saturated. After all there was pictures of it leaking between floors on the outside wall.

One off murders definitely a thing.

No one has to stalk anyone to know them. I believe he knew who he killed.

There is a motive but we do not know it because only BK knows it.

There is other evidence in this case but DNA convicts killers all the time and it is the most important evidence to a jury.

Many posters like to minimize the DNA but even the defense does not dispute the results of the DNA match taken directly from a swab of Kohberger's cheek.

The DNA was 5.37 octillion times more likely to be Kohberger's DNA than a random person from the general population.

Some perspective that is difficult to minimize.....

8 billion - World Population -

8,000,000,000

Billion 1,000,000,000 (9 zeros)
Trillion 1,000,000,000,000 (12 zeros)
Quadrillion 1,000,000,000,000,000 (15 zeros)
Quintillion 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 (18 zeros)
Sextillion 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (21 zeros)
Septillion 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (24 zeros)

Octillion 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (27 zeros)

There is an interesting book that was published in 1954 which is as true today as it was then. It's called "How to Lie with Statistics" by Darrell Huff. If your local library doesn't have it, you can buy it on Amazon or for you tablet. It is eye-opening and applies to so much, it would be well worth your time to read it - anyone's time, really. And I also recommend "The Visual Display of Quantitative Information" by Edward Tufte. In fact, I highly recommend all of Tufte's books. They are also great. We deal with so much information nowadays and these books give us a great foundation for that.

IMO, it was a bit more complicated than that. I'm not sure there's a way to cleanse something so small as DNA from down inside that kind of groove (designed so as to get narrower and then wider to accommodate the snap - it also is a great hiding place for skin cells).

And I don't think he felt okay using bleach on it (that would have made it obvious he had tried to rid it of DNA). But even bleach cannot destroy DNA easily. It's a fairly tightly bonded molecule.

If he had dunked the whole thing in bleach, I'm not sure even that would have worked.

Keep in mind that there was only one DNA pattern in that snap (and they found more than one set of chromosomes, IIRC).

The above article just points out that even bleach cannot destroy DNA in a way that is consistent and regular. There are a ton of other studies. Soap won't do it. Isopropyl alcohol won't do it. Not entirely, anyway. Maybe after 50 washings with bleach - but if the sheath had been repeatedly soaked in bleach, that too could be discovered (and still could if the Defense wanted consumptive testing of the sheath - which, apparently it does not want).

I'd bet a lot of donuts it's because the Defense knows a few things we don't (such as...there's a separate trail tying Kohberger to buying a Ka-Bar knife; perhaps even showing it to someone...)

IMO.
