Just a note on mil fingerprinting.....My hubby has been a Reg Army recruiter(4yrs)and is currently Nat Guard recruiter( 13yrs and counting). The National Guard handles things a bit different than the reg army. There was a time when NG soldiers didn't even go to boot camp and even though fingerprints were taken in the reg Army not so in NG units. This changed in 1964. Now all applicants must be printed and a criminal search done before enlisting.

Thank you!!!!!

I had been trying to find a website about Lou Smith. I remembered he had to contact many LE dept, because not all those convicted are entered into the main fingerprint database. Then, last night, I was watching TruTv, about the Heather Church case. And Lou Smit was featured along with a fingerprint expert who knew LE agencies could not just stop at the main database. They went on to send out evidence to 92 LE.
'snipped'

Smit is not only an experienced detective. He has been credited for having solved one of Colorado's most baffling crimes, the murder of 13-year-old Heather Dawn Church in her Black Forest home in 1991. Smit was asked to come out of retirement to take over the case. Heather Church had vanished from home one evening while her mother and two brothers attended a Scout meeting. Two years later, her skeletal remains were found miles away, in a ravine west of Colorado Springs. With the trail truly cold, but still prominent in the public's mind, newly elected El Paso County Sheriff John Anderson asked Smit to head the investigation in 1995. Smit agreed and examined all of the evidence, focusing his attention on a set of unidentified fingerprints found in the Church home. He directed his detectives to begin sending the prints to every state and local law enforcement office in the country.
After contacting 92 different jurisdictions, a Louisiana police department matched the prints to Robert Charles Browne, a paroled thief who had moved to Colorado and was still living a half mile from the Church home three years after the killing. Browne later confessed that he had killed Heather with a blow to the head when she discovered him burglarizing the home.

A lab worker suggested re-running the lone fingerprint. It was always possible that the perpetrator had been picked up for another offense and his print was now in the automated system. Some cold case cops ran unmatched prints every day for years, on the hope that finally on this day the perpetrator had been arrested on some other charge. This kind of dogged devotion had paid off several times, helping to generate more interest in other cold cases.
Smit made up a package with a blown-up image of the print to send out to 52 jurisdictions. Two months later, in March, he received good news from Louisiana — a match to a man convicted for burglary and car theft in that state. The man they were looking for lived within half a mile of the Churches: Robert Charles Browne. It was disheartening to have been that close to the perpetrator — even to have searched his property — and yet to have missed him. But nonetheless he was still there.
...
This article says 52 LE depts contacted. 52. 92. Still, if there is a chance that not all LE jurisdictions are in the main system, then BK's fingerprints could be sent out to
many other LE.

Dream, great minds think alike? i was thinking this the other day. alot of the police stations aren't even on the web yet. Do you think this could be something we could accomplish, maybe with help from FBI Bill? He would know which departments don't enter, I would think, and we could work from there.

carolwood: I am willing if you and FBI Bill are.
Maybe Lou Smit would give us the names of the police stations not on at that time. We could check updates. Let me see if Lou Smit has a web site. I found one for 2006, will check for updates. Will send you pm later this evening.

said it is listed in LTWH threads. Thanks again Capoly

What if he drove to the location he was at that day, wouldn't there be a car somewhere. If he didn't live in that area then it had to be parked somewhere. What about looking in to all the cars that where towed around that time that were never retrieved. How many could that be. The really only time someone wouldn't pick it up from the tow lot, is if it was a stolen vehicle or if they were brutally beaten and couldn't remember they had a car to begin with. If this avenue has already been looked into then sorry. Maybe the police did this already??

Yes Snowme, I meant after you view it. Thanks

Sorry for the delay on this response. Carol, I didn't catch the show. I tried but either it was moved in the schedule/aired at another time??? I've been sick for a couple days and didn't even think to try again yesterday. Now that my head is clearer I'll try again this coming Saturday.

Though it didn't show on the website, I was able to catch it here, Saturday 11 am. It profiled about 10 cases of missing children and teens. Maybe 15, I didn't count. I was impressed we even have this on tv in our area.

I talked to Richmond Hill last year regarding this same idea-I had noticed that there was an auction of vehicles that had been abandoned or seized. Unfortunately, the area holds the auctions every 6 months like clockwork, which means any vehicle associated with BK would have been sold or crushed in 2005 sometime.

I think the only way you may be able to find out anything about a vehicle that was auctioned during this time, is to go to the clerk of courts office in the county and see what has been filed on a abandon vehicle. This will be done by which ever companies service the area, in Louisiana, we call them Salvage, Junk Yards and Towing Companies. Here, a junk yard may have a contract with the city, to pick up wrecked and abandoned vehicles. They will take them to there yard, and begin the work, if abandon, to find the owner. If a owner or mortgage company can't be found, then papers have to be filed thru the courts to take possession of the vehicle, for the tow bill. There is more to this one this thread somewhere, do a search, and i actually had posted the site that tell how it is handled in Georgia. So if we have someone in this particular area, Please go to the court house in the county, and ask Clerk of Court workers where this would be found in there books.(At least, this is where it would be found here, it may be a bit different in Georgia, but a phone call could be made to find out)

See the Theories thread page 7 about this. I didn't post the County website at the time, because I wasn't sure what county Richmond Hill was in, but you can do a search on this to find it. But I would be willing to bet most counties in Georgia have about the same rules when it comes to abandoned vehicles.

I would like to find out if there has been an "all out" media campaign for Benjaman? I know from experience, I can write news media(newspapers, tv news, ellen, david letterman, etc.) and probably nothing will come from it, unless Ben has someone handling his media for him. Is FBI Bill handling this for him? Or does FBI Bill give these messages to Nurse Betty? The reason I'm asking, I can contact the Associated Press, which most newspapers around the country draw some of there news from. But there will have to be a contact person in Ben's behalf. They will need this for verification of the story and possible to interview Ben. And this holds true for all media, I would think.
I think Ben's face needs to be in newspapers, on news shows, etc., as often as possible, but we can't accomplish this without knowing who is there to verify our story of Ben. I used to work for a small newspaper, and I can tell you, the editor would get this story, and verify it before it was run, unless it came from the Associated Press. The AP does there own verification.

I think this is a great idea. Maybe ask believe09 or christine 4848? See if BK does have someone who would handle media requests.

I am not sure what all out media campaign means, TBH. Now, BK does not have a publicist or a spokesperson-when media has vetted his story, they speak with FBI Bill. FBI Bill would pass along interview requests directly to Mr. Kyle.

In the past, when we have contacted media sources like Dateline, Good Housekeeping, Good Morning America etc...we have simply done a synopsis of his story and included media links for media that has already been done on him (Savannah Now, NE article, Dr. Phil). I am sure there are some posted, but here is an example of one I did a while ago when looking for a dentist to donate dental XRAYS to him:

"I volunteer for an organization that advocates for the families of the missing, as well as for unidentified individuals across the country.

I am assisting an amnesia victim who was located beaten and unconscious behind a Burger King in Richmond Hill, GA in 2004. "Mr. Benjaman Kyle" as he calls himself has no memory of his identity or his place of residence. His case is being handled by the FBI, his finger prints are in AFIS and his DNA is in CODIS as well as the mitochondrial DNA databases. So far this has generated not a single match. Mr. Kyle recently appeared on the Dr. Phil Show in the hopes that national coverage would provide some tips to who he might be; he has specific memories of Indiana and Colorado but has no idea why he was in Georgia.

Recent activity on his case has created a need for a set of dental XRAYS to assist in the process of ruling him in or out of potential matches-Mr. Kyle is indigent and unable to collect any kind of assistance or even work because he does not have a legal ID. He lives with one of his former nurses who took him in out of the kindness of her heart. Please consider donating to Mr. Kyle a set of dental XRAYS that not only will be forwarded to agencies who have forensic odontologists lined up to rule him in or out of similar missing persons cases, but will also be attached to his NCIC data base for further comparisons.

The holidays are approaching, and there are many working diligently to try and bring this nice man home to the family who undoubtedly loves and misses him.

Here are links to the media and database information on Mr. Kyle:

Please contact me with any questions-the sooner we can obtain the films for Mr. Kyle, the closer he will be to finding out his identity.

Thank you for your time and attention!"

You could certainly include Bill Kirkconnell's contact information for questions or requests for interviews.

Does this help at all? I am not sure I got to everything you were looking for...:waitasec:

believe09: I do like your letter style.
But I think Carolwood was thinking of someone always on call, for any newspaper, tv show, etc. to contact. If FBI Bill K, wants to do that, it would be great.
I am thinking I should not talk for carolwood. She worked for a newspaper and knows what is needed.
