Just another stellar example of the Lauderdale County jail!

Sheriff MO and Deputy RON...

Put them together and you get exactly why this is such a train wreck.

He's no Sheriff Grady Judd. Lauderdale County Sheriff's press conferences do not inspire confidence. At lot of "we have no idea" "we're at a loss". He talks about VW like she's just too dang smart for them. At least it's his last year in office as Lauderdale County Sheriff'. Unfortunate for him that he's going to go out under this cloud, regardless of how it ends.

Couple random thoughts -- maybe she wasn't being so magnanimous, escorting her exhusband at his endstage. Might she have helped herself to his identity, passport, banking, etc? Something she could doctor to aide in their escape....

I think the flashy car was intentional. To get everyone looking for an orange car.

I think abandoning it in the roadway, also intentional. She knew it would be towed immediately and I think she banked on it sitting ignored in an impund lot while LE searched for orange cars on the road.

I think they purposefully disabled it, to make it seem like it broke down. Prior to that, they may have already acquired the next car, driving in tandem to where they abandoned the orange one.

Will be curious to see if she scheduled delivery of a card/gift/flowers to her mother for Mother's Day.

Fuel stops seem too risky to me. How ever much gas they could stow in their real getaway car, that's how far away I think they are.

These are good points. VW and CW had two years to plan this escape. LE should search all her vehicle purchases in the last two years. She could’ve purchased a getaway car a long time ago and then got the idea to get a second decoy car more recently. VW knew LE would put out a BOLO on the orange car, which would let the other car purchased earlier fly under the radar for a while.
And it didn’t even have to be from a dealer. She could have purchased something from Facebook marketplace or something a few months ago. The only problem would have been storing it to where nobody knew she had it.

This says she had been talking about the beach and retirement for 3-4 months.

That would line up then in my opinion. Started some weird relationship with CW in 2020 and he intended to escape and take a hostage then. Add in talking to him on the phone, ex husband dies, sells house. Prob started planning a few months out. May have been genuine. May have been a ruse.

It is possible she just told people she wanted to retire to the beach when people asked her about her plans after selling her house. She might actually have no interest in living in Florida .

It would be interesting to hear it she ever travelled to Florida or elsewhere and spent her vacations by the sea.
Good point. If nothing else, we have learned not to take her statements at face value.

Good point on the ease of buying from a local seller. If she bought a vehicle off the side of the road, she could easily flip over the title and sign an alias with an unsuspecting owner. She had a good sized garage at her disposal on the house she sold too.

MOO VW has fake ID's for them both. Contacts that can provide this will be plentiful in the environment she worked. Mr and Mrs Gray /Green/Brown are a possibility - sticking to another colour as not to mess up. They always say stick as close to true as possible don't they.

At least for a long while.
It also comes to mind that he would have needed training and a license to drive a big truck. Also needing someone that would hire him.

I believe in her position, she may have had access to multiple ID’s over the past months. May understand /or know of /counterfit connections to set them up with new identities. She is slick, and has been with crininals for years. She knows all the tricks. But I think they headed to the forest/campsite/cabin like the
‘on the run’ crooks seem to do. Off the grid seems logical.

Then you have the additional oddities that she was so close to retirement, and also went on the run with him.

It is possible she just told people she wanted to retire to the beach when people asked her about her plans after selling her house. She might actually have no interest in living in Florida .
I know we've all been referencing these issues since the beginning, but now I'm thinking these were possibly false flags, meant to lead astray.

She did in fact put in for her retirement, but I think now it's not that she was retiring and then did this unbelievable, stunning thing which completely annihilated an enjoyable retirement. I think she was going to do this unbelievable thing and THEREFORE put in for her retirement, so she could hightail it out of there. Cart before the horse kind of thing.

As to the beaches, well I love a beach and everyone who knows me knows that. If I were going to abscond with a murderer, though, I would not leave clues as to where I'd dreamily like to spend my future. I would start talking about how much I would love to spend retirement in a certain environment and then go somewhere completely different.

She certainly seems to have been planning this for quite awhile. She's much craftier than I thought when we first heard the news. Not smart, because it won't end well, but certainly tried to get her ducks in a row.

And since she was reported to have withdrawn $90K from various banks, PLUS the $95K from the house, they can hide out for a long, long time.

ETA: I'm confused about whether Vicky was just still amicable with her ex-husband or actually still lived with him. I've read both.
I'd first thought she divorced him due to drugs. Maybe, though, IF she still lived with him, she divorced him just to separate their assets. Drug users run through all the money and she could've lost her house car, etc. if they were still legally married. Just speculating.

Card fuel stops are easy peasy, but the catch is that she would have to have a card nobody knows she has and thus not watching. Definitely possible. She could have even gotten a brand new card under an alias specifically for this trip. Nobody would have any idea to track it. Just swipe and go. Easy for drive thru food too.

Or lots of those prepaid credit cards you can load up at purchase.

That’s a good idea to be watching for VW to possibly send a message to her mom on Mother’s Day. One would think she’d forgo that for fear of being traced, but it would show something about her mentality if she did.
Her poor mother. If Vicky uses a burner phone to call her, could it still be traced?

If cop pensions in Alabama are the same as LE pensions elsewhere, by retiring when she did with a clean record up to retirement, she may well have locked in her retirement for life--even if she ends up in prison.
I recall the Chicago cop Jon Burge who eventually was convicted of torturing innocent perps into false confessions--often in brutal ways, including guns to the head and electric shocks to genitals, never missed a single one of his $4,000 a month pension checks, even during his 5 years in prison. Collected his pension until he died.

EXACTLY. If she told her Mom she’d like to retire to a Florida beach, that had to be to throw her off the trail, and then head for Canada or Alaska.

Excellent question. Someone here prob knows better than me, but I suspect if Pat Davis reported it (or if LE is monitoring PD’s phone), they may have a way of tracing the number that called and seeing what towers it pinged off of.

First, I wonder if Vicky will try to contact her mother on Mother's Day just to let her know she's ok. LE will be all over that.
Second, on the abandoned orange Ford - it had no tags - no license plates. Does that mean it was driven 2 hours without plates? Or is the theory that CW and VW pulled the plates off in the middle of the road?
Third, I think the abandoned Ford was just a ruse to throw off LE. I cannot imagine a scenario where they left that car there. Did that get an Uber? No, that would leave a witness and a digital footprint. Did they steal or carjack a vehicle? I think that would have been reported by now. Did they hail a taxi? No, this was not NYC. Did they walk 3 miles to a bus stop? No - they had firearms, $90k cash, clothes and presumably food and water. Surely somebody would have noticed a 6'9" guy walking down that road carrying those supplies. Whoever dumped that car was probably gone in 10 seconds. As somebody suggested Friday night (can't find the post), I think they gave somebody some cash and said "find a friend with a car, cross the border to TN and dump this car in the middle of the road. Put on a little spray paint so it looks like we tried to disguise it. And keep your mouth shut or I'll come back for you". As the orange Ford headed north, CW and VW probably headed south. Head fake.

I agree. If we sit here and try to analyze the logic behind leaving the car where it was left or the spray paint, we can go around in circles. However, it just doesn’t seem like it was done in a last ditch effort. There would have had to be more evidence around. People in the area saw the car, tow truck, etc but never reported seeing the two of them. If it was a last minute thing, how could they get out of the situation without any detection? As you said, the Ford had to have had some supplies, etc in it if that was to be their only vehicle and it didn’t work out. How did they transport the supplies? The spray paint cans.. where are they? Seems more intentional than not. And it’s possible that they or the supplies were never in that vehicle to begin with but another one that was the real getaway car.

Many people were puzzled by the retirement thing and her throwing everything away and I was at first admittedly. I am surprised at the throwing away her reputation and financial security but I find it strange you can request retirement one week and then have it set up and all the admin signed off to take effect for a certain date the following week. I'd have thought you'd have to request this months in advance for it all to happen with payroll and national insurance or whatever the US equivalent is, and the pension service and also for your replacement to be appointed etc.

Anyhoo, she was obviously gambling and praying that admin, wise it, was done in time which is wasn't. If she had have retired that day she'd no longer have had access to get CW out of there as would have had to hand in her fire arms, keys and passes.

Just musing. IMO MOO

Yeah. I’m leaving the spray paint alone for a while. Unless we find out more, we’re just throwing guesses at the wall.
