I'm guessing she wanted to double back to make sure she really saw a child? Just a guess.

Google Maps is telling me from Taziki's to her parent's neighborhood (I don't know the exact address but MSM published the photo of the sign leading into it) is 6.4 miles, or a 12 min drive if she took 459. There are back roads but probably a lot of lights, so let's say she was indeed on 459 initially to get to the Lake Wilborn area.

The area her car was located in appears to be about halfway home, so let's say it took her 6 min to get from Taziki's to mile marker 11-ish, spotting the supposed toddler as she was zooming by.

She gets off that next exit, backtracks to the Rt 459 and Rt 31 intersection, and gets back on 459 south.

Let's say that leg of the trip took another 6 minutes. Now we're at 12 minutes.

And now another 4 minutes or so to get back to mile marker 11. That's about 16 minutes which would be 9:16 if she left Taziki's at 9:00 on the dot, so I think it's doable.

Of course there would be lights and some traffic, so the time could actually have been 20 minutes or 25 minutes, placing her at the location for the second time around 9:20 or 9:25, and we know her flashing hazards appeared on the Gray Hughes video around 9:31:33.

I think she could have left Taziki's at or around 9pm and doubled back to the location(s) by 9:31.
She called her mom at 9:18 or 9:19. But yes I think it's possible for her to have looped twice between Tazikis and the call to mom before the 9:31 mark. However some people on Tw have adamantly said the loop would take much longer despite Google maps.

Ex or retired specialists chime in on headline true crime cases all the time, and almost always get some of the fine details wrong. It's kind of annoying, but that's usually not what the article is even about.

The point is, usually, to direct attention to what LE is, or isn't doing, that gives you insight into which direction the investigation is headed. We have some verified current & former LE here, and they do the same thing. They might not know the details of the case, but they do have valuable insight into how investigations usually go.

I'm not new to following cases here, or otherwise. I tend to lose interest when they don't get the basic facts correct. It only takes one article like that to start to skew the conversation here. The real facts are sometimes hard enough to keep straight without those kind of errors being perpetuate. JMO

Not saying she is lying, but it's dark on those roads and would be hard to see anything - let alone a child. Aren't you most likely looking ahead when driving on an interstate? Moo

Interesting point. I usually travel about 70 mph, and at night, I am looking forward at the road, with minimal peripheral vision, especially at night.

When you are traveling that fast at night, you really are not seeing anything much, and if you do, you would have to stop, and go back to see what it was that caught your eye. You may pass a small child, but it would take a few seconds for your brain to catch up to what you saw. By that time, you would be 50 or 60 feet away.

I know, I tend to feel the same way, but try to remember that minute details of the case aren't the point of the media outlet getting their opinion. Usually I just ignore the "experts" that MSM call in to sound off because folks here know more about the case than outside "experts" do.

The experts here, will always admit they haven't followed the case but give a more basic, overview of which direction the investigation is going. Those folks I tend to listen to.

:)

And I respect their opinions if they're local as someone above here said they are. Traffic can be crazy, but I would think after 9pm it might not be bad?? The loop from 459 and 31 to the exit and back has no lights, just onto 459, get off, get back on, etc., so I think it could be done, but I'm not local!

I've lost my place. Is there a recording where the officer says Exit 1 or was that a transcript? Just say "Yes, there is a recording" and I'll go search for it. Or that it was a transcript. I can easily see someone ham handing 1 for 11 or even 10, and I can see using the word One referring to an exit and not meaning Exit 1. I'd just like to clarify it for myself. TIA.
Yes, there is a recording.

Carlee Russell - Car Stops For 3 Minutes - Missing 1:46 seconds
Investigators are still working to figure out how and why an Alabama woman went missing for two days before reappearing on her parents’ doorstep Saturday night. Carlethia “Carlee” Nichole Russell disappeared after calling 911 last Thursday night, telling a dispatcher that she stopped along I-459 on her way home from work after seeing a toddler walking by himself in a diaper along the highway. - People.com

ETA: In the video purchased by GH, it now appears possible that after CR was stopped for 3 minutes (off camera), another party could have moved CR's vehicle forward to the location where police found it stopped and running.

I am really torn about what I think happened. I will say that I do not believe that there was a child abduction. That is not to say that CR didn't believe that she saw a child on the side of the road, but I do not think that an abducted child was actually on I-459.

I get a sense that this falls somewhere in between being forcefully abducted and leaving on her own accord. Maybe she was held against her will? Or maybe something took an unexpected turn?? It makes no sense that if you want to unknowingly disappear (even for a bit) that you alert both 9-1-1 and your family of your whereabouts at the exact moment that you want to disappear. It is all so strange.

I do believe that this was a traumatic experience for CR and her family. I am so thankful that she returned home safely!
That’s what’s weird as well. Why call 911 and your family at the moment you intend to flee? AND give your location! That doesn’t seem at all what someone creating a hoax would do.

Latest on Carlee Russell: Carlee’s job, Woodhouse Spa Birmingham, releases a statement.

this statement does not bode well for carlee imo. they could've said directly what rumors were not true but they just said "some of it is true" yikes

Something that I've wondered since the beginning is, regarding the 911 call the night of the event (Thurs 7/13)- Is it odd that the Carlee did not stay on the line with 911 dispatch until LE arrived? I know often when we read transcripts from 911 calls where the caller is potentially at risk (i.e. not calling to report a crime that has already occurred but rather a crime in progress), dispatch asks for the caller to stay on the line until LE/FD/EMS arrives. Is that only asked by dispatchers when the caller reports they are personally in imminent danger, or is there a possibility that Carlee may have hung up with dispatch before they asked, because she (Carlee) wanted to make her next call?

Another question- was she trying to reach her brother, and his girlfriend answered instead? This may have been answered by family early on but I can't seem to find it now. If so, was her brother someone she called frequently, or especially when she felt fearful or wanted to be on the phone with someone?

Not even really sure what any of the answers could mean to these questions, or if there's any relevance, but it is something that's stuck out to me/nagged me while reading and re-reading the details of the situation.
That's an interesting question about the brother. I would have thought that she'd have called her boyfriend, but maybe he was working or unavailable or lives further away??

I hope I've linked this story from thread 1 correctly. It is most likely nothing, as it hasn't been mentioned again, but I find myself wondering what business she had with the police in Harpersville. According to a map search it is 40 minutes away from Hoover.

She did not have business with the police in Harpersville. Per their statement she was taking care of some business in town (didn't say what) and they had an interaction with her. That's all.

You're not confused but spot on! ;) Again, not saying she is lying but your post is exactly what I've felt... it's common sense. I hope that she gets assistance with whatever is going on in her life. I anticipate something will be revealed about this in a day or two. Maybe not... MOO
Maybe I've missed it, but I haven't heard or read an actual quote from Carlee. It's all second hand info. ;)

Has there been a sketch of the abductor yet? moo

This says a lot but at the same time I think of the Portland SK, Delphi Indiana, and Moscow 4 and how the police said nobody was in danger at this time blah blah which is categorically untrue. So who knows.
Reposting (if its been posted already) for those that have not seen this.

In an exclusive sit down with @NBCNews, the parents of 25-year-old Carlee Russell, Alabama woman who had been missing for two days, are speaking out. @PriscillaWT shares the details.

"Our family needs privacy in this time" -> *appearing on the Today show* "HOPEFULLY police are looking for the abductor..."

I am so confused about Carlee and her family and her family's behaviors during all this.
I 100% was leaning toward foul play in the beginning but now I'm like 10% on that.

MOO

That's behind a paywall. Can you confirm her interaction with the police in Harpersville?
