Lost at sea, 1967

I actually found this mentioned in an article about a ship called the "Flying Dutchman" that had vanished in 1976. In that case, 44-year-old John Dijt, yacht owner and Alabama businessman, vanished along with some companions (female companions I believe).

The author of the article referenced another ship that had vanished - the "Mirage" in 1967. Wealthy Mobile businessman Norman W Hutchings disappeared along with his 18-year-old son Webb. The son would fit the age for BK. It says in Feb 1967, they left Perdido Bay for Jacksonville. The boat was last seen passing beneath the intracoastal waterway bridge at Pensacola.

Hi, everyone-would you take a look at Lorrie John Trites with me?

Granted, the height is way off and the age is borderline, but I like the mustache and eyes...

After googling this guy, I hope he's not BK:

Please also look at Mr. John Joseph Simmons:

I realize he is clearly in the military, but I wonder if intelligence folks would come up when the fingerprints were run by the FBI? I don't know if their ID info is restricted or not...just my ignorance.

Thank-you!!!

Simons is at Charley Project too: http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/s/simons_john.html
I'm not sure about the military thing either. Worth taking a look at!

Thanks for the story, Gina...intriguing.

Would you guys take a look at this one as well:
Geno Ranelli has been legally declared dead. He is missing with a friend of his from Minnesota.
http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/3593dmmn.html

Normally I'm terrible at noticing resemblances, but something in this guy's smile reminded me of BK. A thread was started for him recently right here at WS (found it in a google search!) http://websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56166

Also found a mention of him on this lady's blog - she's doing her family genealogy - he must be a distant relative of hers:
Geno Samuel Ranelli, Johnson HS 1969
b. January 22, 1951 St. Paul, MN
d. missing since May 20, 1977, declared legally dead, enlisted US Navy 1969-1971 Eye, Ears, Nose and Throat Specialist, St. Albans Naval Hospital, New York, NY

As always, I learn from you, Gina!!! I should be googling them before putting them out there...I liked Geno's smile for BK as well, but he is another Armed Services vet and an ENT to boot? That might knock him out of the running.

Clearly the swimming coach is out-if for no other reason than he is truly 6'7" and 290 pounds!!!! Yuck, what a history....

Hi Gina,

I'm working on posting messages about BK on craigslist.com. So far I have just posted one on the Denver, CO craigslist.

RKnowley, those would both be great places to post info. I'm not too familiar with those sites. Do you want to post them?

I was planning on hitting every state with Benjaman's story but craigslist is telling me I can only post my post on ONE category and one state at a time. It won't take multiple same posts :p

ETA: I'll show them (craigslist.com)! I will just not post the SAME post. I will post a similar post..haha

here is an idea, lets all have a state assigned to post, i have a craigslist account so i can post in one state, so maybe we should all pick a state and then we can keep track of which states have been posted in?

Sounds like an OK plan to me. You will still have to post "different" posts within the state. For example, Colorado has a craigslist website for different areas of Colorado such as Boulder, Colorado Springs, Denver, etc. Craigslist wouldn't let me post the same exact post for the different areas in CO. It wouldn't even let me post the same post on another states craigslist site. Am I making sense? LOL

Now that I'm finished confusing everyone including myself I will finish up posting to the Colorado Craigslist websites.

So, LOL .........
Colorado = RKnowley

I will take Indiana as I have a Craigslist account as well...RK, would you mind posting a transcript of what you have written?

Here's a link to RKnowley's post at Denver Craigslist:
http://denver.craigslist.org/com/506584992.html

That's a good idea to put his email for the contact info. I think it might be a good idea to do something like bkunknown "at" gmail so the spam-bots don't pick it up. They have programs that troll websites looking for email addresses to send spam to.

I just signed up for an account so I'll be posting to Illinois soon!

ETA: Just posted to every Illinois region. I noticed that St. Louis, Missouri comes up under Illinois (parts of IL near the border are in the St. Louis metro area). I didn't post to St. Louis because I figured whoever takes Missouri will post to it. I was running out of variations on my posts, too! Funny how they won't let you post the same exact thing twice. I guess that is to cut down on spam.

ETA2: I did post to Quad Cities, which comes up under both Iowa and Illinois.

Another note - when I posted to Chicago, it asked me to pick a subregion of Chicago and advised against crossposting to more than one subregion. Northwest Indiana was one of them, but believe09, since you are doing Indiana I thought I'd leave that area for you. The subregion I chose is West Chicagoland.

Also, RKnowley and I have been posting in the general community section for each area.

I've had a couple replies to my craigslist posts. One was suggestions on what could be done to try to identify Benjaman and this is a reply from a person on one of the Colorado craigslists I posted on.

I lived in Indiana all my life before moving to Colorado. this man looks somewhat familiar to me. I don't know who I am replying to and sending this message to but tell the man to post this information on Bloomington Indiana craigslist. They have one. That is where I am from. It is home of Indiana University so it has lots of people through the city every year. I don't know the man and I am sorry I can't place why he is familiar to me but maybe someone in Bloomington will recognize him. If I ever met him it would have been there. Good luck!

Cool i am really close to Bloomington, its just south of me....My Dad goes fishing there alot

I posted in Bloomington yesterday-here is the link...

Please forward to anyone you can think of if you live in the area!!!!

I have posted in NW Indiana, Bloomington, Indianapolis, and South Bend so far. Any tips for getting through the "duplicate posting" firewall at craigslist? It takes me 3-5 times before I can alter the post enough to get it through...

Great job with the Craigslist thing you guys - keep up the great work! Someone out there knows this man!!

What I did was just change the order around a little bit. For example, the first time I posted, I had a couple of additional links at the bottom where they could read more about BK. Then I changed it around and put the links at the top. Another variation I did, which seemed to get past them ;) was I alternated between saying "He believes he is from the Midwest" or "he believes he has lived in Indiana, Colorado, and possibly elsewhere in the Midwest". I also varied whether I put that particular sentence toward the beginning or toward the end. Here are the links to some of my listings if you want to see the difference:

Okay, you probably get the idea ;)
