Jersey*Girl, do you think it's plausible that Sam was s*xually assaulted in the video, and that is why they aren't releasing it? I don't think that's the answer as there were no signs of a struggle. But a possibility? MOO

No, probably not. But you made me think of something else.

If NG mentions the wrist being exposed on the video surveillance footage. I'm going to say the perp reached up and put something over the camera, while doing this his sleeve pulled up.

"The abductor’s face was not visible, police have told the media, and they have not released the video, saying they want to preserve its usefulness to any possible prosecution.
“There is an evidentiary nature to those videos that were taken in by these security cameras and they can be used later on in court,” police spokesman Lt. Dave Parker is quoted as saying by KTVA.com. “But if we are to present them now it would have the effect of tainting the jury.”
The owners of the coffee stand, Tyler and Michelle Duncan, have seen the video. They reported the case to police after arriving at their business the morning after Koenig's abduction, according to the Daily News.
"This perpetrator took obvious and deliberate means to avoid being captured on video," Tyler Duncan told the Anchorage paper."

I can often identify my friends from a block away, at night, by the way they move. People don't often deviate from their style of clothing. So if this guy was wearing a blocky Carhart coat in the video and I know a guy who always wears Carhart and moves in that certain way - it would narrow down the suspects.

I don't understand why they don't release the video.

police excuse for keeping video from us => There is an evidentiary nature to those videos that were taken in by these security cameras and they can be used later on in court,” said Parker. “But if we are to present them now it would have the effect of tainting the jury.”

reads to me as the police are less concerned with finding samantha than they are with attempting to put a potential notch on their bedpost.

Great post & pretty noteworthy.

Note: Doesn't mean he's the perp but goes to show how easy it is to get an approximate height of somebody.

I'm still a little confused about something though. Samantha doesn't look 140-160. If she's 5'4 or 5'5, anything near that approximation would be overweight for her age. In the pictures that I've seen of her she doesn't appear to be heavy. Could her weight have been given by a man that may be heavy himself therefore he'd think that's skinny compared to him? I'm sorry that it confuses me but her missing person's poster should be close to accurate. If she's in-between those weights, then her face shot is deceiving & the poster should also include a full length picture as well for perspective.

Weight can differ so much. I am 5' 5" and weigh 145. I have on a pair of size 6 pants right now. I have a muscular build, and if I was missing, I would probably be described as thin to average. My mother weighs less than me is approx a size 12/14. People carry weight differently.

Thanks Knox :blowkiss:

But...when did it occur? Could it have been ongoing at a time before she was 18 but she finally decided to ask the authorities for protection after she came of age? The wording in the document made me wonder if it happened more than once. I'm wondering if it was something that kept escalating, like maybe lewd remarks to brushing up against her to inappropriate touching to threats and so on. If so, then if le knew about it but didn't take matters into the state's hands then they'd definitely hold some culpability.

James Koenig said his daughter hadn't known the man for very long before she sought the restraining order in November.

True but we don't know how tall the oblivious person in the pickup was. Did they find and talk to that person? Sounds like an accomplice. This seems too well planned to have overlooked a pickup 50 ft away with a person sitting in it.

Is it possible that the pickup person was sleeping? Maybe waiting to pick up a passenger after a shift at a nearby business?

The video has not been released publicly. Nor has Samantha's father seen it. James Koenig says he agrees with the police decision to withhold the tape. He says that its release would only encourage vigilantiism -- and he does not want that.

There may be merit in withholding the video from the general public. I am far from convinced that a controlled and well conducted viewing by select people close to Samantha would be wasted energy.

If LE really has good reason not to show the video to appeal for help, then I hope they are close to knowing who this guy is. Otherwise, what can they do? If they have studied it and are not getting his ID from it, what can they do to find him? I'd like to think LE knows far more than they are saying, but when I have believed that in other cases, it has often proved false.

So very true!!

If I were him I would HAVE to see that tape. I wouldn't be able to stand not knowing exactly what happened in the last minutes before she went missing, but that's me. It would drive me crazy.

Bdawk20, your #363 is exactly what I took wrong. Thank you do much for clearing that up. It makes sense now. I do think it's stupid though bc if you don't want somebody around you & approach the courts for protection, then I think you should have the right to no have to air the reason why in full blown court. I guess each person has their own side of the story but jeesh now look this girl is missing. I hope this cat has nothing to do with her kidnapping.

That's exactly what I think happened.

If I play Devil's Advocate & go against the fact that I do believe the video should be shown BUT edited to show stills of the peep only...well quite frankly playing Devil's Advocate makes me wonder if the reason they're holding the tape close ro the vest is bc the believe Samantha's already incapacitated, therefore they'd definitely need the tape for good evidence. I can't seriously see it having anything to do with tainting a jury pool. Really? So I guess my wonder is if Sanantha was already harmed & part of it was caught on tape. If they knew who it was, or even suspected who it was, wouldn't they have been brought in for questioning?

I know le does things for a reason & I respect them highly, especially my family & friends le, but OPD has jaded my stance. The original investigators & le muffed up Jenn Kesse's case. So that's why I honestly think something from the surveillance, like a still of the poi, should be put out to the public. I mean afterall, Tyler & Michelle Duncan saw it already and called police. Did their other employees see it as well?

I have to wonder if maybe le thinks the perp could be linked to other crimes as well, so the sanctity of this tape would need to be protected in order to use it in court as evidence. Maybe? Idk, just guessing...

I understand what you're saying as my son's gf & I are the same height & both wear 6 or 8 in jeans but depends on where we shop. I'm bigger busted whereas she has a nicer bazonkadonk than I do. I have thin legs whereas she has muscular legs. We're both 5'5 but I weigh 122 & she weighs 146. Her thighs & calves are large bc she's played soccer, dance, cheer & softball her whole life - no breaks. She has a washboard stomach & is still thin, however according to the doctor's chart for her age & height, she's considered overweight or heavy side, no child births is a factor, etc. Internal organs can weigh more with age. Metabolism changes. She cried to me about this, which of course made me upset enough to discuss it with my doctor. The way he explained it to me was that it's all due to her age bc she's only 17 so if her legs are that muscular for her height right now, then if she slows in growth athat muscle could turn fatty. He said something about bmi. She's really thin to me, literally.

I just really wish people would put full length pictures on missing posters as well as close-ups. It gives a better perspective. Seems like everyone puts the "prettiest" picture up instead of how they looked every single day. Kwim? I think theres a better chance of recognizing a missing person if there's diversification in their pictures being presented. I've felt this way for a long time now.

I do not think she was incapacitated. She walked away with the perp.
Also, if she was hurt and bleeding, there would have been a blood trail leading somewhere.

I wonder about the trainer lady, that saw a man with a girl in a choke hold. Why didn't she call 911 right away? I tell you, some people in our society have no common sense or decency.

Yeah, I agree. If she were punched or kicked, though, she'd be able to walk & no blood. He could have had her hair maybe. Again, just speculating. I think she was shown the gun so she thought she'd do whatever the perp said in order to remain alive. God help this girl.

I think if there had been a lot of activity, i.e. struggling, fighting, etc. the person in the vehicle nearby would have noticed. But I also don't get the person who saw a girl in a chokehold not calling 911...would they wait until they saw someone killed to call? JMO

Here is the video of Victoria Stafford's abductor (female) leading her away from school. Abduction starts at 15 second mark :( .

The height and appearance of this woman, were similar to Victoria's mother. However, the woman was also identifiable by her odd gait, and acquaintances recognized it in the video, and she was eventually brought in by LE.

Release the video, LE.
