I wonder if his religious upbring had anything to do with him becoming a serial killer.
Pretty radical ministry his mother and sister belonged to.

WELLS, TX (KTRE) -

A pastor at the Church of Wells said he will be preaching at the funeral of a man who was arrested in Lufkin after killing an Alaska barista.

The pastor of the Church of Wells said Keyes attended the church, before it had opened a location in Wells, after Keyes killed Bill and Lorraine Currier of Essex, Vt. The couple disappeared in June 2011.

The pastor said Keyes attended again after a bank robbery. He then visited his family when they were living in Indiana. Keyes' mother and sister then relocated to Wells with the rest of the church.

Keyes visited Wells in March to attend his sister's wedding, who married one of the brothers of the Church of Wells. The pastor said Keyes came to "seek the gospel". Keyes was arrested the next day in Lufkin.

The Church made headlines in May after a family, who was part of the church, waited 15 hours to call for emergency care after their three-day-old infant, Faith Pursley, died.

Maybe he allowed himself to become "the second person" once he had his own space to do so? Just a thought. I thought his statement on when he became aware of his "other side" was a very specific time too and must coordinate to something big in his life.

Also, if he went on a "scheduled 2 week cruise out of New Orleans" after killing Samantha and before disposing of her body, I would think officials in the ports of call involved for that cruise should be checking their lists of missing persons and unsolved cases too.

Hopefully this is fine to discuss since there is a news article confirming the sisters membership to the church. Israel was in TX for his sisters wedding when he was arrested. Here is Keyes sisters testimony which gives some insight into how extreme their beliefs were.

Methodically planning a murder to not get caught and sexually assaulting at least two of his female victims that we know of, doesn't really go hand in hand if you know what I mean.

Not sure if he used condoms when he assaulted his victims but you would think DNA would tie him to the crime if the bodies were found like in the case with Samantha.

I would certainly think Keyes DNA has been added into CODIS by now and it would be interesting to know if any hits have been returned. Hopefully other unsolved crimes can also be linked to Keyes this way also.

JF, as forensic and other technology advances, so does predators/serial killers strategies & tactics. In one of the articles, it stated that Keyes studied other serial killers prior. Keyes, also used jurisdictional linkage blindness, various signatures & MOs, as did Bundy, and many others to confuse investigators.
Experienced Serial Killers/Predators of today are forensically aware. Seldom are their victim's remains located, unless investigators are lead to them as was Samantha Koenigs'...

Yes, I wonder about those trips he made to Mexico. One thing that struck me as odd in the timeline that the FBI released was his very brief trip to Hawaii. He arrived one day and left only two days later. A few days after that he was in Mexico. Did he kill someone in Hawaii?

Where was he before he wen to Hawaii? Did he go back there after Mexico?

Maybe he was setting up a cache in Hawaii, so he would be prepared to kill the next time he visited. Maybe he was hiding tools and weapons.
